Obama's Distortions
How is Barack Obama distorting John McCain’s comments on Iraq? Check out our McCain blog for the answer….
Pelosi Backpedals
It looks like Nancy Pelosi got the message from Hillary supporters and is now saying super-delegates should vote their conscience.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the superdelegates who may ultimately decide the Democratic party’s presidential nominee have a right to vote as they wish, and that the drawn-out contest between candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama should be allowed to reach its conclusion.
“These superdelegates have the right to vote their conscience and who they think would be the better president, or who can win, but they also then should get involved in the campaigns and make their power known there,” Pelosi said in an interview aired Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
So really, how do you all feel about the whole super-delegate business?

Bounce
The same day that The Independent (UK) pretty much claimed that our economy was heading for another Great Depression, stocks rallied significantly and the dollar rose.
In an election year you can expect plenty of doom and gloom rhetoric about the economy from the Democrats, who have a political interest in the economy doing poorly. But I heard a few forecasts on the radio which said the economic slowdown may be very short-lived. Still, it’s time for Congress to do its part to keep the economy strong by making the Bush tax cuts permanent.
UPDATE: Bernanke: Economy NOT in a recession.
The Audacity of Lies
Looks like more dishonesty from Barack Obama has been uncovered…
During his first run for elected office, Barack Obama played a greater role than his aides now acknowledge in crafting liberal stands on gun control, the death penalty and abortion — positions that appear at odds with the more moderate image he has projected during his presidential campaign.
The evidence comes from an amended version of an Illinois voter group’s detailed questionnaire, filed under his name during his 1996 bid for a state Senate seat.
Late last year, in response to a Politico story about Obama’s answers to the original questionnaire, his aides said he “never saw or approved” the questionnaire.
They asserted the responses were filled out by a campaign aide who “unintentionally mischaracterize[d] his position.”
But a Politico examination determined that Obama was actually interviewed about the issues on the questionnaire by the liberal Chicago nonprofit group that issued it. And it found that Obama — the day after sitting for the interview — filed an amended version of the questionnaire, which appears to contain Obama’s own handwritten notes added to one answer.
Pathetic. Obama is trying to cover up just how radical and out-of-the-mainstream he really is.
Obama for Duce?
Well, Mussolini made the trains run on time – and at least one San Franciscan is convinced that Obama will make the bus run on time:
Obama fever has overtaken San Francisco. Undeterred by the conspiracy theories, hatred, and vitriol spewed by Obama’s 20-year “like an uncle to me” pastor, Jeremiah Wright, local liberals are in thrall to their perceived savior. They seem to think that every problem, no matter how trivial, can be solved by Saint Obama.
As a case in point, an elderly man I was chatting with yesterday at a city bus stop about MUNI delays (a time-honored tradition in San Francisco) concluded by stating, “I hope Obama gets elected so these things will be fixed.” So, along with ending poverty and creating world peace, Obama’s going to make the buses run on time.
Playing devil’s advocate, I responded, “He’s not the Second Coming, you know,” to which the man responded, “yes, but neither is she, or he,” referring to Hillary Clinton and John McCain. “But no politician is,” I answered, “and this is a local issue, anyway.” “I’m just sick of this world, he said”, sighing, “and Obama can fix it.”
Given that the bus arrived seconds later, perhaps he was onto something.
You liberals out there do realise that Obama is just a rather conventional liberal as well as being a product of the notoriously corrupt Chicago Democratic machine, aren’t you? These are not the usual ingredients for a person who will actually change things…but, I guess it doesn’t matter. After all, the guy who thinks that Obama will fix all problems is probably one of those convinced that Chimpy McSmirk BusHitler lied us into Iraq for oil/Haliburton/Likud/what have you.
Back in 2004, I often noted the Democrats’ disconnect from reality, and I think it has only gotten worse. We do live in an Age of Lies, and I think that some people are so far gone in them – and so comfortable holding them – that there is not much we can do for them. We just have to work our way around them – and our primary task in 2008 is to beat Obama (should he gain the nomination) without pushing these people off the deep end. They’re already convinced that 2000 and 2004 were stolen by EEEVIL Republican conspiracies, and if they feel another election has been stolen from them, there’s no telling what these poor fools might do. Best thing for us to do – win big in November; so big that even a lefty who thinks Obama will make the trains run on time understands he was beaten fair and square.
Barone's Projections
Michael Barone gives us some interesting scenarios for the Democrat primary race… Be sure to read the whole thing.
UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: Question for the morning – are the moves by the Democratic leadership to force Hillary out of the race a reflection of their conviction that Obama has won, or their fear that if Obama doesn’t get the nomination, their vote total will collapse in November?
Hillary's Leadership Experience
Who better to help Hillary solve our home lending crisis than a person who sits on the board of a bankrupt lender?
WASHINGTON – Hillary Clinton spends considerable time on the campaign trail bemoaning unscrupulous lenders who have left millions of Americans scrambling to keep their homes but all the while her campaign manager, Margaret “Maggie” Williams, has sat on the board of one of the nation’s once-largest and now-bankrupt sub-prime mortgage lenders.
Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson told FOXNews.com late Sunday that Williams, a longtime Clinton ally, didn’t join Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign as a volunteer until after Delta Financial Corporation — for which Williams is a director — went bankrupt in December 2007.
That’s more than seven years after Williams joined New York-based Delta Financial in 2000. She became a director one month after a federal settlement was reached with the lender over discriminatory lending practices. More recently, Delta has been accused by consumer advocates of pursuing predatory practices throughout the housing boom and bust.
As of September 2007, Williams owned 12,500 shares of Delta’s common stock, and by 2007 had earned at least $175,000 for her board obligations, according to company filings available in the Securities & Exchange Commission online database.
I guess nobody at Clinton, Inc thought to ask, huh?
In Obama’s failure to anticipate that Wright might be a problem and Hillary’s hiring Maggie Williams away from a bankrupt lender we can see a certain pattern emerging about both Democratic candidates – they’re both incompetant managers. No surprise, really – neither of them has ever had to produce an actual result in a day’s work. All they have are words – poll-tested, focus-grouped highly polished words which are designed to prevent the communication of actual information. Given their absolute lack of real world experience, we can expect that either of them – installed in the White House – will just make one after another management mistakes. This is not a supposition – its a promise; they don’t know what they are doing, and will be playthings in the hands of those in their Administration who do know what they are doing.
And the really scary thing? One of them might very well win in November.

A Bad Idea
The Bush Administration is proposing expanding the powers of the Federal Reserve:
The Bush administration is proposing a sweeping overhaul of the way the government regulates the nation’s financial services industry from banks and securities firms to mortgage brokers and insurance companies.
The plan would give major new powers to the Federal Reserve, according to a 22-page executive summary obtained by The Associated Press.
The Fed would be given broad authority to oversee financial market stability. That would include new powers to examine the books of any institution deemed to represent a potential threat to the proper functioning of the overall financial system.
The proposal, which will be outlined Monday in a speech by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, is certain to set off heated debates within different sectors of the financial services industry and in Congress, where some Democrats are likely to complain that the proposal does not go far enough to crack down on abuses.
We need less government regulation… not more… And the fact that Democrats think the proposal doesn’t go far enough is even more scary.
