Leftwing Tolerance and Fair Play

Ah, its so nice to have liberals around – because they are so respectful of differing opinions and would never seek to impose their views on others:

Metro State College is investigating a professor who asked students to write an essay critical of Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin. One student said the instructor singled out Republican students in the class and allowed others to ridicule them.

“I was shocked, I was holy cow, this is just an open door for him to discuss politics with us,” said Jana Barber, a student in the class.

Barber shared the first class assignment with CBS4 Wednesday. Instructor Andrew Hallam asked students to write an essay to contradict what he called the ‘fairy tale image of Palin’ presented at the Republican National Convention.

“What the faculty’s responsibility is to provide opportunity for critical thinking and civic engagement so bringing something of relevancy into the classroom was the faculty’s goal,” said Cathy Lucas, spokeswoman for Metro State. “Should he have broadened it and included all the political figures, yes.”

Metro State officials are investigating claims of bias, harassment and bullying.

And liberals wonder why they are held in such contempt…

What to Do When Your Banking System Melts Down

Nevada Pundit cuts through a lot of the nonsense out there:

This is an issue that the government has had for 50 years, the result of which has caused an incoherent patchwork of regulations that are either confusing, outdated, irrelevant, over restrictive, or any combination of these. The answer to the problem isn’t more regulations, the answer is to find the right regulations that reflect the economy as it is today and regulations that allow the fluidity to adapt to the economy of tomorrow.

John McCain was right when he stated the fundamentals of the economy are healthy. Unfortunately, the one part of the economy that is not healthy is the banking industry, especially those banks that had assets heavily backed by mortgages. This is the one part of the economy has the ability to heavily influence all the other parts of the economy and so is a threat that could ruin those fundamentals that are sound.

I think that McCain was right that a 9/11 style investigation is needed, not to ferret out the wrongdoers, but to find ways to prevent the underlying causes that create these kind of problems. Only then can the government put into effect effective regulations that don’t overburden the business’s trying to create a strong economy but also don’t allow them to overreach themselves causing these types of collapses. The U.S. economy is the backbone of America’s power and can no longer afford to be governed by a patchwork series of regulations that are created by over zealous politicians. Reform is needed and John McCain is the person to bring about this change.

It occurs to me that nations which go on for any period of time tend to revamp their legal codes – things do tend to get jumbled, much the same way those kitchen drawers you carefully organized last year are a complete mess this year. Its human nature to take on tasks with an ad-hoc attitude – we do what works most conveniently at the moment and only some times relate our current action to the comprehensive life situation we are in. When you’re done washing the potato peeler you can carefully put it back in the drawer you got it from, or just toss it into the nearest drawer…and it works ok if you do that, though at times you might find yourself hunting around for the peeler when you would have found it instantly had you put it away properly…but, even then, you still get your peeler and thus your potatoes peeled…though, of course, there might come that day when for some reason you tossed it in the tool box in the garage and instead of mashed potatoes you’re having baked and you then go buy another peeler and then, naturally, find the other one and now you’ve got two…neither of which is needed all the time ’cause who has potatoes every day? Eventually the Mrs is on your case about what a horrific mess you’ve made out of the kitchen and you spend a weekend reorganizing it to heck and gone, and for a moment you feel like you’ve finally got things under control…until you finish washing the cheese grater and its proper place is all the way across the kitchen as opposed to the cupboard right next to you…

See how it works?

So it is with government regulations – this or that thing happens and thus and such law or regulation is enacted to deal with it but its not like anyone really knows all of the laws and regulations so the one you just did may or may not fit neatly into the rest and this, in turn, makes it necessary to kinda twist things around so that all the regulations and laws at least sorta-work and, meanwhile, those who are really in the know have figured out how to drive a Mack truck through loopholes in the regulations and thus use the banks and government agencies as private piggy banks for all manner of nonsense until one day you wake up to find that 500 points are knocked off the DOW and Mr and Mrs Taxpayer are told they’ll have to pony up billions to rescue banks which once upon a time were worth billions but are now worth about as much as Monopoly money.

Here lies McCain’s very strong advantage over Obama – McCain has been out front on this issue and is known far and wide as a man with little sympathy or patience for the malefactors of great wealth (government and private) who cruise through the American economy, leeching of the productive sectors and who always manage to come out rich no matter how badly they put the ship of State up on the rocks. Obama, meanwhile, is hip deep in the politicians and business people who exploited the screwed up mass of laws and regulations – coupled with Democrat-led “oversight” which amounted to “do whatever you want, as long as we get juicy donations and other swag out of the deal” – which allowed our current financial crisis to occur. McCain can forcefully call for reforms and he’d be well served to call for a complete reworking of our financial system laws and regulations to ensure that they reflect current realities and protect the American people and the American economy from those business people and politicians who view America as a cow to be milked for all its worth.

We Republicans believe in free markets – but we must recognize that markets aren’t entirely free when well-connected people are allowed to game the system. Furthermore, it is required of us that we come up with the comprehensive fix for the problem in order to forestall a liberal attempt to merely inject more government into the system, thus just perpetuating the current confluence of money and power which created the problem to begin with. We do need change we can believe in – and its unbelievable to think that Obama can deliver in the face of the entrenched political and money interests who back his candidacy.

Biden: Paying Higher Taxes Is Patriotic

Joe Biden calls income distribution “patriotic.” I call it Socialism.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Thursday that paying more in taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans. The Republican campaign for president calls the tax increases their Democratic opponents propose “painful” instead of patriotic.

[…]

“We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people,” Biden said in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: “It’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

Unbelievable.

Striking Back Against the Scandal-Mongers

Its about time that the decent people of this nation started hitting back:

Troopergate Investigator Stephen Branchflower has been slapped with two lawsuits, one by a group of Alaskan residents who believe his inquiry represents an abuse of their tax dollars and the other by five Republican lawmakers who called Branchflower’s tactics “McCarthyistic.”

Both suits were filed at the Third Judicial District in Anchorage on Tuesday.

Citizens Robert Bettishworth, James Dodson, Seth Church, David Eichler, Thomas Temple and Alan Simmons complained the $100,000 allocated to determine whether Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing of a political appointee is “a statutorily unauthorized waste of public monies.”

The citizen suit raised doubts about Branchflower’s neutrality, citing public statements from the investigator’s “Project Director” Democratic Sen. Hollis French.

French, who is actively supporting Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy, handpicked Branchflower to conduct an investigation to determine whether Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin violated ethics rules in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. French has publicly said he expects Branchflower’s inquiry to culminate in an “October surprise” that would hurt Palin’s chances of becoming vice president in November.

Their suit specifically detailed an exchange Branchflower had with Alaskan lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last Friday. “Branchflower admitted that not only did Senator French actually remove a name from Branchflower’s subpoena list, but that he was not sure why French had done that,” their suit said. “When asked specifically about the removal of the name, Branchflower stated that he ‘would have to defer that question to Mr. French,’ thus admitting that the investigation was under the de facto control and direction of Senator French.”

Its just a political hatchet job – slime politics at its worst; the sort of thing which makes the left’s treatment of Bush look tame. Mostly, however, this is just all too typical leftwing politics – using a smear as means of undercutting the appeal of people who are better qualified, more honest and who actually plan to fight for the people.

In older times we would arrange for a poltroon like French to have a stripe or two laid on his back – treating him in accordance with his dirty dog tactics. But we’re more refined, now – and French has a bright future in Democratic politics, especially if his smear were to work. Democratic leaders only calculate a person’s worth by how much they help advance Democrats to power – questions of honesty, dignity and basic human decency don’t take a back seat to other considerations – for Democratic leaders, such concerns don’t even exist.

Obama Stokes the Fires of Racial Hatred

Why? Because it is what liberals do – and Rush Limbaugh is always a convenient target, as the MSM will never rise to his defense:

We’ve been doing a little research here, ladies and gentlemen, on this Obama Spanish language ad quoting me. It’s a TV ad that they quote me as saying a couple things, an ad running in New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado. One of the things they quote me as saying is, “Shut your mouth or get out.” And what they’re doing in this ad is tying me to McCain, saying that the Republicans are two-faced on immigration and so forth. While McCain is out there saying he loves illegal immigrants and wants to welcome them, the real Republicans like me are saying, shut your mouth or get out. Now, what’s interesting, I never said that. Even in the heat of the amnesty battle, I never said shut your mouth or get out, even in the middle of those protests. What we have learned is that the usual suspects are behind this. The Media Matters types, the Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting types, they are the people putting together Obama ads. Obama’s new, right? Obama’s into unity, Obama’s into change, he’s using the same old Democrat Party flacks, the same hacks. The statement you’re a foreigner, shut your mouth and get out, was made, I did say it, but in a parody of Mexican immigration laws in a Morning Update April 6th of 2006.

We were making fun of Mexican immigration laws by trying to point out the stark difference between what you can do as an immigrant or illegal immigrant in Mexico versus what they can do here…

…It happens constantly when they want to link me, the left, constantly take me totally out of context, knowingly doing so. We can even go back, we could probably post on the website the Dittocam version of this Morning Update from April 6 of 2006 to prove it. Well, we don’t need to prove it, but here. I’m reciting Mexican immigration law: You’re a foreigner, shut your mouth or get out. The Obama campaign has taken “shut your mouth or get out” from this commentary and put it in an Obama ad and claiming I said that about Mexicans in this country, when I never have, plain and simple. Also, what is the other quote they have me saying? I don’t have it in front of me. Stupid and unskilled Mexicans. That was way back in 1994 from the NAFTA debate, and I was chiding Americans — remember, I was pro-NAFTA — I was chiding Americans for being afraid of losing the kind of jobs that would go to an unskilled workforce. I was referring to the stupid and unskilled workers in this country, too, as a sales pitch for NAFTA, don’t worry about these kind of jobs, they’re jobs you won’t do anyway, is what I said back in 1994. And both of these things have been taken out of context on purpose…

What Obama wants is for hispanics to hate Republicans – doesn’t matter that McCain has a long pro-immigrant history, doesn’t matter that Rush never said the things Obama claims…all that matters is that hate be created and made to fester, because Obama feels this will help him with hispanic voters in November. I recall ads out here in Nevada from Obama just prior to the caucuses which absurdly claimed Hillary was anti-hispanic – in other words, this race-baiting is not something new from Obama, but is a tactic the Obama campaign appears to rely upon.

This is change? This is hope? No, this is just typical leftwing fear- and hate-mongering in the service of advancing leftwing power.

McCain Endorsed by Member of DNC Platform Committee

Todayit was announced that Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, endorsed John McCain and Sarah Palin.

“In an election as important at this, we must choose the candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship and reforming government, and that’s John McCain,” Rothschild said. “We can’t afford a president who lacks experience and judgment and has never crossed party lines to work for meaningful reform. Amid tough economic times and foreign policy concerns, we need someone who is ready to lead. Although I am a Democrat, I recognize that it’s more important to put country ahead of party and that’s why I support John McCain.”

Rothschild, an attorney and businesswoman, supported Sen. Clinton during the Democratic primaries. She will campaign for Sen. McCain through Election Day.

One can’t overstate the significance of this endorsement. This speaks highly to John McCain’s bipartisan appeal. Since the Democrats took over Congress, partisan bickering has only gotten worse. Democrats promised bipartisanship, but delivered partisan rancor. Barack Obama has proven to be part of the problem, not part of the solution. If Lynn Forester de Rothschild can recognize Obama’s partisanship and lack of competence, then I have no doubt many Democrats will recognize the same thing and vote for McCain in November.
