Obama Administration Signs on to Israeli Nuclear Disarmament

Because hitting our friends is easier – and safer – than confronting our enemies:

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council said they support a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East, according to a unanimous statement circulated during a conference aimed at strengthening nonproliferation.

Without mentioning Israel by name, the group voiced support for the “full implementation” of a 1995 resolution intended to free the Middle East from nuclear arms. “We are committed to a full implemented of the 1995 NPT resolution on the Middle East and we support all ongoing efforts to this end,” the statement read. “We are ready to consider all relevant proposals in the course of the Review Conference in order to come to an agreed decision aimed at taking concrete steps in this direction.”

Neville Chamberlain had this problem, too. When confronted with the choice of either restraining an insane dictator or helping the dictator out, the decision always came out in a “help the dictator” manner. Fighting evil is hard and risky – conniving at it is easy and bears no apparent risk.

But as Churchill warned Chamberlain and would warn Obama, if he could, this is just feeding the crocodile and hoping he eats you last. If we press Israeli nuclear disarmament as part of a move to convince Iran to not build nukes, all we’ll do is lend legitimacy to Iran’s government, demoralize the Israelis, encourage the Islamo-fascists and allow time for Iran’s nuclear program to bear fruit.

Nuclear weapons are the only way Israel can assure itself of survival. It is because the Moslem world knows that an all-out attack on Israel is suicidal that we haven’t had a major Moslem effort to wipe Israel out since 1973. Without those weapons, then it would become just a matter of attrition and Israel would eventually be crushed – the Moslem world could afford to exchange 10 lives for 1, they so vastly outnumber the Israelis. Nuclear weapons redress the balance.

We don’t need a nuclear-free Middle East – in fact, there would be a million nuclear weapons in the Middle East with no risk at all if the Moslem world becomes free and under democratic governance. Weapons are never the problem – who has them, is. Israelis holding nuclear weapons is a good thing because they are free people – Iranian mullahs holding them is a bad thing because they are insane tyrants.

Obama and Co can’t wrap their minds around this – mostly because liberals have no understanding of the way things work. Israel will find itself under increasing pressure from the United States while our failure to act decisively increasingly risks war between Israel and Iran. Its a bad situation, and we’re making it worse.

Another One Bites the Dust

Obey out:

Bone-tired and facing a tough political landscape at home, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey announced Wednesday that he won’t seek reelection, ending a 41-year House career stamped by his unique talent and tempestuousness.

Rarely does a committee chairman of such power just walk away, and Obey’s decision is a blow to Democrats and marks the passing of one of the last major leaders of the 1970’s reforms that reshaped the modern House.

With poll numbers consistently bad; with the economy still rocky; with financial turmoil pointing to another possible crash; with Democrat primary turnout in the dumpster, the writing is on the wall.

How will it all come out in the end? Still unknown – lots of time between now and November. But it is no longer in the Democrats hands – they really can’t shape events and only luck will prevent a wipe out in November.

Taliban Link to Times Square Bomber Grows

Less and less like a random event:

U.S. and Pakistani investigators are giving increased credence to links between Times Square bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad and the Pakistan Taliban, with one senior Pakistani official saying Mr. Shahzad received instruction from the Islamist group’s suicide-bomb trainer.

If the links are verified, it would mark a stark shift in how the Pakistan Taliban—an affiliate of the Taliban in Afghanistan—and related jihadist groups in Pakistan pursue their goals. Until now, they have focused on attacks within Pakistan and in India, not the U.S.

Just showing, once again, that the war is between the United States and Islamo-fascism. They’ll attack others, but their ultimate goal is always to attack us. They don’t call us the “Great Satan” just for the heck of it. They really believe that – and believe that our destruction is a good thing.

As I’ve said, we’ve been lucky during Obama’s tenure – and our luck will not hold forever. We must not only strengthen our defensive measures, but must also toss aside all this politically correct nonsense (“man-caused disasters”, eg) as well as all efforts to “reach out” to people who see us as subhuman scum.

It isn’t a matter of peace or total war – its a matter of recognizing who we fight and why, and acting accordingly. This is not the time for liberal illusions – those illusions will be paid for in human blood, unless we drop them.

Yet More Bankruptcy Via Liberalism

This time from Oakland, CA:

Oakland voters will likely be asked in November to approve higher taxes to halve a $42 million deficit, but even if they agree, the city will face an even deeper crisis within months.

Ballooning pension costs will push the city’s projected deficit to $58.7 million by July 2011.

The liberals who run Oakland have just spent and spent and spent the city in to oblivion. Every time the public sector unions made another pay and/or benefit demand, the city caved in. Every time some city politician got a bug in his ear and wanted some new spending, it was agree to.

The city has a Commission on Aging, a Children’s Fairyland Board, a Community Action Partnership Administrating Board, a Cultural Affairs Commission, an Inclusionary Housing Blue Ribbon Commission, a Paramount Theater of the Arts Board, a Department of Information Technology…and on and on.

A completely ruined city, run by liberals in to the ground.

There hasn’t been a Republican mayor of Oakland since 1966.

White House Increasingly Worried About Oil Spill Fallout

From Politico:

The ferocious oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening President Barack Obama’s reputation for competence, just as surely as it endangers the Gulf ecosystem.

So White House aides are escalating their efforts to reassure Congress and the public in the face of a slow-motion catastrophe, even though it’s not clear they can bring it under control anytime soon.

“There is no good answer to this,” one senior administration official said. “There is no readily apparent solution besides one that could take three months. … If it doesn’t show the impotence of the government, it shows the limits of the government.”

Which is fair enough as far as it goes – but it rings hollow from the people who leaped all over President Bush for things he had no control over in the Katrina disaster. Now hoist upon their own petard, they are in a funk as to what to do about it.

It’d be nice to think that the lesson would sink in and in future Democrats would be more, well, decent and patriotic about things, but that won’t happen – when there’s a GOPer in the White House, they’ll fall right back in to their old, nauseating tricks.

Doing the right thing is, at times, difficult – but in the long run, it makes life a heck of a lot easier.

Preacher Arrested for Preaching Christian Morality

Yet another sad tale from the birthplace and grave of modern liberties:

In a case which has disturbed religious freedom advocates, a preacher in the English town of Workington was reportedly arrested for describing homosexual conduct as a sin after a public sermon. A Baptist from Workington, the 42-year-old Dale McAlpine was preaching in the town on April 20. He said he never spoke about homosexuality during his public sermon, which was delivered from the top of a stepladder, the Telegraph reports.

McAlpine said that he later quietly listed homosexual practice among a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians during a debate with a woman passerby.

The lady then snitched to a “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender liaison officer”, who then seems to have set up McAlpine to be arrested after a later sermon. This is fascism, plain and simple.

It is also what the left wants to bring to the United States – and our nation, make no mistake about it, is an increasingly small island of liberty in a world gone mad with politically correct, State control of speech. Our liberals believe that the world will be better if homosexuality is held to be morally acceptable – it follows from this, in typically fascist fashion, that those who hold otherwise must be silenced.

Part of what we’re doing here in 2010 is fighting back against this tidal wave of tyranny. We’re making our stand and insisting that we Americans, at least, are strong enough to stand people saying things which cause offense. And our liberals will fight us tooth and nail on this.

Times Square Bomber: Anti-Bush, Anti-War

So much for the liberal attempts to spin him as TEA Party or other conservative:

…Shahzad’s behavior sometimes seemed odd to his neighbors, and he surprised a real estate broker he hardly knew with his outspokenness about President George W. Bush and the Iraq war.

“He mentioned that he didn’t like Bush policies in Iraq,” said Igor Djuric, who represented Shahzad in 2004 when he was buying a home.

Djuric said he couldn’t remember the exact words Shahzad used about Bush but “something to the effect of he doesn’t know what he’s doing and it’s the wrong thing that he’s doing.”

“I don’t know if he mentioned 9/11,” Djuric said, “but something like that, Iraq has nothing to do with anything.”

As Dan Riehl points out, its surprising that he wasn’t an MSNBC host – he certainly has the talking points down pat.

For those of us in the real world (ie, non-liberals), this comes as no surprise. Who else would want to bomb Times Square? Its got to be some Islamist/anti-American sort of person. To even think it could be someone else is to ignore reality – there’s that one in a million shot such a person could be motivated by other issues, but if there’s a car bomb found, the hunt should be immediately for whomever has lately been rather Islamist and/or anti-war.

We’ve been extraordinarily lucky on Obama’s watch – and even with this luck, we’ve still had people killed at Ft Hood. Our luck cannot hold forever – we cannot expect that the next car bomb will also be found in the nick of time. Until Obama and Administration start to get serious and essentially duplicate Bush’s efforts, we’re going to be increasingly at risk of terrorist attacks.

Cantor Hits Obama Failures

Making the case against the failed policies of Obama:

A top US Republican lawmaker on Tuesday made a sweeping election-year attack on President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, blasting a landmark nuclear cuts treaty with Russia and efforts to engage Iran.

With six months before November mid-term elections, Representative Eric Cantor urged US voters to back Republicans at “a pivotal time for America to restore its credibility by pursuing peace through strength.”

“That’s why conservatives must win in 2010. And when we retake Congress we will stand with defense-minded Democrats to stop the hemorrhaging of America’s defenses,” said Cantor, the number two House of Representatives Republican.

Engaging Iran has proven a dismal failure. The arms agreement with Russia is a pointless throwback to Cold War times. In all of his actions, President Obama seems to have a desire to pick up with Carter left off – with a weaker America and our enemies encouraged.

While we cannot change foreign policy until we change Presidents, a Republican Congress can act a brake upon Administration policies. We can force them to keep America a bit stronger and make it less likely that they’ll construct asinine agreements with our enemies. America is now under as much a threat as we were in 1980 – we’ve undone 30 years of bi-partisan foreign and defense policy which had restored America to its pre-eminent position.

We can restore America, and the first step is to be taken on November 2nd.

Out and About on a Tuesday Morning

What do I want regarding immigration? Here ya go – pretty sure everyone on both sides will find things to object to. I flatter myself that if this is the case, it means I’ve got it right.

A Pakistani connection to the Times Square bomber? Wouldn’t surprise me.

College professors outsourcing their grading to India. No, I’m not kidding.

The 9/12 March on Washington: will you be there?

Brits bribing teen aged girls to get Gadasil vaccinations. Its highly risky. It is, of course, a very touchy issue. Naturally, the Brit government doesn’t get parental permission for doing it.

Brit sniper kills two Taliban at a 1.5 mile distance. Incredible shooting.

How to become a famous blogger. I’m still stuck on Step One.

What Media Bias? Part 172

An admission:

It took a while, but MSNBC President Phil Griffin has finally admitted and embraced his cable network’s hard-left slant. He told the Chicago Tribune that he will try to carve out a niche on the left, hoping some day to rival the Fox News Channel’s record-setting ratings.

Not so long ago, Griffin insisted that MSNBC was not “tied to ideology” — unlike Fox, which simply could not be trusted, he claimed. Griffin even knocked FNC President Roger Ailes’s business model, criticizing him for “creat[ing] an ideological channel… I give them total credit. I tip my hat to them. They scored. But it was ideological and opportunistic. It was a business plan.”

Griffin has apparently abandoned his disdain for that business plan…

It is kinda cool for Griffin to come clean – but a bit late in the game. MSNBC has been in the tank for the left for years now.

There is nothing wrong with media bias. We here at Blogs for Victory as biased – bias is ok as long as your clear about it. I’d probably watch MSNBC from time to time if they really come clean on air with their bias (nice for Griffin to say so, but I want the on-air talent to drop the pretense). Its nice to see what the other side is saying (though, generally, when I want some liberal red meat I’m heading over to The Nation, or to read anything remotely connected to Alexander Cockburn – if you’re going to be a pinko, then be a pinko!).

What grates on us is the stupid lie that the MSM is not biased. Their pious and stupidly false claim of impartiality is what causes all the grief. Someone who will just come out and say, “I’m a liberal; I believe in a certain world view; I’m going to do my best to be fair, but its my desire to see this worldview advance, and that is what I’m about” will be applauded. Any MSMer who does that will become very popular – and popular on the right as well as on the left.

We’ll see how long the phony front holds up – this could be the opening of a flood gate of liberal honesty on the matter, and then I can retire “What Media Bias?”.
