300 Retired Admirals and Generals Endorse McCain

Because they know which man is fit to lead the magnificent men and women of America’s armed forces:

U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that 300 retired generals and admirals from around the country are endorsing John McCain for president. The retired generals and admirals announced their support with the following letter:

“We have had the honor and privilege of serving as career officers in the United States Armed Forces, and of serving shoulder to shoulder with so many of the fine young men and women who are the backbone of America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It is that experience that informs our judgment that John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to serve as America’s Commander-in Chief from the day of his inauguration.

“Our next president will confront national security challenges as significant as those faced by any administration in at least a generation. Success will require a leader with proven tenacity, judgment and courage. It will also require a leader with detailed knowledge of our military and other instruments of national power, and with years of experience dealing seriously with foreign leaders.

“John McCain’s entire life has been devoted to the service of America. Throughout a long and distinguished career in the military and in Congress, he has repeatedly displayed the courage and integrity to place America’s interests first — regardless of personal cost. And he has demonstrated the experience and wisdom to lead America — and, importantly, our allies — in effectively dealing with complex and vitally important national security challenges around the world.

“We unequivocally endorse him to continue his service to the country as the next President of the United States.”

These are serious times and the office of the President of the United States of America is not a place for on the job training for a former community organizer who mostly voted “present” during his short, vacuous political career. These generals and admirals are the people best able to determine what sorts of military issues will arise over the next four years, and they know that there is only one man running who already knows how to deal with the stresses and who has the courage to make the hard decisions some times necessary – that man is John McCain…though we here on our side would be more than willing to let Obama be an Undersecretary in, say, the Department of Commerce or some such, if Obama really wants to contribute.

Biden Boys Owe a Million

More of that good, old change we can believe in, right?

Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and brother James Biden owe $1 million to SimmonsCooper law firm of East Alton from a hedge fund buyout that fell apart in 2006.

SimmonsCooper attorneys have contributed hundreds of thousands to campaigns of Senator Biden, his other son Beau Biden, and John Markell, current candidate for governor, while turning Delaware into a national magnet for asbestos lawsuits.

In the hedge fund case, Hunter Biden and James Biden seek to shift their debt to former partner Joseph Lotito through counterclaims in a fraud suit he filed against them.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Bernard Fried rejected their bid in May, ruling that they should have checked out the fund more carefully.

“These counterclaims, conditionally pleaded, do not rest on a justiciable controversy, but seek only to foment uncertainty and chaos between the parties in the event that plaintiff is successful in presenting the main claims,” Fried wrote.

“Such pleading will not be countenanced,” he wrote. (emphasis added)

That is a page out of the Democrat playbook – in fact, we’ve seen it massively on display these past few days as Democrats have sought to shift all blame away from Frank and Dodd on the financial meltdown, blame Republicans like McCain who actually tried to prevent the mess from happening and, of course, hog all credit for anything good which might come out of this financial meltdown…in other words they, “seek only to foment uncertainty and chaos between the parties in the event that plaintiff is successful in presenting the main claims”. So far, at first blush, its had some success – as we can see in Obama rising in the polls all the way back up to where he was a month ago…before he crashed and burned because, well, he is a zero entirely out of his depth. Given that McCain has been acting like a patriot and a statesman, his Democratic opponents have been given free hand to spin and lie like Biden boys trying to get out of a million dollar debt…but the time is swift approaching when McCain will back at it, beating Obama like a drum.

Meanwhile, what of this, Democrats? Here’s the son and brother of your VP candidate who are mixed up in just the sort of corrupt financial BS which was at the heart of our financial crisis…you gonna call for Biden to get the boot? Or will you just swallow this along with everything else?

Obama Attempts Jack-Booted Thuggery in Missouri (BUMPED)

If you’re a lover of Freedom of Speech and the First Amendment, be very afraid of Barack Obama. The Obama campaign in Missouri has asked their fellow-travellers in law enforcement and attorney offices to aggressively pursue and to prosecute “…anyone who lies or runs a misleading TV ad during the presidential campaign. ” In American politics, I don’t make hyperbolic references to Stalinist or Nazi tactics, if at all. But in light of this directive from the Obama campaign, really, with what else can one compare this? Has the Obama campaign completely disregarded the First Amendment right to free political speech? Have they suddenly come up with their own Constitution?

Governor Blunt has released a statement regarding this travesty:

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

Apparently, to the detriment of Barack Obama, Saul Alinsky left out the chapter regarding freedom of political speech in his book, “Rules for Radicals.”

UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: I couldn’t resist:

Reviving the Spirit of Munich

Consider this a long-range, opening shot in an elitist attempt to justify an eventual Obama Administration foreign policy:

Quite apart from their unhappy consequences, all these invocations of Munich begin by rewriting history. Chamberlain was a democratic leader who knew that most of his people understandably did not want to go to war in 1938, only 20 years after another terrible war in which about three-quarters of a million British men had been killed.

Besides which, Chamberlain was far from alone in thinking that he was addressing a real grievance. The one accurate thing about Kagan’s quaint comparison is that the residents of the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia no more want to be ruled by Georgia today than the Sudeten Germans wanted to be ruled by the Czechs 70 years ago.

While it’s lamentably true that German resentment at “the slave treaty of Versailles” following World War I helped bring Hitler to power, there is another inconvenient truth: Between the wars, British and American liberals almost universally believed that the post-1918 settlement had been unjust. H.N. Brailsford, the leading leftist English commentator on foreign affairs, had written in 1920 that, of all the Versailles treaty’s redrawing of borders, “the worst offence was the subjection of over three million Germans to Czech rule.” Experience seemed to show that nationalism was the great force of the age and that it needed to be assuaged — or appeased, a word first used, it should be remembered, by those who advocated doing so.

To be sure, Churchill denounced the Munich agreement in a resonant speech: “This is only the first sip, the first bitter foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in olden time.” But he was speaking as someone untroubled by any sympathy for national self-determination.

In other words, Munich wasn’t a bad deal, in and of itself…the Sudenten Germans were just going for national self-determination, Hitler’s Germany had a legitimate interest in the fate of the Sudentenland, Czechoslovakia had no business ruling the Sudentenland, Germans were justly outraged over the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles…later in the piece, the author also notes that Churchill was opposed to Indian independence, and thus didn’t have a leg to stand on when he argued that Britain must support democratic Czechoslovakia.

In all my time of reading on matters of history and politics, I’ve never seen a better example of pure, unadulterated, ignorant bullsh**.

The principles at stake in the Munich talks weren’t the fate of the Sudenten Germans, the Republic of Czechosolovakia, the validity of the Treaty of Versailles or, even, the worth of democracy and national self-determination – all of these were raised, by Hitler and those who wished to appease him, in order to cover up the fact that the issue was collective security against unprovoked aggression. It was felt, post-WWI, that had Imperial Germany been confronted with the entire anti-German coalition of 1918 in 1914, Germany would have been restrained from launching its war of aggression against France and Russia. The League of Nations was set up to commit all the powers concerned to come to the defense of any power or group of powers threatened by un-provoked attack. Churchill, at the conclusion of the Munich, was not so much aghast at the loss of Czechoslovakia (though, in a purely military sense, the loss of Czech military power and bases was a catastrophe for the Anglo-French alliance), but at the fact that Hitler was assured by the Anglo-French alliance that un-provoked aggression would not be thwarted. When Chamberlain, 9 months later, asserted that Britian would stand by Poland if she were attacked by Germany, Hitler justifiably considered this to be a worthless statement, and thus World War Two was assured.

What is wanted here? A justification for a surrender to Putin’s imperial ambitions and Iran’s desire for nuclear weapons and the export of Jihad designed to eventually destroy Israel. This will also be applied to any Chinese demand upon Taiwan and any continued nuclear blackmail by North Korea – and, indeed, any and all demands made upon the West, and the United States, by anyone who ranges himself against same. While Obama’s asinine statement that he’ll meet with tyrants without pre-conditions has caused consternation among the wise, people of the left are delighted with the idea – viewing the West in general, and the United States in particular, as the source of the world’s ills (just as apologists for tyrants in the 1930’s so identified the West in general and the British Empire in particular), the demands of tyrants – as long as they are anti-Western and especially anti-American – are entertained as legitimate voices which must be accommodated in the interests of peace and justice.

We must not un-learn the lesson of Munich – we must assert, always and everywhere, that un-provoked aggression will be met, and defeated, regardless of cost. And, no, what we did in Iraq wasn’t un-provoked aggression and any attempt here to equate liberating Iraq and selling out Czechoslovakia is the attempt of a fool – and a wicked fool, into the bargain. This is, unfortunately, which is being stored up for us and which will be unleashed under an Obama Administration – the elites of the world are desirous of a world in which the United States is weakened, tyrants strengthened and more and more of the decisions of the world are taken out of the hands of the people and placed in the hands of elites, who will travel to various Munichs around the world and slowly but surely sell us all into slavery, just so long as the elites can remain on top, and in extreme wealth and comfort.

They on the left have been slavering after this for ages, and in Obama they see their big chance – an ignorant man who will be easily manipulated into doing whatever the elite wishes to do. To imagine that Obama – who seems to not have an iota of foundation in world affairs and history – will be able to prevent well-informed elites from imposing on him a policy of appeasing tyrants is to hope against all available evidence. For the sake not just of the United States but of the people of the world – and especially those people of the world, our brothers and sisters, who labor under tyranny – we must prevent Obama from coming to power…he make for us a bitter cup of misery and eventual world war, and perhaps ultimate defeat. We can stop this by the mere fact of keeping him out of office – or we can allow it by mere fact of not working hard enough for victory.

Rezko to Sing?

Don’t care what they say, but Team Obama will have some nervous moments about this:

Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a convicted influence peddler who was once one of Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s most trusted confidants, has met with federal prosecutors and is considering cooperating in the corruption probe of the governor’s administration, sources told the Tribune.

Rezko’s possible change of heart—after years of steadfast refusal—has sent ripples through a tight circle of prominent defense attorneys who represent dozens of potential witnesses and targets in the wide-ranging probe.

His cooperation would give prosecutors investigating the governor and his wife access to someone they have described as an ultimate political insider at the center of a pervasive pay-to-play scheme.

Rezko’s trial this year laid bare a culture of scams, bribes and backroom deals stretching from City Hall to the Statehouse. It even became fodder in the presidential campaign of Democratic nominee Barack Obama, whose fundraising and personal ties to Rezko go back more than a decade.

Rezko has made no deal in the wake of his June corruption conviction, sources familiar with the situation said, but has had preliminary talks with prosecutors before an October sentencing that could put him in prison for years. Still, there are indications Rezko has already provided investigators with information.

Four attorneys have told the Tribune in recent days that federal prosecutors have telephoned them and other attorneys either with news Rezko is talking, or armed with details only Rezko could know. The lawyers speculated prosecutors are using the preliminary talks with Rezko to shake loose more cooperation from other witnesses.

Obama is hip deep in the sewer which is Chicago Democratic politics – a sewer filled with influence peddling, kickbacks, bribes, “pay to play” and every form of corruption…Obama participated, too…unless you really want to believe, for instance, that it was just the oddest coincidence that Rezko bought that property adjacent to Obama’s home which brought down the price of the Obama Manse by a very large amount…could it be that Rezko is thinking that his very good and very long term friend Obama won’t be in a position to help him come January?

Bailout Deal Reached

According to Politico:

House and Senate negotiators have reached tentative agreement on Treasury’s $700 billion rescue plan for the financial markets after a marathon Capitol negotiating session that started Saturday afternoon and stretched into early Sunday morning.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the deal still had to be “committed to paper,” a process that will continue throughout the night, with an eye toward a formal announcement Sunday.

“We have something verbal,” said Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.).

Republican Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), the chief negotiator for the House GOP, said he was “looking forward to what we’re going to see on paper” but said he was optimistic that it would be something House Republicans could support.

“I’m not sure yet we can sell it to our conference but I’m 100% sure that this is the best deal we could get,” said a Republican aide.

Said Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson: “We’ve been working very hard on this and we’ve made great progress toward a deal which will work and will be effective in the marketplace and effective for all Americans . . . .We’ve still got a lot to do to finalize it, but I think we’re there.”

Seems a bit tentative and my guess is that it could blow up by morning if Democrats have managed to slip in there things like the BS funding for ACORN, but it seems that at least some deal is on track. A lot of hard work for all involved – with John McCain and the House GOP representing America, and the rest of the Congress representing the status quo. And, as usual in a crisis, Obama is nowhere to be found…one wonders if he’ll even show back up in DC to vote on this…

McCain is there, of course…its where leaders go when leadership is needed.
