She's One of Yours, Lefties

Nothing like Cynthia McKinney – whom you lefties out there supported tooth and nail – to add an element of spice to the campaign:

It wouldn’t be an election cycle without Cynthia McKinney’s lunacy, and fortunately she hasn’t shied away from providing it. Here, we watch as the Green Party’s endorsed presidential candidate accuses National Guard soldiers of committing 5,000 murders of prisoners in the wake of Hurricane Katrina…

…If you think that this is the kind of insanity one normally hears from Alex Jones, well … you’d be right. The conspiracy theorists on the Left and the Right tend to embrace each other at a certain point, just south of rationality. For these people, little points like evidence and common sense provide no obstacles at all to paranoia and fantasy.

For instance, let’s skip past the extremely weak sourcing McKinney uses to make her charges and go right to some obvious points. Wouldn’t the families of these 5,000 prisoners wonder what happened to them? And which prisoners, specifically, have not been accounted for? At least a few names of people who were in Louisiana state custody before Katrina and then not in custody afterwards would provide a starting point for any investigation. And it’s possible to lose a few bodies in the Louisiana swamps, but not even that legendary territory could hide 5,000 of them at once without a few of the locals taking notice.

Normally, we’d dismiss this kind of idiocy, but this is no ordinary idiot. McKinney is a former member of Congress and a candidate for President on a party that wants to claim national legitimacy. This shows the intellectual level of the Greens, but it also puts in play yet another baseless conspiracy theory about Katrina and its aftermath. We’ll be hearing this lie for the next few years, thanks to McKinney.

Is there any difference between this and Maxine Waters’ accusation that the CIA deliberate brought crack in to destroy America’s black community? Between this and Murtha’s accusation that the Marines in Haditha were cold blooded murderers? Between this and Ted Kennedy’s accusation that President Bush cooked up Iraq in Texas? Between this and Obama’s accusation that McCain cheated in the Saddleback debate? The kook left is the kook left – and they are in control of the Democratic party; the fact that a screwball like McKinney has switched from Democrat to Green just shows that there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between any of these paranoid, hate filled and ignorant leftists.

The State of The Race and The Potential for a Turnaround

With the so-called economic crisis dominating headlines, momentum has clearly turned in favor of Barack Obama.

Some conservatives are concerned about the outcome of the race. There is certainly reason to be concerned, but there’s no reason to throw in the towel.

Let’s consider the following. Despite the recent economic news, which hurts McCain being a member of the incumbent party, the race, according to the latest Gallup Daily Tracking Poll, still shows a close race with Obama at 48% and McCain at 44%. So, despite all the factors that should put Obama at least 12 points ahead, he is under 50% nationally.

The current state of the race is somewhat similar to how it was around the time of the Democrats’ convention. The main difference is that Obama is getting a bump from poor economic news, the same way he got a bump from a week of positive coverage from his convention. What this tells me is that the dynamic of the race can easily shift again in McCain’s favor, and there’s still time to do it.

It was only a few weeks ago that Democrats were worried that Obama was blowing the election. Things have changed quite dramatically since then… Some may have been because of Obama’s offensive strategy, but, I still believe much of the shift has less to do with Obama and more to do with voter perception resulting from economic news.

There is still time left for McCain to shift the momentum back in his favor. But, only he can make it happen. I don’t have the answer on how he turns it around, but I have a few suggestions.

  1. I don’t think McCain has effectively linked Obama and Biden to the Democratic Majority which has brought congressional approval down to historic lows in the single digits. He needs to make the case to the American people that Obama and Biden have been a part of the problem, and to put them in the White House with what will likely remain Democrat majorities in both Houses of Congress would be a continuation of the same problems that have arised in the past two years since they took over.
  2. McCain needs to challenge Obama on his alleged bipartisanship and his ability to go after corrupt members of his own party. The news from earlier today about Nancy Pelosi using her political action committee to enrich her own family is indicative of the corruption that is still rampant in the Democratic Party that goes unpunished by their fellow party members. Also, McCain should have challenged Obama to call on Rangel to step down from his chairmanship after all the barrage of stories of corrupt activities he’s been involved in had surfaced. He needs to demonstrate that while he’s been a maverick, Obama has not.
  3. Get Romney to Michigan. We need that state to secure victory and Romney’s connections to the state, coupled with his primary victory there makes him the most valuable surrogate he has to send there.
  4. McCain needs to talk about the economy, but move beyond the bailout. Most people may have an opinion about the bailout, but most also don’t understand the complexities of the situation. When the bailout is over and done with, the race will likely tighten up even more. So, McCain needs to talk about the economy in a way most people will understand and relate to.
  5. For Florida, bring in Rudy Giuliani and Joe Lieberman. Also, use Joe Lieberman to not only reach out to Independents, Reagan Democrats and Hillary Democrats, but also Jewish voters.
  6. William Ayers. Exploit it. Tony Rezko. Exploit it.

Those are just a few ideas. We’ll see how the next couple weeks pan out… I have no doubt the race will be a virtual tie in national polls and in electoral map projections again soon… the question is how things will go on the homestretch.

CA-04: You Were There, Charlie Brown

Tom McClintock is running for Congress in California’s 4th Congressional district. His opponent, Democrat Charlie Brown, has recently been exposed with videotape evidence to have attended a Code Pink anti-war rally, while in uniform, when a U.S. soldier was hung in effigy.

New video emerged today ending years of controversy over whether or not Charlie Brown attended an anti-war protest dressed in a military uniform. The video clearly shows Brown standing with anti-war demonstrators in front of a home where a soldier had been hanged in effigy.

Deborah Johns, mother of a Marine who served three tours of duty in Iraq, saw Charlie Brown that night (February 15, 2005). Brown’s campaign told Politicker that “Brown attended the rally in a camouflage jacket and spoke with people on both sides of the rally before leaving.”

“Deborah Johns said she saw Brown clearly on the side of the anti-war protestors,” said McClintock for Congress Spokesman Bill George. “People supporting the troops were on one side of the street and anti-war demonstrators were on the opposite side of the street. Charlie wants to be on both sides of every issue, but on this occasion at least he actually took a side. Unfortunately for Charlie it was the radical leftist side with people like Cindy Sheehan and Sean Penn,” George said.

Here is McClintock’s ad, featuring the video exposing Charlie Brown:

VP Debate Moderator Releasing Pro-Obama Book

WordNetDaily had the story earlier today.

The moderator of tomorrow’s vice-presidential debate is writing a book to come out on the day the next president takes the oath of office that aims to “shed new light” on Democratic candidate Barack Obama and other “emerging young African American politicians” who are “forging a bold new path to political power.”

Gwen Ifill of the Public Broadcasting Service program “Washington Week” is promoting “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama,” in which she argues the “black political structure” of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality.

Greta Van Susteren reports that the McCain campaign was unaware about the book:

the McCain campaign did NOT know about Gwen Ifill’s book (I think I told them when I made my efforts – emails about midnight – to find out!) I am stunned….the campaign (actually both) should have been told before the campaign agreed to have her moderate. It simply is not fair – in law, this would create a mistrial.

Okay, so here are my thoughts. For one thing, the McCain campaign should have done its homework on Ifill. With or without the book Ifill should have never been agreed on to be the moderator, as she’s shown incredible bias in the past

Of course, Ifill herself should have never been considered as moderator, as the book clearly presents an undeniable conflict of interest, as Ifill has a financial interest in Obama winning the election.

What this means in the end is that the deck is stacked heavily against Palin tomorrow night.

Improving the Bail Out Package

Some ideas I have:

1. Every American who agrees to support the package will get to punch the liberal of their choice.

2. To make things fair, everyone will get one government bail out on their next trip to Vegas.

3. Put electric shock collars ’round the necks of Reid and Pelosi – raffle off the right to shock them at will for a week for $1,000 a ticket.

4. Executives of failed banks to be put to work cleaning septic tanks. There’s just something poetic about it.

5. Make every male elected official promise his nuts that he’ll never ask for another bail out.

6. Figure out equivalent for female elected officials. Cancel Pelosi’s botox prescription?

7. Congressmen who wish to make televised comments have to dress up as clowns.

8. Figure out the average bribes and kickbacks a Congresscritter will get during his term – make him pay that much for the privilege of running for office.

9. Wasn’t there a movie once where when the gangster failed, he was forced to cut off one of his own fingers?

10. Make CEO’s of failed banks go to the unemployment office to ask for their golden parachute.

Have at it with your own ideas in comments.

Pelosi Paid Husband with PAC funds

The Washington Times has the exclusive:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband’s real estate and investment firm over the past decade, a practice of paying a spouse with political donations that she supported banning last year.

Financial Leasing Services Inc. (FLS), owned by Paul F. Pelosi, has received $99,000 in rent, utilities and accounting fees from the speaker’s “PAC to the Future” over the PAC’s nine-year history.

The payments have quadrupled since Mr. Pelosi took over as treasurer of his wife’s committee in 2007, Federal Election Commission records show. FLS is on track to take in $48,000 in payments this year alone – eight times as much as it received annually from 2000 to 2005, when the committee was run by another treasurer.

Lawmakers’ frequent use of campaign donations to pay relatives emerged as an issue in the 2006 election campaigns, when the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal gave Democrats fodder to criticize Republicans such as former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas and Rep. John T. Doolittle of California for putting their wives on their campaign and PAC payrolls for fundraising work.

Last year, Mrs. Pelosi supported a bill that would have banned members of Congress from putting spouses on their campaign staffs. The bill – which passed the House in a voice vote but did not get out of a Senate committee – banned not only direct payments by congressional campaign committees and PACs to spouses for services including consulting and fundraising, but also “indirect compensation,” such as payments to companies that employ spouses.

This is not the first time Pelosi has been corrupt with her political action committees. She was previously found guilty by the FEC for running two similar PACs (one of them being PAC to the Future) with the intention of raising twice as much money to give to Democrats. It was funds from those PACs with which she bought loyalty in her bid to become Minority Leader in the House after Dick Gephardt’s retirement.

Pelosi earlier election law violations were detail in Caucus Of Corruption, written by Mark and myself. Looks like Nancy is still up to her old corrupt ways. No suprise there. The question is, will House Republicans let this fade away or will they do something about it?

Governor Palin's Faith

From her interview with Hugh Hewitt, via NRO’s The Corner:

HEWITT: Do you think the mainstream media and the left understands your religious faith, Governor Palin?

PALIN: I think that there’s a lot of mocking of my personal faith, and my personal faith is very, very simple. I don’t belong to any church. I do have a strong belief in God, and I believe that I’m a heck of a lot better off putting my life in God’s hands, and saying hey, you know, guide me. What else do we have but guidance that we would seek from a Creator? That’s about as simple as it gets with my faith, and I think that there is a lot of mocking of that. And you know, so be it, though I do have respect for those who have differing views than I do on faith, on religion. I’m not going to mock them, and I would hope that they would kind of I guess give me the same courtesy through this of not mocking a person’s faith, but maybe perhaps even trying to understand a little bit of it.

So, what do you know? She’s non-denominational. Now, naturally, I pray she’ll eventually return to her baptismal faith, but in the end her faith is an issue between her and God, and none of us have the right to interfere. What has been really disgusting is the way the so-called tolerant left has attempted to demonize Governor Palin because, once upon a time in her faith journey, she attended an Assembly of God church. Whatever one may say about that denomination, its not like the people in charge were race-baiting con-artists who have in their pews people who sit there for 20 years and still claim they don’t get it…

Sarah Palin is my sister in Christ – and like all Christians, she is sustained in her daily tasks by her faith in the love and mercy of God. It is what keeps us on track no matter what life throws at us. It is what keeps us looking for the good in all situations…and thus leads Sarah Palin to rejoice in the gift of her Down’s Syndrome baby and leads me to rejoice that I am able to serve my aged father who’s health declines steadily. The extraordinarily nasty attacks launched on Palin do hurt – but they mostly hurt in the way they reveal how sad and locked into despair so many people are today. If Palin is any sort of a Christian – and I believe she’s one of the better examples – they she pities those who attack her, and prays they will see the light. I don’t know what Sarah does to turn anger into forgiveness, but each Christian has their way of doing it (for me its asking for the intervention of the Blessed Virgin), but turn it she does, and it shows in the fact that after weeks of cruel slander, she’s just the same sweet yet tough as nails “mom/wife/Governor” we GOPers fell for at the start.

What Media Bias? Part 131

Nothing like having a debate moderator with no axe to grind, huh?

The moderator of Thursday’s vice-presidential debate is writing a book to come out about the time the next president takes the oath of office that aims to “shed new light” on Democratic candidate Barack Obama and other “emerging young African American politicians” who are “forging a bold new path to political power.”

Gwen Ifill of the Public Broadcasting Service program “Washington Week” is promoting “The Breakthrough,” in which she argues the “black political structure” of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality.

Ifill declined to return a WND telephone message asking for a comment about her book project and whether its success would be expected should Obama lose. But she has faced criticism previously for not treating candidates of both major parties the same.

In the end, it won’t really matter – Palin will still make mincemeat of the corrupt and incompetent Biden…but if anyone really wants to claim that the MSM isn’t biased towards Obama, then I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
