Europe Funds al-Qaeda

Via ransom for kidnap victims:

BAMAKO, Mali — The cash filled three suitcases: 5 million euros.

The German official charged with delivering this cargo arrived here aboard a nearly empty military plane and was whisked away to a secret meeting with the president of Mali, who had offered Europe a face-saving solution to a vexing problem.

Officially, Germany had budgeted the money as humanitarian aid for the poor, landlocked nation of Mali.

The suitcases were loaded onto pickup trucks and driven hundreds of miles north into the Sahara, where the bearded fighters, who would soon become an official arm of Al Qaeda, counted the money on a blanket thrown on the sand. The 2003 episode was a learning experience for both sides. Eleven years later, the handoff in Bamako has become a well-rehearsed ritual, one of dozens of such transactions repeated all over the world…

$66 million was paid to the terrorists just in 2013 and the going rate for an European has soared from $200,000 in 2003 to $10 million in 2013. Its good business.  Criminal gangs appear to do the actual job – the kidnappings – while third party cut-outs arrange the ransom, everyone getting a cut, of course (and I’ll bet government officials in some of these Third World back waters also get a pay off to ensure the local constabulary stays out of the way).

As for why its Europeans – Europe has money; Europe is closer, Europeans are nitwit enough to travel to Muslim lands under the impression – carefully fostered by the European Ruling Class – that Muslim societies are just swell and, of course, it is highly unlikely that an European Special Forces soldier will provide a bullet for the kidnapper instead of the ransom money.  This is partially because European military forces are laughably small these days but mostly because no one in Europe has the will to fight.  As this is just on the 100th anniversary of the First World War, I think it worthwhile to note that the war – and WWII – seems to have killed the European strain which had any spirit, at all.

It is disgraceful and it is also unstoppable, as long as the terrorists don’t get too greedy.  It’ll only stop if the terrorists get better sources of funding, or have enough for the needs for some considerable period of time. There is zero chance that a forceful action by Europe – or even just a flat refusal to pay – will happen.  To be sure, the flat refusal would result in the deaths of those who are currently captive – and likely one or two more sets as the terrorists test resolve – but once you stop paying, eventually the kidnappers stop kidnapping.  But the craven Ruling Class of Europe won’t do that – they won’t fight because they’ve got no guts, and they won’t stop paying because they don’t want to risk popular outrage as You Tube videos of European kidnap victims getting beheaded become common.

Absent Divine intervention, Europe is doomed – unless there is a reconversion of that continent to Christianity in sufficient numbers to control things, Europe will just continue to flabbily go down to destruction.  A people which is bribing the barbarians to peace – as the Romans started to do in the 3rd century – is a people that is doomed.

Bottom line – there’s not enough dead terrorists.

Someone asked why the world is getting so nasty – it is because the decent people of the world aren’t shooting enough of the nasty people. People who have decided not to follow God and his laws will be as nasty as they think the can get away with.

The problem is, these people say they are following God. Their God at least, and we as Christians are on the wrong side of that equation, so getting into a religious quarrel with them is pointless. They must be treated simply for the scum of the earth that they are, and called out for the barbaric, violent and oppressive conditions they exist under. Any society that straps bombs on their children in the name of a Holy War, should not have a place in this world. Any society that stones their women to death for infidelity, should not have a place in this world. Any society that denies the right of another to exist simply because of their heritage and ethnicity, should not have a place in this world. Personally, I think we need to be much more active in fulfilling their wishes of meeting Mohammed. I am a fan of Obama’s use of drones and wish that he would continue. We also should have never let 5 terrorists get away in the Bergdahl trade. Once Bergdahl was released and secured, we should have executed those terrorists while on the plane back home and throne them in the ocean. Hey – accidents happen. If we are to ever get the upper hand in this battle against Islamic extremism, we will have to be more brutal then they are. And we will have to take the same approach to fighting drug cartels.

From the movie the Untouchables – “they put one of ours in the hospital, we put one of theirs in the morgue”

Our usual caveat of “not all Muslims” is, of course, true – most Muslims aren’t like that (though, in my view, given that they believe a heresy they are prone to error; and as their heresy is very fundamental, they often get things fundamentally wrong). But Islam has largely been taken over by some pretty bad people – even the best of the leadership is pretty lousy, while the worst is just hideous. But I say they are not following God – even a wrong interpretation of God – but their own sick desires. That is the thing – I don’t buy this holy war bullsh** from the jihadist leaders. If Osama bin Laden really felt he was doing God’s will by sending planes crashing into buildings, he would have been the pilot of the lead plane. Its as simple as that – when I try to do God’s will, I don’t ask you to go work at the soup kitchen – I do a turn at it, myself. All of these Muslim leaders are like that – proclaiming their devotion to God and claiming that God wants it this way…but none of them seem to want to get on the firing line. And, of course, we’ve all heard of the massive corruption in these jihadist leaders and the vast sums they salt away, stolen from the poor people of the Muslim world.

Now, to be sure, the Muslim leaders have gone a degree or two worse than those in the west who refuse to actually follow God – but I believe that is only temporary, and in the United States they won’t take that last step because too many of us have guns. But the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe shows where this is heading.

You will get no argument from me, but we do have to get everyone on board to defeat this radicalism and that will include the secular crowd, so I don’t think coming at this from a Christian perspective is the right approach. I think everyone can agree that stoning women to death, killing infidels, strapping bombs to children, blowing up commuter trains, and wanting to “wipe Israel off the map” needs to be stopped. And that doesn’t mean giving these criminals “due process” – it means eliminating them. Or as Tony Soprano would say – “take care of it”

I don’t think we can discount the fact that there is a large segment of society, at least in the Western world, which benefits by undermining and eventually destroying decency.

I am not saying the sheeple, the mindless minions such as those who try to pollute this blog, have the destruction of decency as a goal. They are, instead, like the very very young who find it darling and precious to challenge the rules, who have never outgrown this infantile glee in flipping off people and trying to shock them. They, for some reason, feel that rejecting the standards of their society makes them cooler, so they scoff at old values and preen in their imagined superiority as they attack the very standards that formed the comfortable world they live in, the world that gives them the freedom to try to unmake it.

But those of us who study history know that the most clear and obvious pattern in the Leftist pursuit of power is the undermining and destroying of the most basic constructs of a civil society, because the Left cannot survive, much less flourish, in a society which honors God, is centered on the family, and which has a strong commitment to basic moral values. This is why we see, time after time, efforts to undermine faith by ridicule and constant attack. This is why we see efforts to weaken the influence of the family. Hitler sent children to camps where they could be indoctrinated, and encouraged them to spy on their families and report them for offenses against the State. In the United States, we tell our children they can’t trust or turn to their parents if they have problems, such as pregnancy, but should turn to those who really care for them—–agents of the State——and who encourage them to report their families for various “offenses” such as parental discipline.

And we see the Left working to change moral and societal values in the most effective way possible, changing the very culture of the nation by swamping it with messages cloaked as “entertainment”. We have every minute of every day filled with messages that crudity, crassness, vulgarity, promiscuity, drug use, alcohol abuse, infidelity, illegitimacy, illegality and immorality are really cool, really what makes us special and unique. The messages of our popular culture are, almost universally, that we should find the “old” ways ridiculous if not repellent, and should reject them, turn our backs on silly things like marriage being a covenant between one man and one woman, and adopt the Brave New World concept of “if it feels good, do it”.

We have gone through decades of ridicule and erosion of respect for the very things that held us together as a culture and made us strong as a nation——faith in God, love of and loyalty to family, respect for our Constitution, love of our country, and belief in the need for moral values as a framework for our society. Each and every one of these things has been under attack from the Left, and with great and frightening success.

We now have a couple of generations which do not even think that words have meanings, but that they can mean whatever the speaker says they mean at any given time. This manipulation of the most basic understanding of language has made it possible for people to accept things like referring to Islam as a “religion of peace” when it openly preaches—-demands—–violence. The lack of structure in our very language makes our culture wobbly and easy to topple.

An addendum to my previous post: I said “….the Left cannot survive, much less flourish, in a society which honors God, is centered on the family, and which has a strong commitment to basic moral values.”

After I thought about it, I realized that the Left CAN prevail to some extent even in these circumstances, if they can just succeed in redefining terms enough to let people subvert the Constitution while still claiming to support it, still love their families but believe that turning over much of the responsibility for those families is in their best interest, and go to churches which preach Leftist social engineering concepts which tell them that their faith is best exhibited by engaging in Leftist practices and beliefs.

And as long as the Left continues its success in convincing people that they are really voting for issues instead of for political systems, they can garner all the votes they need without the voters ever realizing that they have just voted, not for the ability to use a certain word or for autonomy for women but for a restrictive, tyrannical, and eventually brutal system of governance.

The sad/funny part is that all the while they are enabling an illiberal, regressive, political model and giving it the power to rule their lives, they are patting themselves on the back for being so PROgressive and Liberal.

As Jonah Goldberg said; “Our manners, morals, technology, language, culture come to us on an assembly line that stretches off into prehistory with laborers in animal skins at the front and lab coats at the end.”

So if we have a structure for our culture that is the end result of centuries/millennia of development, it is not a static artifact but something that is organic, in process. Which means that the people in “lab coats” can divert the stream of development into new directions if there are enough of them and there is no opposing force to keep from shifting into a new direction.

Some of us look at what has evolved/developed and we are pleased with where we are now, seeing it as a natural outcome of improvement. We have come to realize the evils of slavery, for example. We see women as equals, who can own property and vote and run big companies. The “assembly line” has gradually winnowed out many of the defects in human culture, and in our nation at least developed a system of governance that is built on the innate rights of the individual, on personal responsibility along with personal freedom.

But we are seeing a lot of those “lab coats” trying to divert the stream of improvements to loop around to old systems, which were based on denying individual freedom. If they lie enough about the existing structure they can convince some that it is bad and that theirs is better, though to do this they also have to keep people from examining theirs. So they dress it up in fancy clothes, words like “equality” and “hope” and “change”, and employ various strategies of deceit and distraction, and slander and libel those who see what is happening and try to call attention to it.

David Horowitz has written about and spoken about his experiences with “moderate Muslims” and it is chilling.

His college speeches are routinely attended by “moderate” Muslims who participate in a question and answer segment and always challenge him on his view of the religion and those who practice it. He asks them all the same question.

He quotes a Muslim leader who asked all Jews to return to Israel so Muslims could kill them all in one place and not have to hunt them down all over the world. He asks the “moderate” Muslim if he or she agrees, or disagrees, with this statement.

So far they have all admitted to agreeing with it.

And these are the “moderate” Muslims, the ones who want to educate us about the Religion of Peace.

Every Muslim has made a choice to belong to and practice a religion which demands that they kill those who do not also belong to and practice it. That is their CHOICE. What else about the religion appeals? Is it just that it allows people to worship God without believing that Jesus was the Son of God? Judaism does that. So what is it about Islam that makes so many millions of people CHOOSE it over every other religion, knowing that it seethes with hatred and violence, knowing that it is demeaning to women, knowing that its most basic command is to force the entire world to accept it or die?

I say it is a pathology. Of the more than 1600 Christian religions in the world, Judaism, Hinduism, Wicca, whatever, only one demands of its followers that they accept the absolute right, the absolute DEMAND, that they kill those who do not agree with them. Even those who deny the existence of God do not have a Rule Of Atheists that they must kill those who do. No other religion demands that it dominate the whole world.

So I have to conclude that Islam is a pathology, as well as a political movement. As you said, Mark, “But I say they are not following God – even a wrong interpretation of God – but their own sick desires.” One who desires peace does not adopt a religion based on hatred and violence. Only people whose hearts demand validation for their own inner hatreds will seek out and adopt a “religion” which not only gives permission to hate, permission to kill, but asks for hatred and killing.

At the end of the Chronicles of Narnia series, a young man who had followed the false god Tash finds himself , at the end of the world, in the presence of Aslan, the true god (and the metaphor for Christ) and he is amazed to be there, because he had not followed Aslan. He was told: ”………no service which is vile can be done to me, and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oath’s sake, it is by me that he has truly sworn, though he know it not, and it is I who reward him. And if any man do a cruelty in my name, then, though he says the name Aslan, it is Tash whom he serves and by Tash his deed is accepted.

I believe this—-that any evil done, even if claimed to be in the name of God, is truly in the name of Satan, and is pursuit of evil.
