Lefty bloggers pretend that they can win on issues… but their behavior in recent weeks and months and years has shown repeatedly that they couldn’t care less about the issues. Factcheck.org debunks some of the lies being spread on the internet about Sarah Palin.
A Libertarian Case for McCain/Palin
From Vin Suprynowicz out here in the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
Wishing won’t make John McCain a small-government libertarian. But think back to how the defeatist fellow-travelers in the media ridiculed him when he said The Surge could defeat al-Qaida in Iraq.
Think back to when the genius political analysts told you McCain’s campaign was dead, that this guy was so clueless he had no remaining plan but to spend the entire autumn in New Hampshire, hanging out and gabbing with the locals at Dunkin’ Donuts.
And then last week my former senator, John McCain, threw the entire race into a maelstrom, confounding all expectations and common wisdom by choosing Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate.
If Democrats believed what they say — that Gov. Palin is such a poor choice that John McCain might as well fold his tent and go home — they should be condescendingly patting the little lady on the head right now, saying, “Oh, how cute.”
So how are we to explain the way the Democratic Party is now going after Sarah Palin and her perfectly lovely pregnant daughter, for all the world like the frenzied final holdouts on some Japanese-occupied Pacific atoll, shrieking “Banzai!” as they level their bayonets and charge the machine guns in their loincloths?
…Why the desperation?
Because Vice President Sarah Palin would mean Americans could actually end up electing a woman president without tapping a manipulative, soulless, stay-married-just-to-stay-in-power socialist.
How dare the Republicans threaten to do that? Only the “progressive” party is supposed to be allowed to put the first articulate woman in line for the White House! Why, it’s just like when the Republicans dared to put a conservative black man on the Supreme Court. It’s so wrong!
Sarah Palin is a gun owner and Westerner who seems to still understand the core American notions of Freedom and the Frontier, a woman who vetoed a half billion dollars in proposed state spending and “put the government of our state back on the side of the people.”
…What this is really all about is that she is the first everyday American in a generation, the first person who is not an Ivy League attorney, not a career Washington insider, not vetted by the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations and the CIA and Ellen Goodman, a person who works her husband’s fishing boat and drives her own car to work and buys her own groceries, to be given a shot at leading this nation.
And that appears to have a certain element of the political power structure terrified.
Why do you suppose that is?
Gov. Sarah Palin can’t save America all by herself. That’s the underlying absurdity of this near-religious frenzy to pick a new Guy On A White Horse every eight years.
But an America that could elect Sarah Palin might still save itself.
That’s why.
I know what you libertarians out there are thinking – is this Vin character really a libertarian? Well, he calls the public school system a “government-funded indoctrination program”. That good enough for ya?
To bring change to Washington doesn’t mean just being someone who doesn’t live in DC, or hasn’t lived there long – the mentality of the Beltway lives in many places far, far away from the oozing sewer of DC politics. We don’t have to be concerned about whether or not DC will capture Obama – he long ago surrendered to that mindset that Other People’s Money is meant to be spent and that Government Knows Best. There has been in Obama not a single original idea; not a single deviation from leftwing ideology; not a single instance of personal courage in the face of adversity. Someone so committed to the liberal power structure is not someone we can look to for real change.
Now, to whom does McCain/Palin owe its rise? To the merit of McCain/Palin. McCain didn’t quit when everyone (including myself) figured he was a political goner – he kept right at it, never losing his cool but clearly enunciating a message which indicated that in a rough year for the GOP, he was the best person to beat the Democrat’s presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton. And so McCain rose to the top of the GOP, only to find that Hillary had already been bested, and Obama was on top…but while many looked warily at the old man McCain and contrasted him with the young, hip Obama, McCain kept right at it, noting Obama’s weaknesses, and then selecting a VP who had both excellent qualities and highlighted the deficiencies of Obama/Biden. If McCain/Palin wins the day, then we’ll have an Executive entirely free from any entangling political alliances and free to work for the people – and this may end up being especially true if, as I suspect, McCain would end up serving one term (though if this turns out to be the case, don’t look for an announcement until mid-2011).
This is not to say that McCain/Palin would create Heaven on Earth – we Christians know full well that only God can (and will) do that, and that will be in God’s good time. But if we can get a government which actually wakes up in the morning and asks itself, “is this good for the people?”, we’ll have gone a long way towards fixing the so-far intractable problems of our nation.

Getting a tight feeling in the gut, lefties?
The Original Mavericks…
Today, the McCain campaign released its latest television ad, called “Original Mavericks.” As the McCain campaign notes, “the ad highlights John McCain’s and Governor Sarah Palin’s record of bringing reform to government so that government fights for the people.”
The ad will be airing on national cable and in key states.
The Obama campaign, clearly desperate to make up all the ground he lost, is not only attacking Palin’s experience, which is far superior to his own, but is questioning her record, and trying to claim that McCain and Palin aren’t the mavericks they claim to be.
Obama attacked Palin, saying she supported the “Bridge to Nowhere.” Of course, what’s interesting about this is that both Barack Obama and Joe Biden voted for the “Bridge to Nowhere.”
But here’s the real kicker… Alaska Democrats actually credited Palin with killing the “Bridge to Nowhere”:
Conservative bloggers point out that in their campaign against Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, Alaska Democrats gave credit to Gov. Palin for helping to kill the Bridge to Nowhere.
“Gov. Sarah Palin said the $398 million bridge was $329 million short of full funding, and only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it,” the Democrats say. “She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the state had higher priorities.”
On another page the Dems say, “Gov. Palin recently cancelled the Gravina Island Bridge near Ketchikan that would have connected the Alaska mainland with Gravina Island (population: 50).”
After it was revealed that the website, run by the Alaska Democratic Party, was giving Palin the credit she deserved, they attempted to hide the page from public view.
Sad. When Democrats like Obama have no record to run on, they try to distort or hide it.
We’re going to win. Democrats are desperate, and we’re on the path to victory.

Just 'Cause it Will Make Liberals Cringe
Gallup has McCain up by three.
UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: A USA TODAY/Gallup poll has McCain up by 10 points amongst likely voters…
The Republican National Convention has given John McCain and his party a significant boost, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an “enthusiasm gap” that has dogged the GOP all year.
McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican’s biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.
[…]
In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples.
Obama: "…My Muslim Faith."
UPDATE: It’s really funny reading liberals going nuts about this video. For eight years they’ve jumped on every single verbal gaffe made by President Bush, and have been certainly jumping on McCain in the same fashion. Barack Obama himself claimed in his acceptance speech that John McCain legitimately believed that you are rich if you make over $5 million dollars, when that was clearly a joke. Did that matter to Barack Obama? No it didn’t.
Liberals, if you don’t like us jumping on verbal gaffes of Barack Obama or Joe Biden… tough.
UPDATE: I could also point out some ridiculously offensive things Obama has said too.
UPDATE: Power Line notes that the Obama campaign, desperate to regain ground, is deliberately lying in a new ad that suggests John McCain thinks people making $5 million a year are middle class. Even the Washington Post could concede that Obama was deliberately misleading.

What does he think?
I really like the way Palin drives the people I dislike to distraction.
Andrew Sullivan on the Palin selection:
“John McCain has demonstrated with this insane decision that he is unfit to be president of the United States. This was an act of near-criminal negligence. If he can behave this recklessly and impulsively with this decision, the idea of allowing him to become president of the United States is only a smidgen less terrifying than thinking of Palin in that position.”
This post has it all – – the Stalinistic psychological misdiagnosis of political opposition (“insane”, “recklessly”, “impulsively”), the attempted criminalization of political disagreement (“an act of near-criminal negligence”), and the paranoid hyperbole (“terrifying”).
Can you imagine how the Obamacans will freak when McCain/Palin wins, and they do a real steady, competent, level headed, moderate, non partisan job? You know, everything Obama promised until he wrapped up the nomination.
I think we’ve all had just about enough of the endless rancor – I do continue to blame the left for it, but assigning blame doesn’t get rid of the issue. Essentially, I’m willing to meet liberalism half way on a lot of issues, if they are willing to do so with the right. Some issues are intractable and we’ll just have to fight it out and see who wins, but there is room for compromise which doesn’t surrender core principles of either liberalism or conservatism.
Now, while a lot of liberals out there might find this mere partisanship on my part, the plain fact of the matter is that we are far more likely to get compromise with McCain/Palin than we are with Obama/Biden. Obama talks a good game, but in the end he’s an ultra liberal who hasn’t dared to compromise an iota on liberal ideas – we won’t get from Obama a willingness to, say, grant partial privatization in return for higher payroll taxes to fund social security for an additional decade or two; liberal ideology says “no retreat” on SS privatization, and Obama has given no indication that he’ll defy his base…McCain, on the other hand, has already defied his base at times and I can’t imagine a President McCain refusing partial privatization simply because the other side is insistent upon modest payroll tax increases.
To expand on my example for illustrative purposes, getting to any sort of privatization is key to our program, because we are convinced that once people see how superior it is, they will demand more and more of it…as for liberals, they are convinced that privatization is too risky, and in order to allay their concerns, they are getting more money into the SS system, and if their views are correct, privatization will fail and people will turn firmly back to the current SS system. This is actually a win/win for liberalism – if privatization works, they can claim partial credit for it, if it fails they can lay all the blame on the GOP…all it takes for this happy event is a willingness on the part of Democrats to concede a small point and allow partial privatization. On and on it will go with issue after issue, if we have people on both sides willing to give. McCain will, Obama won’t – or, more accurately, can’t; he can’t because he lacks the imagination and the raw courage it takes to defy ideological purists.
We have a stunning opportunity this fall to really do a good turn for our nation – by putting in to the Executive the skill, courage and flexibility – grounded in Reaganite principles – necessary to break the logjam and isolate the hardheaded people left and right (though its easier to dispense with the kook right, as its much smaller than the kook left). As long time readers will know, a primary goal of mine has been to isolate the far left and exclude them from the corridors of American power – I’ll never agree with liberalism’s basic premises, but I can work with liberals who have cut themselves loose from the kook left, as conservatism cut itself loose from the kook right about 40 years ago (with periodic purges since then as kook righties have slipped into the conservative movement). We’ll see how far this sentiment goes – though there are some indicators that it is large, and growing rapidly.
McCain Troops Rescue Old Glory
Just all too typical:
Democrats are not caring for their Stars and Stripes. At least that’s the message out of John McCain’s campaign.
McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags from the site of Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday, redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally in Colorado Springs on Saturday.
The move was an overt swipe at Obama from a campaign whose motto has been “country first.” But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry out a “cheap political stunt.”
McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.
Boy Scouts were sorting through 84 bags of flags in Colorado on Saturday, before a McCain supporter had veterans distribute them to the audience.
“We want to find good homes for these flags,” radio host Dan Caplis said at the rally, adding that whatever flags remained would be placed at memorials throughout Colorado.
Audience members, who booed when Caplis announced that the flags were left in Denver, waved the flags and chanted “U.S.A” before McCain arrived at the rally with his running mate, Sarah Palin.
Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.
“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.
Two problems here:
Why didn’t the masses of asses take the flags home?
Is there no one in Team Obama who thought, “hey, US flags in a trash bag ain’t to cool”?
When I get a US flag, I keep it – and when the time comes for it to be retired, the trash isn’t the place I dispose of it. Somewhere in my garage there should still be, nicely rolled up, a flag I picked up by the side of the road shortly after 9/11…it was one of those flags people were attaching to their car windows and it must have blown off…I had noticed it as I was running to the scene of a car accident and I went back for it after the determination was made that no one was seriously injured and police and fire personnel were on the way. I just couldn’t let our flag lie in a ditch by the side of the road. The only thing I’d probably have more concern over would be the Blessed Sacrament (look it up). Its just too precious a symbol to be lightly cast away – too many men and women have shed their blood for it, you see?
And yet after Obama’s speech, it appears that thousands of Democrats lightly cast aside the semi-sacred symbol of the United States of America. The flags were just props – something to wave while the cameras were on, but not something needed at home, or to be treated with respect.
Really, Democrats – get with the program. Being patriotic isn’t hard, and holding in respect the symbols of our nation should come as naturally as breathing.
