Arbitrary government operating by force, by terror, must destroy the best, the boldest dissenters in sheer self-defence; soon it finds itself destroying all who, on the one hand, do not actively assist it or, on the other, do not passively submit. – Edward Crankshaw
In other words, if you won’t have a government of laws and customs, then you simply must destroy the very best people you have…those who think in the boldest terms and seek to do the best. Arbitrary government cannot exist except when everyone is beaten down…and mindless, bureaucratic hacks are free to just grind away.
A strict – even Draconian – legal code is no problem, at all. If you know what the law is and if the law applies equally to all, then we all know where we stand. We can take care. We can take evasive action. We’re fine, even if rather inconvenienced. But when what the law is resides in the merest whim of those who enforce the laws, then no one really knows the law – no one knows what may be done, or what may bring punishment. People become fearful, dissent and innovation dry up…and the world is left to those who enjoy wielding arbitrary power (and make no mistake about it, some people do enjoy it…such people exist in all societies…and an arbitrary society just brings such people out of the woodwork in droves).
What we saw in Wisconsin is an example of arbitrary law – even if one wants to believe that Walker supporters were breaking the law, it was still an arbitrary enforcement…and done with such crude (disgusting, actually) force that everyone involved in right of center politics in Wisconsin became fearful. What our liberals – who are still mostly silent on the issue – don’t realize is that while they might think it good for such things to be done to conservatives, they will eventually be done to liberals, as well. People who like to arbitrarily enforce laws in a cruel manner never get tired of it – and when the enemies are all destroyed, they simply go after the friends, as well. You see, once you’ve got people empowered to do whatever they wish, they’ll do it – and, indeed, they have to, in a sense. If all the enemies are disposed of and it is now time to close up shop, that forces a bunch of people off the government gravy-train. They’ll invent new enemies as needed in order to justify their continues bureaucratic existence.
The lesson for all of us here – left and right – is strict rules strictly enforced. There is no half-way house. It is liberty or tyranny – no shading in between. We, as a people, must demand that our government officials scrupulously follow the rules…and if we find a gap in the rules, then we must fix it, and the government must follow the new rules, as well.
To that end, we must also abolish executive orders, unratified treaties wielded as laws and using unappropriated funds, and also regulations enforced as law by unelected departments acting outside of their mandates, authority and funding. None of these represent the will of the people and all misappropriate taxpayer dollars. ,
I think eventually we’ll get to a tipping point where the urge for freedom will outweigh the desire for free stuff. I don’t know whether it will be initiated by an economic upheaval, a social upheaval or simply a majority of people shouting, “ENOUGH!”, but I’m pretty confident that it’s going to happen in my lifetime. It has to happen, because, if it doesn’t, there’s nowhere to escape to and no one to come to our rescue.
71 cents out of every tax dollar now goes to entitlements so it will definitely be an economic upheaval that ignites the turn around or we will surely fall into bankruptcy. The days of lying and spinning about irresponsible spending and half billion dollar deficits must come to pass. The damage Obama has brought upon us over the last 6 years both on domestic and foreign fronts may take generations to undo, and it was all driven by the childish desire for economic justice and a President with the politically correct skin color.
This could get interesting.
“Intervene” how? Force kids to take the test at gun point? That should be fun to watch. The tipping point I spoke of may be coming sooner rather than later.
I think the Clinton’s also operate very well within the confines of arbitrary law. They just make up their own rules and demonize anyone who opposes them. Can you imagine if the Koch Bros. brokered a deal with Russia and Uranium One placing 20% of US uranium holdings into Russian control and then destroyed the server that contained their emails?????
The corruption that the Clinton’s are involved in is mind boggling, and the wealth they have amassed over the last 10 years is jaw dropping. I think it is to the point now that even the left can’t deny it.
And it seems as though there might be a new opportunity for the Clinton Foundation to exploit. Hello Nepal.
The gay left is now so intolerant that it turns itself on members of its own community, cannibalizing those who dare respect differences in belief and embrace independent thought. They have become the Mongol hordes.
Interesting article and reason why the left MUST be destroyed

Cluster,
This issue and how it’s resolved will, IMO, be one of the defining moments of the early 21st century. I don’t think the gay Left has any idea of the rage that’s building against them. I think they believe most Christians will simply turn the other cheek no matter what tenets of their faith they’re asked, no, make that demanded to violate because that’s what the Bible teaches. Some will, but, speaking just for myself, I will be one of the ones who won’t.
I think the militant left on this gay issue though is not the entire fault of gays. I think there are a lot of just ordinary, run of the mill leftists who use this issue to be vile, to hate Christians and to push an agenda. I know and have known quite a few gays and the folks that I knew anyway were some very decent. tolerant people.
I would agree that it isn’t necessarily gays who are exclusively at the front of this movement, but I would disagree that those who aren’t gay are just “ordinary, run off the mill leftists”. There’s nothing ordinary or run of the mill about the intolerance and vicious hatred that is aimed primarily at Christians. I say that from close experience. My niece is gay, and her mother (my wife’s sister) is way more hateful of anything that is even remotely anti-gay than her daughter is. I mean she thinks that people who eat at Chick fil A are evil.
🙂 Well then I have certainly been evil lately. I love Chick fil A.
If you want to check out the smart, wonderful gay point of view, go to Twitter and just review @gaypatriot. Now, dig this, the man is gay and so he’ll have some different views from some of us from time to time…not that any of us on the right will particularly care, of course. Naturally, the man is routinely attacked by leftists of various types. Not too long ago I even saw a lefty try to assert that Gay Patriot isn’t gay!
Oh, well.
We really saw it, though, when Jenner came out of the closet – not as gay/transgendered, but as Republican and Christian! It was a stunning 180! Literal seconds from “Brave Jenner!” to the most horrific insults being hurled at him. Including what our lefties would consider homophobic slurs…and all from the left (yeah, I bet if you troll the feed long enough you’ll find a few rude people who claim to be of the right…but the insults were overwhelmingly from the left). Regardless of how we on the right view the wisdom of such things, our basic view is that Jenner’s life is Jenner’s life…he’s free to live it as he thinks best and all accounts will be squared in the End, without any input, at all, from us (we’ll be too busy squaring our own accounts – and failing miserably at it, in any event, and just like everyone else, relying entirely upon the mercy of Our Lord).
It is getting really bad out there. We’ll see how it comes out – but I think a turning is shortly to arrive.
I think the gay community is actually starting to figure out who the tolerant people really are. And it’s not the leftists.

That is not at all unlike ISIS killing other Muslims because they aren’t “Muslim enough”, or blacks persecuting conservative blacks because they aren’t “black enough”. Sooner or late something has to give. We either find a leader who can do what Obama promised, but didn’t deliver on — bring people together, or we’re going to be fighting each other in the streets. I would certainly prefer the former, but I’m rapidly getting to the point where I’m not all that adverse to the latter.
That is not unlike the pizzeria who stated that they could not cater a gay wedding with the result of the gay leftists to issue arson and death threats and force them to close down. While a Muslim bakery owner, who tells a “gay” person (undercover sting reporter) who inquired about wedding cakes, “I could not do that”, was not threatened in any way after the video clip was released. Plus, the media paid zero attention to this bakery. The targets are arbitrary – well not so much. It is really “ATTACK CHRISTIANS AND CONSERVATIVES” and leave everyone else alone.

Over the last few days the most common question among news reporters and talking heads is, if it turns out that the Clintons have engaged in illegal and/or unethical conduct through either their foundation or speeches, or a combination of both, DOES IT MATTER TO HILLARY’S CAMPAIGN? Often the answer is, no, it doesn’t matter.
Let that sink in a bit. It’s one thing to believe in someone and vote for them while overlooking their weaknesses and shortcomings. I think that’s essentially how Bill Clinton got elected twice, although even then a lot of alleged criminal activity during his terms as Arkansas Governor got swept under the rug. But it’s quite different to know up front that someone has engaged in criminal behavior and STILL VOTE FOR THEM. Is that what we’ve sunk to as a nation, to deliberately install criminals as our leaders? I dislike Elizabeth Warren, but at least she’s honest about who she is (well, OK, not WHO she is), and what she believes and the kind of government she advocates. And I’m not aware that she’s engaged in, or has even been accused of engaging in any illegal behavior. In fact, Warren and Bernie Sanders are about the only two potential candidates on the Democrat side who ARE honest about what they believe WRT the role of the federal government. That’s pretty sad, but speaks volumes about the current makeup of the Democrat Party. At least the good thing is that they no longer command majority support, and the farther left they lurch, the less popular they are.
If Warren was elected, would she be our first Native American President? Anymore these days it requires a “willing suspension of disbelief” to be a liberal Democrat:
– they must believe that Hillary and her lawyer did hand over all appropriate emails and that destroying the server is standard protocol.
– they must believe that Bill’s half million dollar speeches were not tied to any government favors or business arrangements despite the overwhelming circumstantial evidence.
– they must believe that the Clinton’s extraordinary wealth gained over the last ten years was well deserved and does not make them “rich” or “out of touch”
– they must believe that Hillary’s reset button with Putin was a success and that Assad really is a reformer
– they must believe that “hands up don’t shoot” really did happen
– they must believe that rapes happen all the time on college campuses
– they must believe that life begins sometime in the first grade
– they must believe that global warming is a much bigger threat than a radical ideology that burns people alive
– they must believe that ridiculing Christians and trying to shut down their business is being tolerant.
– they must believe that the economy is much improved despite an historical low participation rate and anemic GDP growth
Please feel free to add your own.
I think you’ve nailed the important ones, but, in reality, the list is nearly endless.
I think the following statement found on twitter sums up really well the current state of Democrats:
We are so diverse we can’t tolerate a guy who disagrees with us
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. The real question is, how will their intolerance manifest itself? Will they continue to use the power of government to force people to acquiesce? What happens when their targets simple tell them to piss off? What happens if you get sued by a gay couple and you just ignore the lawsuit? Do you get fined? What happens if you ignore the fine? Do you get thrown in jail? What happens if you use lethal force to resist being thrown in jail? If the Left doesn’t back off, we may be finding out the answers to all those questions? Sooner or later someone is going to decide that they don’t want to live in a country where an aberrant minority can force people of faith to violate that faith, and they’re going to decide that it’s worth laying down their life to make a statement. Once it happens, the floodgate is going to open. Just my 2 cents worth.
They must abandon truth and reality while ignoring or denying their complete hypocrisy.

What could possibly go wrong with this?
Same thing they did for police and firefighters – when women can’t make the cut, change what makes the cut because we all need to be equal, right?
It is something dangerous politically, but a future GOP President will have to change it – and he’d better get it codified into law: physical and mental standards are to be set and anyone who can’t meet them simply cannot be taken on. It will mean a rather rapid drop in female military participation (remember, women were allowed into the Army and such with lower standards because women when initially allowed in were not to be placed in combat – now we can’t get back to a place where women are out of battle…so they’ll have to be battle-ready, or not in, at all).
As an aside, friend of mine came up with the idea of reducing the Army to 150,000 (and I mentally add, reduce the Marines to 25,000) but train all of them up to Special Forces standards. I kinda like the idea – we’d need people who are in top physical shape, of course, but in a nation of more than 300 million people, we’d find them. An Army like that would be able to take down any Third World nation in a matter of days – and if we ever go to war with a First World nation, again, then we’d have my idea of a revived Militia to draw upon and be trained up to good standards by the active Army.
The plus side of a physically inferior military is that, when the SHTF they won’t be much of a threat if they’re ordered to turn on the American people. The plus side of your idea is that there won’t be hundreds of thousands of badly trained, physically inferior young people for the Leftist elites to use as cannon fodder in a civil insurrection. And the caliber of people who would be part of the elite reduced Army/Marine force wouldn’t be nearly as likely to turn on other Americans, and, even if they did, the numbers wouldn’t be sufficient to take on just the registered and armed hunters in any midwestern state. I’m sensing that political correctness may lead to the Left’s own self-imposed defeat. Talk about poetic justice.
On a side note — can you imagine even having this conversation 10 or 15 years ago?
I can’t remember an unintended consequence stemming from progressive policies that was more stark than this. And for those who think I’m being partisan about this, I’m fully aware that George Bush was a big cheer leader for home ownership. It wasn’t Bush, however, who put the policies and banking legislation in place, although much of that was also a bi-partisan effort, and I’m every bit as much of a critic of progressive Republicans as I am progressive Democrats. At the end of the day the Progressive agenda has resulted in anything but progress.
The lack of self awareness amongst progressives is nothing less than astonishing. The morons at MSNBC the other day were essentially admitting that progressive policies have failed when they were citing the lack of opportunity for the Baltimore rioters, citing the poor living conditions, lack of jobs, etc., etc, without one single mention of the fact that Obama has spent $8 trillion dollars over the last 6 years and promised a “fair shake”, and that Baltimore is an urban center that stands as a beacon for Democrats – what happened????
Additionally there is this statement from a progressive claiming that he made up the story of Harry Reids brother beating him up, just to see if conservatives would run with it –
“It was just so outrageous,” he said. “The fact that someone can say something completely false that can destroy somebody’s life, it’s just wrong. Where’s the moral compass?”
Now correct me if I am wrong but didn’t Harry Reid completely fabricate a story that Romney had not paid taxes and progressives everywhere ran with the story without a single shred of evidence?
I am no longer interested in debating progressives. I am only interested in shaming them and accelerating their demise with whatever means possible.
This is priceless:
MSNBC’s far-leftism is particulary painful to watch — so painful that it’s hard to imagine anyone other than a critic voluntarily watching it. One of the more egregious recent examples of far-left lunacy occurred this weekend on tax scofflaw Melissa Harris-Perry’s show, where a guest actually said that “you don’t have to have a white person around to have white supremacy play out.” Thus, Baltimore’s descent into lawlessness, despite having entirely black leadership, is still apparently whites’ fault.
I knew it when I first saw “institutional racism” back in the 80s that it was going to be kept going – they have to keep it going. If it doesn’t exist, a lot of people would have to get jobs in the real world. The thing about it is that you can never disprove it – you cannot demonstrate existentially that racial animus didn’t play a role in any particular incident.
