obAMATEUR’s Speech? BORING! Nothing New. Just Stale Recycled Ideas ….. Failed Ideas.

When you are in a tight race with your political opponent, you should not recycle a Jobs Act speech that failed to even persuade Democrats in Congress to pass your signature re-election initiative.

But that’s what the obAMATEUR did. After Bill Clinton filled the delegates with what they wanted to hear.  obAMATEUR took to the stage and reduced, reused, and recycled old states of the union speeches that have failed him for four years.

It was boring. It was unoriginal. And it was filled with more empty promises. Remember, he promised to cut the deficit in half  or he would be a one term pResident.  Clint Eastwood’s empty chair could have given a better speech than what obAMATEUR read from the teleprompter last night. And to think he wanted to give that in a 80,000 seat stadium!

This was a safe speech you give when you have a lead. This was not a speech you give in a tight race. Don’t believe me? Here are excerpts from his past States of the Union and Jobs Act speech. Lots of platitude, lots of rhetoric, little in detail, and a lot of worn out lines that have failed him before.

Listen to these lines. This speech was unoriginal. He stacked it with straw men and ignored his own two major initiatives from the first term: Obamacare and the Stimulus.

This was a failure and you know it was because he failed to even bring up his own major initiatives. On Obamacare, he mentioned parts of it, but never defended it or referenced the “Affordable Care Act” (Affordable? Rates have risen more dramatically than they would have without obAMACARE).

His only “accomplishment”, his gold ring (at least it was a couple of years ago) and he does not mention it?  He does not tout it?

As I have said before, he is fulfilling his own statement.  When you have no accomplishments, no record on which to run, there is nothing to do in a campaign but attack, obfuscate and LIE! (and please velma do not write AGAIN, “you would not acknowledge the President’s accomplishments” – LIST AND DEFEND THEM).

In short, the speech was PATHETIC.

Didn’t somebody mention bin laden not being better off now than he was four years ago. (All credit to the United States Navy Seals and all those service members who supported that mission) They do have that. Somewhat.

Yeah. And Krauthammer also stated that the weather can be predicted 100 days in advance. In social media news, 9.5 million tweets during the DNC. RNC? Not so much. Most speeches: top 3 go to The President, his wife (a witch who can make Mark nauseous telepathically) and Bill Clinton. Romney gets an honorable mention at 5th. And lets not forget the Sarah Palin. What a staggering intellect! Surprised that John Kerry even knew her name! Guess she forgot she was on a national ticket 4 yrs ago. Like Forest Gump said “…it’s a household name.”

If speeches were the mark of a good President, Obama may be considered one of the best ever. Lord knows he has lectured us quite a bit over the last few years, but unfortunately, that is just not the case. And considering you ally with a party that has Joe Biden as second in charge, I hardly think you have any room to criticize anyone’s intellect.

        Just saying.

What a hoot. Rush is playing clips of Carter’s 1980 acceptance speech and Obama’s speech from last night — almost identical. I’ll ask the same question Rush asked: Obama could have used language from FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Clinton, hell, even LBJ, but he chose to channel the loser, Carter. Why?

“but he chose to channel the loser, Carter. Why?”

Because he is trying to live up to Carter. That is as high as he can get! Carter is doing cartwheels right now. He is suddenly not the worst pResident in history!!!

Reagan was able to recover the horrible economy that was handed to him. Did you see Reagan whine about the state of the economy the way this pResident has? Nope. Reagan knew he had to get to work and fix that debacle created by Carter. He was able to get it on the right track in one term. He also had lower energy prices which meant more disposable income for many Americans. obAMATEUR doubled down on Carter (and every proggy policy) and predictably FAILED! Instead of trying to lower energy prices, obAMATEUR continued with his fantasy of “green energy” and look where it led us!

You would think DEMOCRATS would learn from their mistakes. Nope. obAMATEUR’s speech was more of the same failed crap that got us into this mess and stifled what little recovery we were getting.

But to your question, and it is a reasonable question. Romney was my first choice in 2008. I believe he’s a really decent man who understands how success is achieved. And if there’s anything this country needs right now, it’s success. Success breeds more success, which provides the funds for government to operate. Romney not only applauds success, he epitomizes success. Obama demonizes and punishes success. Now, gee, which one do we want to get us out of this mess?

velma, of course, nothing will make a difference in your vote. You are a loyal and good lttle mindless drone, very dependable to the DEMOCRATS.

obAMATEUR’s platform and speech is more of the same crap that has been put into place the last four years. I remember when obAMATEUR said accumulating $4 trillion in debt in eight years was irresponsible and unpatriotic and the mindless drones regurgitated that repeatedly. Now that obAMATEUR has spent $5 trillion in four years the drones have become silent and obAMATEUR considers accumulating so much debt a good thing that he has accomplished.

I notice you are not listing what obAMATEUR’s accomplishments were and are not defending them. Nor are you defending his pathetic platform. Like I said, nothing will deter you from checking the box next to the D on the presidential ballot form.

    • Caveat Emptor September 7, 2012 / 8:04 pm

Most of the left loved this speech????

The Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky declares the speech “pedestrian” and “overconfident,” and wonders whether Obama just let the air out of the balloon.

“This speech felt very safe to me. It’s the speech you give when you think you’re winning.” Ezra Klein

“If I were an independent voter watching his speech I’d have headed into the kitchen for a snack a minute into his delivery.” Andy Ostroy Huffington Post

“The demigod turned out to be entirely human, and his results were disappointing. On Thursday night, as Obama admitted to “failings,” Democrats who dreamed of the biggest and the best in 2008 were learning to accept good enough.” Dana Milbank

“It was just so moving, so emotional, to be just one individual in a sea of Democrats,” delegate Bionca Gambill of Terra Haute told me, recalling that night at Invesco Field. “There were a lot of people in tears.” But this year, “you don’t have that magic,” she said. “We need to find some of that energy. I don’t think we can find 100 percent of it.”

“Obama was, to be charitable, no more than the third best of the Democratic convention’s prime time speakers in 2012.”” Kevin Drum mother Jones

Certainly not the best speech of this convention,” James Carville

Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) said Obama didn’t need to fly high. “I just thought it was somewhere in the middle of his speeches. On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 6 or 7,” Clay said.

Yeah, the libiots were all over this speech.

So what cappy, 5 million more heard a speech without substance! Wow, just because more people heard obAMATEUR’s speech than Romney’s doesn’t mean squat! It just means that 5 million more people were disappointed at the end of the night. You are easily impressed with numbers but you don’t know what they mean. It was like 5 million more people from the other team tuned into the game only to watch their team lose.

But you just keep believing what you want, the speech was still without substance and there are many people disappointed on the left.

  17. bardolf September 7, 2012 / 7:07 pm

“Nice try, Dave. Romney donated his inheritance to charity and started from scratch.”- Spook

First. Obama got into the Ivy League as a legacy with no obvious hard work to justify entry. His entire career is made up of people pushing him to new heights, where he took no risk, stole legislation when convenient, ran against candidates that had been humiliated in the press or forced to drop out via unseemly voter control. There is 0 evidence Obama has worked 1/10th as hard as Romney.

With that said, the idea that Romney started from scratch is crazy. At 48 years of age, an already wealthy Mitt donated his inheritance to BYU’s George W. Romney Institute of Public Management. How is this ‘starting from scratch’?

How is going to a private prep school, then to BYU where his ‘investments’ kept him from needing to take a job, to having his dad finance a house at a cheap rate in Boston so again he wouldn’t have to work while at Harvard starting from scratch?

I’m positive that Romney worked super hard at Harvard, but that’s true for 50% of Ivy league students. He was fortunate to be in a novel program where he could earn 2 degrees which opened up huge doors from the recruiters which led to big paydays.

Romney isn’t junior from the middle class. He went to an exclusive prep high school, didn’t work as an undergrad which helped his acceleration, used his grades + name recognition to get into an exclusive JD/MBA program at Harvard and used that to get the million dollar job he had at Bain.

He worked hard, he didn’t start from scratch. With the prep school alone he is well ahead of the opportunities available to the middle class.

    • Retired Spook September 7, 2012 / 8:34 pm

Yeah, Dolf — my bad. George Romney didn’t die until the mid-90’s, shortly before Mitt left Bain. Mitt and his partners did, however, pretty much start Bain from scratch in 1984 with the blessing of their boss, Bill Bain at Bain & Company, spending nearly a year raising somewhere between $35 and $40 million in start-up capital.

    • Amazona September 9, 2012 / 5:47 pm

Spook, keep in mind that dolf has often posted his surly resentment of prep school guys and the dreaded “silver spoon syndrome”.

Basically, anyone born to parents who are smarter than average, or more successful than average, can never in any way for any accomplishment be given any credit for anything, because they have some kind of unfair advantage of intelligence or education or good example of successful work ethic or whatever.

This, by the way, does not apply to dolf, who was born with above average math ability, and to parents who encouraged this throughout his school years. That is different. That is not an unearned advantage. That is dolf, and he is special, with different standards applied to him.

But ANYONE ELSE with an unearned advantage has to be brought down to what he seems to think is an acceptable level.

This is the new philosophy of too many of the surly in this country—they do not look at people who have accomplished more than they have and see them as inspirations, role models, proof of what people can accomplish. They do not strive to rise to their level, but rather to bring them down to their own.

It is quite distasteful to watch.

  18. casper September 8, 2012 / 6:14 pm

Goggle Reports that the number of searches for “register to vote” doubled nationwide at the end of Obama’s speech. Guess he inspired someone.

    • tiredoflibbs September 8, 2012 / 10:50 pm

      “Guess he inspired someone.”

      Inspired how?

Register to vote for or against? You can’t tell!

That proves nothing. Those in his own party said it was a horrible speech.

As I said, cappy, you are easily swayed by numbers and not their meaning.

      • casper September 8, 2012 / 11:28 pm

A few people in his party might have said that, but most of the people I’ve talked to were pretty happy with his speech.
Most of his speeches in the past have been so great, that the expectations for him are higher than for most politicians.

“Register to vote for or against? You can’t tell!”

Since it was the Democratic convention, I’m guessing that most want to vote for him. That would also be confirmed by the bounce he has received in the polls.

“As I said, cappy, you are easily swayed by numbers and not their meaning.”

What I’m swayed by are facts.

      • tiredoflibbs September 9, 2012 / 6:46 am

cappy: “What I’m swayed by are facts.” and just previously stated, “..I’m guessing that most want to vote for him.”

Guessing are facts? The only facts you know are that the Democrats just had a convention and that more people registered to vote. Neither implies that all those who registered were motivated by his speech and that they all registered to vote FOR him.

What you did was ASSUME. And you do know what ASSume means? You were guessing, with no FACTS to back up your guess and ASSumption.

The “bounce” obAMATEUR received was at best 2 points. Not really a bounce. The ants scraped their knees on that little bump. The convention was expected to give him a “bump” regardless of the outcome. Even McCain received a bump in the polls after the convention.

“Most of his speeches in the past have been so great, that the expectations for him are higher than for most politicians.”
Those are in the past. And as I stated this was a SAFE speech. A safe speech is what you use when you are behind as many DEMOCRAT pundits also stated.

As they have also said, the speech was BORING and contained NOTHING NEW. More of the same old recycle blather that will be heavy on promises to buy more votes with taxpayer money. The source of the “bump” if you will. This was not a speech to match his “FORWARD” theme of propaganda.
