GOP Budget Strategy: Cut, Cap and Balance

From Pajamas Media:

…Right now all the action is in the U.S. House of Representatives, where The Hill newspaper recently reported that a majority of the House Republican Conference sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) “laying out conditions to be met before a higher debt ceiling is agreed to.”

The letter “called for discretionary and mandatory spending cuts to halve the budget deficit next year, spending caps to hold Washington’s spending to 18 percent of gross domestic product, and passage of a balanced-budget amendment.”

The strategy, which is known by its nickname “Cut, Cap, and Balance,” is expected to dominate the discussion surrounding the debt ceiling as events move forward.

Conservatives have embraced the plan, which is expected to be put forward in the Senate by the likes of South Carolina’s Jim DeMint and freshman Utah Senator Mike Lee. They especially like the part about securing passage of a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but only if it includes a supermajority requirement to raise taxes and strict spending limitations pegged to U.S. GDP…

Doing all that would be the budgetary silver bullet – it would solve the fiscal problem, make it impossible for us to ever default and allow the United States, over time, to outgrow Big Government, entirely. There still would be a lot of difficulty in the nitty-gritty of what to cut and by how much, but the overall plan exactly matches the need.

The big risk, as usual, is in the GOP leadership – right now, there are efforts being made to spook the leadership in to really believing that a failure to raise the debt ceiling will cause problems. And, in fact, if the economy tanks – as I fully expect it to – then failure to raise the debt ceiling will be blamed by the Democrats for the collapse. The patent absurdity of such an assertion won’t matter – all that will matter is how much the Democrats can frighten the GOP leadership with the assertion.

By holding firm we can win it all. By caving, we’d lose our best chance in a generation. Let’s hope for a bit of back bone in the GOP leadership.

Poll: 75% Support Photo ID for Voting

From Rasmussen:

…A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 75% of Likely U.S. Voters believe voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote. Just 18% disagree and oppose such a requirement…

This is yet another winning issue for us – and an issue which will cut right at the heart of Democrat party power: curbing voter fraud will cost the Democrats a lot of elections. Essentially, if a Democrat wins by 1% or less, you can rely on it that voter fraud played a role in the Democrat victory. Cheating is endemic in the Democrat party – and from what I can see, always has been.

Right now with Eric Holder’s “Justice” Department, cheating is being given a free pass – Holder simply will not enforce laws against voter fraud and will, indeed, facilitate it as much as possible (such as in trying to bar States from requiring voter ID…thus allowing Democrats to stuff the ballot boxes with illegal votes). But we simply cannot allow this to continue. Voting is the heart and soul of American governance. It is how we decide who should be in charge – and if there ever comes a time when the people are convinced that their our voting is worthless because of fraud, that is the end of democratic governance in the United States.

And, so, we should run on this. We should make it an issue in the 2012 campaign – using as our bedrock the Black Panther voter intimidation from 2008, Holder’s failure to prosecute and the host of voter fraud examples from 2010 we can take our case to the people. Our argument should be that voting should be as secure as possible and that it is no great burden for an honest man or woman to provide reasonable proof of eligibility to vote. This poll indicates that the vast majority agree with us – and we can either steamroller the Democrats in to agreeing, or hammer them endlessly as the party of electoral fraud.

The Liberal View: Why Don't We All Become Vile?

From the Daily Beast:

…All of that got Haag thinking: Should we stop calling infidelity a problem, and think of it as the future? “Marital nonmonogamy may be to the 21st century what premarital sex was to the 20th,” she writes—”a behavior that shifts gradually from proscribed and limited, to tolerated and increasingly common.”

She wouldn’t be the first to suggest it: Researchers have long wondered whether monogamy is outdated. (Helen Fisher, who studies the nature of love, believes humans aren’t meant to be together forever—but in short-term, monogamous relationships of three or four years.)…

Yeah, that’s the ticket – don’t try. Don’t make an effort. If its easier to wallow in a sewer than to stay clean, then by all means: wallow away.

There is a reason why Jesus instructed us that to even look at a woman with lust in our hearts is adultery – because to travel even an inch down the road of sin is catastrophic. In a real sense there is no “small sin” – because that first step away from honor can prove decisive in a person’s life. From being a person keeping the marital vows you first become a person who will do a bit of “innocent” flirting on line…before too long, you’re sending pornographic pictures of yourself to women on the other side of the country. In response to the Weiner case we can do one of two things – learn that its best not to even start that sort of thing, or decide that we’d rather live in a world where vows are meaningless.

Ultimately, such disasters as this are a failure to love properly. We are further instructed that the most important commandment is to love God with all our heart and soul. This is not because God needs to be loved like that but because only if we fix our love on the one entity worthy of it will we be able to demonstrate proper love to the people around us. Weiner had a choice – in a split second moment he could have loved God, which would have gotten him immediately back to loving his wife…and the picture would never have been sent. But in that instant he decided to love himself to the exclusion of God and all else…and now his career is ruined. It really works as simply – and as swiftly – as that. And 10,000 times a day men and women make that same choice…and those who choose correctly wouldn’t change places with those who chose wrong for all the money in the world.

This is not to say that once you’ve chosen wrong you can’t later choose correctly. As long as we live, there is that chance for redemption. If the last 100 choices you made were bad, you can pretty much fix the problem by making the right choice, today. Not that the sin will be as if it had never been, but that you will have turned back from sin and towards God…and your cure will have commenced. But all too many among us want none of that – what they want is ease. It is much easier to deal with sin when you no longer consider it a sin…the mental process goes “well, its all just the way I am; and I’m being true to myself…and as long as I’m not doing what Rat Bastard X is doing, I’m a good person”…meanwhile, Rat Bastard X is considering himself to be ok because he’s not doing what Rat Bastard Y just did.

It is, though, better to try to be good. Really it is. I, too, fail. But commanded by God, when I do so I don’t try to justify it: I apologize for it and try to do better next time. And when the next time comes, I some times actually do better. It is just as much a step by step process to become a good person as it is to become a wicked person, you see? And the sooner we all start trying to be good rather than justifying being bad, the better the world will be.

Is Obama Just Plain and Simple Stupid?

I was just flabbergasted to read this from the Daily Telegraph:

President Obama was effusive in his praise for the Special Relationship when he visited London recently, but his administration continues to slap Britain in the face over the highly sensitive Falklands issue. Washington signed on to a “draft declaration on the question of the Malvinas Islands” passed by unanimous consent by the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) at its meeting in San Salvador yesterday, an issue which had been heavily pushed by Argentina. In doing so, the United States sided not only with Buenos Aires, but also with a number of anti-American regimes including Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela and Daniel Ortega’s Nicaragua.

The declaration calls for Argentina and Great Britain to enter into negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falklands, a position which London has long viewed as completely unacceptable…

And it is viewed as unacceptable because Argentina’s claim to the Falklands is absurd. Leaving aside conjecture that some South American Indians may have been there at some point, by the time the first Europeans – who were Dutch – sighted the islands they were uninhabited. Britain and France both established posts on the islands in the mid-18th century, which were later abandoned and the islands briefly came under Spanish rule…only to be abandoned, in turn, by Spain. A bit of back and forth – including a failed Argentine attempt to establish a presence on the islands – in the early 19th century finally wound up with a permanent, British settlement in 1834. From that time to this, with the exception of Argentina’s two month long occupation in 1982, the islands have been British. The people there are British. There is no connection between the islands and Argentina; none, nada, zilch, zip. To say there is an Argentine claim to the Falklands is absurd as saying there is a US claim to Newfoundland – simply because of proximity and at one time or another, an American had been there.

But here comes Barack Obama – with enemies to curry favor from and allies to insult. And we back a stupid and incendiary Argentine demand in conjunction with communist enemies in Venezuela and Nicaragua. Who the heck is in charge here? Does our President have any sense, at all? Is he trying to encourage the Argentines to have another go at it? What gain is there for us in playing up to the most stupid manifestation of Argentinian nationalism imaginable?

We’ve got wars – three or four of them, depending on how you reckon – all around the globe; we’ve got the Chinese getting aggressive; we’ve got Islamism on the march from Cairo to Damascus; we’ve got Iran a couple months away from a nuclear bomb; our economy is faltering; we’re heading for bankruptcy…and Obama figures it is time for us to stick our nose in to South American politics? Time to insult one of our oldest allies? Just how in heck did we wind up with this dimwit in the White House?

2012 cannot get here fast enough…

UPDATE: Here is the explanation – Argentina’s leftist President has been using Obamunism for years (and entirely wrecking the country in the process)…so, this may be just a bit of mutual admiration.

Obamunism! It Takes Longer Than Ever to Get a Job

From ABC:

…The median period of unemployment is now at a historic high; 39.7 weeks according to the May Report. That’s the highest it has ever been in the history of the survey.

A new research report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics dug into this trend to offer new details on how long it takes to make the transition from unemployed to employed and found that 11 percent of job seekers took a year or longer to land a new job. Another off-the-chart reading…

As I’ve said all along, there never really has been a recovery…just some spikes in numbers officially kept and subject to “improvement” by means of printing or borrowing money. In the real economy it has been nothing but a dead loss since 2008.

Unemployment will not come down until we have policies which encourage wealth creation – which means that as long as Obama and his Democrats are in charge, we won’t get anywhere.

Out and About on a Thursday Morning

Las Vegas leads the nation...in to bankruptcy. Hate to say this about my town, but everything here pretty much sucks at the moment.

Pawlenty would sign a ban on Planned Parenthood funding – for me, this should be a litmus test for all GOP candidates in 2012. Whether or not you are pro-choice, the fact of the matter is that PP is a corrupt organization which exemplifies “wasteful government spending”. If you can’t cut PP, then you can’t cut anything.

1913 – the year our current economic problems began.

We are intensifying our military effort in Yemen…what about all that not getting involved in other people’s war stuff, liberals?

When Obama falls below 50% in a CBS poll, you know he’s got some trouble…if Newsweek comes out with such a poll, then you’ll know he’s doomed.

Are some of Syria’s security goons having second thoughts? Or are they just preparing to join the new, Iranian-controlled masters of Syria, if it comes to that?

Over at The American Catholic, a video round up of GOP candidates on the marriage issue.

For its affront to Obama, reality will be declared racist as will anyone who associates with it.

Trapped in the Quicksand of Failed Economics

From Zero Hedge:

…As usual, Rogers saved the best for Bernanke: “Since the first day Mr Benanke went to Washington I knew he was going to be a disaster. He has never been right about anything in the 7 or 8 years he has been there. I hope he doesn’t come back with QE3 but that’s all he knows. The only thing he knows to do is to print money. He doesn’t understand finance, he doesn’t understand currencies, he doesn’t understand economics. He understands printing money. It’s the wrong thing to do but that’s what he’ll do… They’re gonna bring QE back because he will be terrified and Washington will be terrified,” he said. “There’s an election coming in November 2012. Washington’s gonna print more money.”…

As this exactly tallies with my views, it is certainly a work of genius, right?

Seriously, though, there is no indicator that Bernanke has any other trick up his sleeve. There is nothing in his past action which indicates that he will pivot away from quantitative easing and towards a different economic paradigm. Bernanke is not alone in this, but he is the man in charge of the Federal Reserve…he can print us in to oblivion, or think things through and come up with an economic model of hard work and careful savings. But, alas, we will have to go through a pretty steep recession to get rolling on that…and Bernanke is not about to risk that. It would be too dangerous to all of the Ruling Class. Not just that part in DC, but also that part in Wall Street. The “too big to fail banks” will fail – and Bernanke, a bankster’s bankster, cannot contemplate that.

As I’ve been saying for quite some time, our economy based on fiat money and usury has reached a dead end. An inevitable dead end – a dead end any theologian or philosopher worth his salt could have seen coming a mile away. And don’t get me wrong, here – I failed to see it coming, too. I had some inklings over the years that things weren’t right – and I became an advocate of gold currency about 10 or 12 years ago – but I never suspected just how entirely fraudulent our economy had become. You can’t borrow your way to wealth. You can’t print your way to wealth. You can’t live in a world of instant gratification. You can’t allow a substantial portion of your working age population to sit on its collective duff. You can’t outsource the dirty, grimy work which is the bedrock of any rational economy. We were taken in by an economic siren song – but we were willingly taken in. We were happy to be suckered. But now it is time to pay the piper – and the sooner we all recognize this fact the sooner things can be repaired…while the longer we try to put it off (by stimulus and money printing) the worse it will get.

There is no way out of this except through a period of very tough economic times. As I’ve said before, if Obama – and/or Bernanke – would just figure this out, they could be of some real service. But, for such as these, the risks are too high…they, personally, might not survive at the top of the heap, even as they set in place the policies which will lead to our resurgence. For some people who arrive at the top, the worst possible thing is to no longer be on top…and our leadership, right now, is of this sort. We can expect nothing from them…as the ship goes down, all they’ll ever do is re-arrange the deck chairs.

But, no matter: they won’t be in power, forever. The only real question is whether we, the people, will have the courage to select replacement leaders who will tell us the truth and lead us fearlessly through the disaster, even at the cost of their own power and wealth?

Liberals Get Extra Disgusting

From Althouse:

I would have to have been restrained – these kids, these Special Olympics athletes, they aren’t about the fight between the governor and the unions…they are just about hard work, dedication and love. To them, this was their special day…the day to be honored not by Scott Walker, but by the Governor of Wisconsin. I know what these wonderful people are like…because my brother is one of them. And it would have angered me to a white-hot fury had I seen this in person.

There is a time and a place for everything – and when the Special Olympics is being honored by any government official, it is time for everyone else to just shut up and sit the heck down. Trust me on this – this is a promise – if any TEA Party activists were to ever disrupt President Obama while he was honoring the Special Olympics, I would be just as furious. There are some things you just don’t do. And these miserable little shits of the left have just done it…

Holder Protects Voting Rights…for Illegals

From UPI:

…”First, the Obama administration fails to do its job on the border. Then it sues Arizona to prevent us from helping to fight illegal immigration. Then it tries to create a false sense of complacency by arguing that the border is safe, when it isn’t,” Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne said in a statement. “Now it argues that persons should be able to register to vote without providing adequate information enabling verification of citizenship, thus enabling illegal aliens to register to vote. This is contrary to the interests of the people of the United States of America.”…

This is just typical of Holder’s “Justice” Department – club wielding thugs at a voting booth? Perfectly ok. Trying to stop illegal votes from being cast? Don’t you dare! I guess Holder is leaving no stone unturned in order to help Obama’s re-election effort.

More seriously, I want an investigation of Holder’s actions – preferably by a new AG under a new Administration in 2013. I want to find out if any laws have been broken by Holder in the way he’s conducted business…if there is one Obama Administration official I think worthy of a prison cell, it is Holder. This isn’t about policy differences – I think the man, by refusing to enforce the laws justly, must be in violation of one or more statutes…and if investigation shows that his actions aren’t a violation, then we need laws created to ensure that any future AG who runs roughshod over American liberties faces the music.

Obama Promises Bail Out…to Greece!

Proof that the Ruling Class is globally stupid:

President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged European countries and bondholders to prevent a “disastrous” default by Greece and pledged U.S. support to help tackle the country’s debt crisis…

…After a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he stressed the importance of German “leadership” on the issue – a hint that he expects Berlin to help – while expressing sympathy for the political difficulties European Union countries face in helping a struggling member state…

We’ve got our own debt crisis. Chancellor Merkel’s political party is being hammered in local and regional elections over her involvement in previous bail outs. Greece already cannot repay the debt they have. And here comes Barack Obama – his solution? Offer more money we don’t have while urging Merkel to commit political suicide in order to prevent a Greek default. And all of this because the Greek and other “PIIGS” default risks are already causing economic problems, while an actual default will plunge the world in to recession…and thus plunge Obama in to extreme risk of losing next year.

To nutshell it – President Obama is more than willing to shove America further down the road to financial meltdown in order to prevent the Worst Thing: President Obama’s defeat.

How’s that hope and change thing working out for you?
