If Only Liberals Would Show the Courage of Their Convictions…

…and off themselves voluntarily when they make such statements:

Nina Fedoroff told the BBC One Planet programme that humans had exceeded the Earth’s “limits of sustainability”.

Dr Fedoroff has been the science and technology advisor to the US secretary of state since 2007, initially working with Condoleezza Rice.

Under the new Obama administration, she now advises Hillary Clinton.

“We need to continue to decrease the growth rate of the global population; the planet can’t support many more people,” Dr Fedoroff said, stressing the need for humans to become much better at managing “wild lands”, and in particular water supplies.

Pressed on whether she thought the world population was simply too high, Dr Fedoroff replied: “There are probably already too many people on the planet.”

Dr. Fedoroff, if there are too many people on the planet then it is your bound duty to do yourself in – seriously: don’t you realize that your continued breathing is killing Mother Earth? Do it, and do it now – save the planet!

Or is it that you’re just talking a bunch of sh** and what you really want is control?

Why Do They Bother?

The Episcopal Divinity School has hired a priestess who thinks abortion is a blessing to run the place:

The announcement on Monday, March 30 that The Rev. Dr. Katherine Ragsdale was appointed as the sixth and newest president of Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) in Cambridge, MA, has orthodox and pro-life Episcopalians shaking their heads.

Ragsdale, who is an outspoken advocate of abortion and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender) rights, was the unanimous choice of the Board of Trustees and will begin her duties on July 1, 2009.

In addition to the press release and public letter concerning the appointment, the EDS website also has a link to Rev. Ragsdale’s sermon blog. There, the first sermon is entitled, “Our Work is Not Done.” The content has been cited and circulated on a large number of pro-life and conservative Christian blogs. An excerpt follows:

“When a woman wants a child but can’t afford one because she hasn’t the education necessary for a sustainable job, or access to health care, or day care, or adequate food, it is the abysmal priorities of our nation, the lack of social supports, the absence of justice that are the tragedies; the abortion is a blessing.

“And when a woman becomes pregnant within a loving, supportive, respectful relationship; has every option open to her; decides she does not wish to bear a child; and has access to a safe, affordable abortion – there is not a tragedy in sight — only blessing. The ability to enjoy God’s good gift of sexuality without compromising one’s education, life’s work, or ability to put to use God’s gifts and call is simply blessing.

Does anyone want to call this woman Christian? Does anyone want to assert that what she’ll teach is Christianity? I mean, come on – this isn’t a difference of degree, this is positively anti-Christian. The religious left has become a self-parody. If you wrote this out for Saturday Night Live it would be rejected as too implausible.

Perhaps it is just the madness of liberalism being writ large, so that no one may mistake it anymore? The Enemy has spent time and effort putting wolves in sheeps clothing, but there is always that fact of God being sovereign and thus able to confound even the most subtle plans for undoing Christianity. Tempting a priest or pastor to insert a bit of moral relativism or materialism into a sermon is insidious – putting a pagan in charge of a supposedly Christian school is ludicrous. No one but the most purblind liberal will be fooled by this.

Close up shop, Episcopalians. Those of you who are Christian will just have to become Evangelicals or Catholics because there’s no point in belonging to an anti-Church.

Wednesday Morning Open Thread

Just getting in too late and ending up too tired to write as much as I used to. Dad is, of course, a large reason for this. Please keep him – and us – in your prayers. He’s still hanging in there – mind sharp as a tack, body falling apart. God will take him when it pleases Him to do so, meanwhile we just do the best we can.

Be that as it may, there is much to discuss, so have at it.

$12,800,000,000,000.00

That is how much Obama and Co have spent or pledged:

The U.S. government and the Federal Reserve have spent, lent or committed $12.8 trillion, an amount that approaches the value of everything produced in the country last year, to stem the longest recession since the 1930s.

New pledges from the Fed, the Treasury Department and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. include $1 trillion for the Public-Private Investment Program, designed to help investors buy distressed loans and other assets from U.S. banks. The money works out to $42,105 for every man, woman and child in the U.S. and 14 times the $899.8 billion of currency in circulation. The nation’s gross domestic product was $14.2 trillion in 2008.

What is really wrong with this picture is that we don’t have that kind of money to spend – and we don’t have the ability to borrow that kind of money. This means we’re either going to print ourselves into hyper-inflation, or we going to be cooking the books in a manner which will make Enron look honest by comparison. Whomever takes over from Obama – be it in 2013 or 2017 – is likely to find that we’re awash in a sea of bogus money. Counterfeiters are actually ending up more honest than the government – at least the counterfeit money exists: Obamunisms dollars will be as mythical as Obama’s pledge for open and honest government.

Governor Sebelius to be Denied Communion in DC, Too

And this is, perhaps, a step towards holding such famed and allegedly Catholic politicians as Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry to account:

According to the Washington Times, Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington plans to maintain the pastoral request Kathleen Sebelius’ bishop made in 2007 asking her not to receive Communion.

Governor of Kansas Kathleen Sebelius is looking to move to Washington D.C. to become the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Sebelius is President Obama’s second nominee to the post after Tom Daschle withdrew from consideration after it was revealed he failed to pay $140,000 in taxes.

Gov. Sebelius has both political and religious controversy surrounding her, with her local bishop, Archbishop Joseph Naumann asking her to refrain from Holy Communion for her “30-year history of advocating and acting in support of legalized abortion.” The archbishop told CNA that he came to the point of asking the governor to refrain from Communion after speaking with her over a two-year period at various levels.

Upon hearing that she was nominated by President Obama, Archbishop Naumann wrote in his weekly column in The Leaven that “her appointment to HHS is particularly troubling.”

If Sebelius’ nomination as HHS Secretary is accepted and she moves to Washington D.C., she will face the same request to not receive Communion.

Believe what you want to believe – but if you are to go into your public life and claim the mantle of “Catholic”, then there are some requirements one will be held to. For far too long, in my view, Catholics who subscribe to a decidedly anti-Catholic world view and/or are unwilling to fight for Catholic truth have been given a pass by the Church, thus leading to confusion among the faithful as to what the Church teaches on the crucial issues of the day. Of course, I’m a lot more impatient than I should be, and the Church – by taking its time – might just be acting in a more Christian manner than I’m currently capable of achieving. Be that as it may, I welcome this move.

In an age of lies, in a time of great moral confusion, what is needed is truth and clarity. Better for there to be a smaller Church more strictly faithful to Truth than a larger Church not adhering to any truth at all. Once upon a time, the Church was a dozen men plus a few others…but those dozen men were strong in their faith and insistent upon speaking genuine truth. And so the dozen became millions. And so it will again, if it comes to that, provided we hold firm to Truth.

New York Special Election

“Too close to call” doesn’t even come close:

With just a handful of votes separating them, the candidates in a New York congressional race that focused on President Barack Obama’s economic policies say they know the race isn’t over.

With all 610 voting precincts in the 20th Congressional District reporting, Democrat Scott Murphy leads Republican Jim Tedisco by just 65 votes out of more than 154,000 cast. The two are vying to replace Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

There are more than 10,000 absentee ballots still to be counted.

Tedisco says he thinks he’ll eventually have a “tremendous victory.” Murphy says his campaign, win or lose, proved the naysayers in Washington wrong.

Republicans have filed a lawsuit requiring all paper ballots be impounded.

That last bit is because we are becoming wise to Democratic methods of manufacturing votes. With 10,000 votes to be counted and Republicans usually doing well among absentee voters, the likely outcome of a fair count is a GOP victory…unless Democrats “find” votes like they did in Washington in 2004 and Minnesota in 2008. So, the GOP is just making certain that the only votes counted are those which were actually cast.

That aside, it is a tremendous thing even to be in a de-facto tie at the moment – Obama carried the district with 61% of the vote in November which means that either Obama voters are dispirited, or a lot of them switched to voting GOP. In either case, no Democrat can be pleased with the outcome, even if Murphy does squeeze out a win.

Welcome to the Nanny State

War, Terrorism, Economic Collapse: Which Tops the SecState's "To Do" List?

None of them:

Speaking at Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s national conference in Houston this past Friday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced that promoting “reproductive rights” –including abortion- will be at the top of the government’s international agenda.

After being honored by Planned Parenthood with the Margaret Sanger award for her “work on behalf of women’s health and reproductive rights,” the Secretary of State said “I have to tell you that it was a great privilege when I was told that I would receive this award. I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision.”

Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was openly sympathetic with to Nazi Germany’s eugenic practices and was strongly committed to preventing blacks, Hispanics and poor people from reproducing.

I guess we can’t really blame Hillary too much here – she doesn’t seem to have much knowledge of anything that happened prior to, oh, last week or so…I mean, she didn’t know who painted the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe, so its no surprise that she didn’t know that Sanger was a racist eugenicist who founded Planned Parenthood with the specific purpose of aborting black babies and other “inferiors” in mind. Heck, I doubt that even one in hundred random feminists has a clear idea of what Planned Parenthood is really about…they just get told its about “choice” and “reproductive rights”, and that sounds so nifty peachy keen…just don’t turn that rock over and notice that black babies are far more likely to be aborted than white babies and, of course, such things as PP being used as means for child rapists to dispose of the strongest evidence against them.

There is an incredible creepiness about the pro-abortion movement…such a complete disconnect from reality. There is no way to meet such people – I mean, I could tell Hillary till I’m blue in the face that her award is named after a frightful racist and it just wouldn’t register. Only God can change such hearts – all we can do is try to thwart their plans.

Fighting Against the Race-Baiters

A task we must all turn ourselves to:

Angie Harmon is not afraid to come out and say she doesn’t like how President Obama is handling the job — but she’s sick of having to defend herself from being deemed a racist.

“Here’s my problem with this, I’m just going to come out and say it. If I have anything to say against Obama it’s not because I’m a racist, it’s because I don’t like what he’s doing as President and anybody should be able to feel that way, but what I find now is that if you say anything against him you’re called a racist,” Harmon told Tarts at Thursday’s Los Angeles launch of the new eyelash-growing formula, Latisse. “But it has nothing to do with it, I don’t care what color he is. I’m just not crazy about what he’s doing and I heard all about this, and he’s gonna do that and change and change, so okay … I’m still dressing for a recession over here buddy and we’ve got unemployment at an all-time high and that was his number one thing and that’s the thing I really don’t appreciate. If I’m going to disagree with my President, that doesn’t make me a racist. If I was to disagree with W, that doesn’t make me racist. It has nothing to do with it, it is ridiculous.”

If Obama’s popularity takes a serious dip we can expect the MSM to start running a series of stories asserting that the latent racism of America is coming to the fore against Obama – while the MSMers are getting annoyed with Obama, the plain fact of the matter is that they are completely invested in him. If he winds up anything other than a tremendously popular, successful and thumpingly re-elected President, the MSM will feel that they let their side down. So, they will circle the wagons when it becomes necessary.

What we must do is stand up against this – no pussy footing around about it; when a liberal twit accuses a conservative of racism, the response must be swift and overwhelming condemnation of the liberal. Conservatives have to circle the wagon because the liberals want to separate us and defeat us one by one – they’ll hope to tag us, successively, as racists for opposing Obama in the hope that each one of us will be renounced by the larger conservative movement, thus fracturing the opposition. We can’t play that game – none of us are racists; heck, none of us has a racist bone in his or her body. The concept that conservatives are racists is a figment of liberal imagination – if there ever was any credibility to the idea it was more than half century ago; pre-Goldwater times, and even then it is doubtful that you can find people of definitive conservative views who would actually try to claim that some person was less than another on account of skin color. Whatever else we conservatives are, we’re not people who look at others based on the group they belong to – that is a liberal thing.

We’ve allowed ourselves for far too long to be tarred with the brush of racism – and its time we started to fight back, day in and day out, until this poisonous myth is laid to rest.
