The Liberal Lie Echo Chamber

Picture this:

Two studies… the conclusion of the first is supportive of the war in Iraq while the conclusion of the second is the opposite. When the first study comes out, liberals topple over each other looking to see who funded the study, tell us we need to “consider the source” in order to determine any biases. But when the second study comes out, they treat it as gospel and find ways to argue that where the money comes from is irrelevant. In other words, liberals don’t want you to “consider the source” if the study supports their position.

That pretty much sums up what is happening with the latest Soros-funded study that claims to document all the so-called “lies” that we were told leading up to the war in Iraq.

It doesn’t take long to find the flaws in the study, and there’s the whole other argument about all the information that contradicts their assertion that statements were lies. But, that doesn’t matter to morons like Keith Olbermann, who I saw on MSNBC moments ago practically in ecstasies over this bogus study.

UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: Thanks to Matt, I was able to take a look at the “study”. Its just a rehash of the usual litany of liberal/left lies about what happened 2001-2003. Future generations will marvel at all this – how millions of people believed a series of lies which accused an honest man – President Bush – of lying.

Another Soros-Funded Study!

It never ceases to amaze me what the Associated Press considers to be newsworthy. They’ve recently reported about a study “by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.”

Who are the two so-called nonprofit organizations? The Center for Public Integrity, and the Fund for Independence in Journalism. And guess what? They’re funded by none other than George Soros. Imagine that.

As bad as it was that the Associated Press thought this was news, the actual “data” for the study is laughable. It might as well have been Media Matters who put the study out.

More at Right Voices.

UPDATE, by Mark Noonan: Does anyone have a link to the actual study? I’ve been trying to find it over at their website with no luck…

UPDATE, by Matt Margolis: Yes, Mark… here’s the link.

Fred Thompson Drops Out

Inevitable for sure… but still shocking, considering all the hype leading up to his entering the race.

Republican Fred Thompson, the actor-politician who attracted more attention as a potential presidential candidate than as a real one, quit the race for the White House on Tuesday after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.

“Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort,” the former Tennessee senator said in a brief statement.

Thompson’s fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.

In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.

Reaction later.

UPDATE: So, what’s my reaction? I’m not sure what to think. I never understood the Fred Fever that boiled in the months leading up to his officially throwing his hat in. But he dominated in our online straw poll, and most bloggers I knew were all for him. I said some months ago that Fred Thompson’s best day happened before he got in the race, and that appears to be the case. While his message may have resonated, his performance otherwise was lacking. The big question now is whom will his supporters turn to now? There’s no simple answer. Thompson came into the race as an alternative to the original slate of candidates… I’m not sure if Thompson’s support was really about Thompson himself or if it was about a desperate desire to find anoint someone as the next Reagan.

Who will this help? Some are saying it will help Huckabee, but I’m not so sure. If it does, than that should be a concern for Rudy Giuliani, who is banking his entire candidacy on Florida and is in 3rd place with 19%, according to the latest Rasmussen poll, with Huckabee at 13%.

The fact is, it is a different race now than it was last fall. Thompson supporters may be more open to the original top tier candidates than they were. I guess we’ll find out soon who is really helped by Thompson’s departure.

Hillary to Iraq: "Screw You!" Obama Supports Preemptive Strikes?

Those may not have been her exact words, but that’s pretty much what she said just a few minutes ago during the Democrats’ debate.

UPDATE, 9:59 PM: Barack Obama just said he would not hesitate to strike against anyone who would do us harm… Sounds like he supports preemptive strikes.

In the end, I have to say, this was a very nasty debate… Aside from the Democrats’ lack of common sense, it was clear that they were not holding back punches tonight. Edwards wasn’t kissing up to Obama tonight. And the attacks from all three were just brutal. I’ve never seen the Republicans get that nasty. Hillary even played the Rezko card on Obama.

Conditional Separation of Church and State?

A Republican can’t go within a block of a church without liberals making a stink about the so-called “separation of church and state.” Liberal pundits will go on TV criticizing, railing against evangelicals and the Religious Right…

So, why is it that Barack Obama can go to an Atlanta church (MLK Jr.’s church) and make a political speech, and I’m not seeing anyone making the same criticisms? Is it okay to embrace and to reach out to churchgoers if you’re a Democrat who supports gay “marriage” and abortion?

Obama's Rezko Problem

Matt and I have been pointing this out for a while – and those of you who read Caucus of Corruption know all about it…but now it gets a bit worse for Obama:

For the first time, Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama has surfaced in the federal corrupton case against his longtime campaign fund-raiser, Tony Rezko, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

The Illinois senator isn’t accused of any wrongdoing. And there’s no evidence Obama knew contributions to his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign came from schemes Rezko is accused of orchestrating.

The allegations against Rezko that involve Obama are contained in one paragraph of a 78-page document filed last month in which prosecutors outline their corruption and fraud case against Rezko, who was also a key money man for Gov. Blagojevich and other politicians.

Rezko is set to go to trial Feb. 25. The revelation that Obama’s name could come up in court is a political headache he doesn’t need as he heads into a round of primaries that are likely to determine his party’s nomination for president.

Obama is not named in the Dec. 21 court document. But a source familiar with the case confirmed that Obama is the unnamed “political candidate” referred to in a section of the document that accuses Rezko of orchestrating a scheme in which a firm hired to handle state teacher pension investments first had to pay $250,000 in “sham” finder’s fees. From that money, $10,000 was donated to Obama’s successful run for the Senate in the name of a Rezko business associate, according to the court filing and the source.

While there is, as the report says, no evidence that Obama knew of these shennigans, the fact that Rezko was part of Obama’s senatorial finance committee puts a very large question mark against Obama – what did he know, when did he know it; and if he didn’t know it, how does that reflect on his executive ability to run a large organization? Rezko, by the way, isn’t just some guy – he’s a long time, close associate of Obama who, amongst other things, pulled off a creepy real estate deal which allowed Obama to buy a swank home at a massive discount. Obama has tried a bit of “Tony who?” since Rezko’s legal problems began, but there is no chance that Obama will really be able to separate himself from Rezko.

There has been much said about what a fresh, new thing Obama is – left out of all this is the very concrete fact that Obama emerges out of Chicago politics. A lot things go into Chicago politics, but “honesty” only gets in there when preceded by “dis”. How deep is Obama into the corruption endemic to Chicago? (Side Note: Why is Chicago so corrupt? Because it is a one-party State, as it were…the Democrats run literally everything in that area and with unchallenged power comes the overwhelming temptation to be corrupt as all get out.) Its unclear – he’s certainly in the muck, but whether its ankle or neck deep on him we haven’t been able to determine.

There is, however, one person who likely knows every last detail about Obama and the Chicago Democratic machine – Hillary Clinton. The longer this race goes on and the more it looks like Hillary won’t be able to wrap it up before the convention, the more likely will “sources” reveal more details of Obama’s past and political connections.

Global Warming Update

As usual when the global warming zealots show up:

It snowed, but they still came. A heavy snowfall blanketed a global warming protest outside the State House in Annapolis this morning, but it did not dampen the shouts of about 400 activists who urged lawmakers to pass the nation’s toughest greenhouse gas control law.

As supporters waved signs, chanted and banged drums, 18 legislators walked down a symbolic green carpet to sign up as co-sporsors to a bill that would mandate that all businesses in Maryland cut emissions of global warming pollution by 25 percent by 2020 and 90 percent by 2050.

“We are going to pass this bill this year,” said State Sen. Paul Pinsky, a Democrat from Prince George’s County and chairman of the senate’s environmental matters subcommittee. “We are not going to rest, we are not going to stop….We are going to keep going until we pass this bill.”

This happens so often that one begins to think that a Power is trying to get something through rather thick, leftwing skulls…be that as it may, there is also this news from Greenland:

Residents insist Greenland’s freezing temperatures don’t mean global warming has been called off

While the rest of Europe is debating the prospects of global warming during an unseasonably mild winter, a brutal cold snap is raging across the semi-autonomous nation of Greenland.

On Disko Bay in western Greenland, where a number of prominent world leaders have visited in recent years to get a first-hand impression of climate change, temperatures have dropped so drastically that the water has frozen over for the first time in a decade.

‘The ice is up to 50cm thick,’ said Henrik Matthiesen, an employee at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute who has also sailed the Greenlandic coastline for the Royal Arctic Line. ‘We’ve had loads of northerly winds since Christmas which has made the area miserably cold.’

Matthiesen suggested the cold weather marked a return to the frigid temperatures common a decade ago.

Gee, almost like its some sort of…well…what would the best word be?…..hmmm…oh, I know: its almost like a cycle; you know, a recurring pattern in weather where sometimes its warming, and sometimes its colder…

Financial Sharks and Liberals – Buddies Forever

Interesting article over at Family Security Matters about the connections between super-rich financial speculators, like George Soros, and the Democratic party – and the vested interest such malefactors of great wealth have in Democratic victory this November.

The Democrats, as well as the larger political left, are in tight with financial sharks like Soros – he wants a world of ultra-liberal social policies, and he’s willing to pay for it…and for all the left’s complaints about “the rich”, they are not at all shy about taking money not just from rich people, but from rich people who got that way by ruthlessly exploiting downturns in the global economy (in other words, they profit most with poor and middle class people suffer). Just another example of leftwing “do as I say, not as I do”.
