The Real World vs TV Reality

The other day Ace wrote a bit about this friend of his who is a SJW nutcase (I can’t remember which article it was: I searched a bit, but he’s been busy lately and so there’s a lot of articles – I couldn’t find the one) who simply didn’t believe that transgender women (ie, former men) were being allowed to compete against women. Until there was finally a small news story about it, and then she grudgingly admitted it happened, but was sure it was being exaggerated by Faux News. Ace pointed out that she didn’t believe it because the news she listens to simply never told her about it. That got me thinking: it explains a lot.

I get into Twitter and other arguments with liberals and one of their common assertions is that I should turn off “Faux News” and find out what is really going on. I never thought too much of it because I don’t watch Fox News. Heck, I don’t hardly watch any news. Anyone who has been around this blog for a while knows I have utter contempt for the MSM, but that contempt is tripled for the television branch of the MSM. I started rolling it around in my head, and I doubt that I spend even 15 minutes a month watching any sort of televised national news. I might check it if there’s a breaking story with interesting video…but, even then, you usually get the raw video faster in social media. The longest stretch of MSM-watching I’ve done over the past 10 years was Election Night 2016, because I had a feeling going in that Trump might pull it off and I wanted to see the nitwits react to that. And even there, it was only for a couple hours. Then it all struck me: they were not so much wanting me to stop watching Fox, but to start watching MSNBC. Because, man, that is where the truth is!

This burst of revelation was solidified today when a Never Trumper on Twitter was going on a rant and one of his rant points was to say that Republicans went nuts over Obama’s tan suit, but they are letting Trump get away with murder. It immediately leaped to my mind that I don’t remember the Tan Suit Scandal. Honestly, I don’t. I couldn’t begin to tell you when it happened or what the particulars were. I only know about it because since Trump took office, I keep seeing boring, poorly done leftist memes claiming that the Tan Suit Scandal was Obama’s only scandal (when I see it I always post a link to Worst President, as a sort of rebuttal). Do you guys know more about this? I asked Matt and he was pretty vague about it, as well. Bottom line, did any actual Republican go anything remotely nuts about Obama’s tan suit? But here was a guy – a guy who is college educated, top of his profession, etc – getting upset that Republicans got upset about Obama’s tan suit. Did it really happen? Meaning, not “did Obama wear a tan suit” but was there a “Tan Suit Scandal” which roiled politics for a period of time? I don’t think there was – I’m pretty sure I would have noticed it at the time. I did a bit of searching the blog, and I don’t think it even rated an Open Thread mention. I’m now quite certain that there is a world different from reality – we’ll call it TV Reality – where quite a lot of people live, and they believe a lot of nonsense simply because the TV said so…and don’t know a huge amount of stuff because TV hasn’t told them to know it.

You know TV Reality – it is where Trump is Hitler and on his last legs and there isn’t even such a thing as an anti-Semitic Democrat Congresswoman. Where Jussie Smollett was National News until the truth came out and he became a Local Crime Story. TV Reality – where racist hate crimes are all over the place, as opposed to Actual Reality where the hate crimes are exposed again and again as hoaxes. We’ve got tens of millions of people in this country who don’t believe anything they don’t see on TV – and who never, even for a moment, question what they see on TV. These people form the base of the Democrat party – but we’re not immune: I’ve seen plenty of righties, and not Never Trumpers, get themselves into a panic again and again because the TV Reality said Trump did something bad, or that Trump is in trouble over something.

The only advice I can give on this is to shut off the TV – if we did that, Trump would get 80% of the vote in 2020. We do have to find some way to battle this – we have tens of millions of people acting in an amazingly stupid manner because they are convinced that the person on TV in makeup who is reading lines off a teleprompter is real. That when one of these dimwits makes a pronouncement it is as if God Himself were speaking…rather than realizing what they see is a person who got the job because he or she looked and sounded good on TV. Can’t emphasize it enough that brains and ability are not requirements for being on TV – all that is required is looking and sounding good. And they’ve got makeup, lighting, computer programs and sound technicians to make you look and sound really good. I remember that time I went on TV and I had to spend 45 minutes in a makeup chair…for a 10 minute spot! I looked fabulous…and if I had said the moon was made of green cheese, at least a portion of the audience would have bought it because I looked good and I was on TV.

Brainless prats on TV mouthing lines that leftwing propagandists fed to them…mindless boobs at home watching it and thinking, “yeah, sure, Putin rigged the election for Trump to win”. Trouble is the mindless boobs get to vote and their vote counts as much as yours. This is a huge problem for us to get around.

After 2 years and millions of dollars spent, the smartest man in the room and reportedly one of the top prosecutors nationwide, Bob Mueller has nothing on Trump’s collusion with Russia. The Manafort and Cohen convictions proved that. They tried like hell to flip those two.

And the lack of self awareness amongst the MSNBC panelists is priceless. One of them said the other day that Trump’s policies were encouraging illegal immigrant border crossings. Let that sink in.

And they are not the only ones.

I’ve been saying for a long time that we need to make the bullies of the Left have a price to pay for their antics. For example, any person whose name was used to cast a ballot because the Left would not allow mandatory photo IDs to vote should sue every agency responsible for his or her lost ability to vote.

Well, that seemed like a good idea till the Left came up with a scheme to deprive MILLIONS of their votes while subverting the Constitution.

Interesting, but I have a much simpler Green New Deal that would work to cut all emissions by half in less than a generation while improving quality of life for everyone. It’s kind of like Thanos’s plan in the Avengers to get rid of half the population of the universe, but all voluntary! Already, there are women who are concerned about climate change pondering not having children because the Earth is in trouble. Let’s encourage that! Leftists should all agree that to prove their devotion to the planet, they will stop having children and peacefully stop existing. Imagine the waste saved! And resources can be spent wiser. And leftists will get the last laugh on all those who believe climate change is bullshit, because the skeptics who live on will benefit the most from this bold plan.

      • JeremiahTMM March 10, 2019 / 10:19 pm

But, we all know that’s not how the left sees it, nor would they agree to such, because they are greedy, and they want to hog up all the fruits of middle class America for themselves, and create a society that fits their own narrative on laws and morality. So, their plan is to use the power of elections to implement the slaughter of people who disagree with them, like Pol Pot did the people of Cambodia, who wouldn’t agree to, or comply with the Pol Pot’s wishes. But, the left in this country wouldn’t demand compliance, they would just go on a mass killing spree, because there are people on the Left who keep track of which areas of the United States are predominantly Conservative, and that’s where the left will go to carry out their mass murder. And, I’m not a conspiracy theorist. The Lenin/Trotsky types are comprised of today’s ANTIFA types.

The division is quite clear in this country, there no longer any mixture or moderate types politically speaking, people have become more Hardline in their political, philosophical worldviews. No longer does talk work. We talk, talk, talk all the while leftists are carving up the rights of the citizenry. At some point this has to come to a bursting point, kind of like pushing a tire to its limits with air, and it goes kaplooey.

If Leftists stop reproducing that will have the added benefit having those who are born be much more likely to be members of the Productive Class, as the Dependent Class and the Victim Class will both be self-limiting.

        I just don’t see a downside!

    And I like this too:

… the most central and most serious question in this investigation, the reason Robert Mueller started it is, did the current president of the United States assist the Kremlin in an attack on our democracy? And if Mueller, after two years, comes back and says, “I don’t have the evidence to support that charge,” that’s a reckoning. That’s a reckoning for progressives and Democrats who hoped that Mueller would essentially erase the 2016 election. It’s a reckoning for the media. It’s a reckoning around the country if, in fact, after all this time there was no collusion.

Closer to a legal challenge and a SCOTUS ruling, costing the states and the federal taxpayers a lot of money to stop a blatant effort to undermine/violate the Constitution

      • Retired Spook March 11, 2019 / 11:43 am

Often the Left’s efforts to undermine the original intent of the Constitution are subtle and occur over long periods of time through the process known as precedent. The NPV compact is about as blatant an attempt as I can recall, and I’d be shocked if the Supreme Court doesn’t shut it down.

      • Amazona March 11, 2019 / 12:09 pm

The way I understand the workings of the Court, the activists huddle together to try to figure out how the wording of the Constitution can be parsed to support a Leftist agenda or, failing that, they simply invent a new “right”, while the originalists research the contemporaneous writings of the Founders when there is a question about their intent to make sure they rule on whether or not a lower court ruling complies with both the wording and the intent of the document.

The wording in the Constitution allowing a lot of leeway in how each state handles elections and the assignment of Electoral College votes was a way of complying with the goal of leaving as much authority to the states as possible. But the Founders were absolutely, emphatically, without the slightest doubt determined that the presidency would not, could not, be decided by a majority of the popular vote, and when there is an apparent conflict within the wording of the Constitution the justices will have to go the writings of the Founders as they explained and defended their decisions to resolve any conflict or confusion.

The Left will try to isolate the verbiage referring to the ability of the states to decide how they will allot their Electoral College votes, so they can quibble about the extent or what they are calling the lack of any boundary on what the states decide. That is because if the matter is viewed in the overall context of the reasoning behind creating an Electoral College in the first place it will be clear that the liberty of the states to decide how to allocate their votes still requires them to abide by the intent of the College in the first place, which is to eliminate the problems of having the election decided by a popular vote.

      • rgrg2 March 11, 2019 / 12:30 pm

The wording in the Constitution allowing a lot of leeway in how each state handles elections and the assignment of Electoral College votes

A lot of leeway? Instead of reading Amazona’s interpretation of what the Constitution says, let’s go to the Constitution itself, shall we?

United States Constitution, Article 2 Section 1:

“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.”

It’s not “a lot of leeway.” Each state determines the manner in which its electors are chosen, with no strings attached.

      • Amazona March 11, 2019 / 4:34 pm

Good for you. Now show us where the Constitution says those electors can choose to cast their votes to support an election by popular vote.

The only thing that should keep you from roaring in laughter as Nancy Pelosi freaks out trying to keep a lid on the freak show that is the Democratic caucus is the knowledge that the freshmen freakettes giving her fits would impose an ideology of tyranny and murder if given the chance. But you can still allow yourself a good giggle as you watch Nancy’s dreams of a Democrat majority die on the altar of anti-Semitism, taking away your health insurance, and banning cheeseburgers.

This was on display as the Democrats struggled to find a way to publicly pretend to condemn their superstar bigot’s hatred of Jews without annoying all the Democrats for whom hatred of Jews is a key component of their intersectional web of leftist prejudices. Nancy essentially tried to excuse it by explaining that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Berlin) is too stupid to know she’s anti-Semitic which, to be fair, is plausible.

Tucker nails it. This is the fight we are engaged in:

    • Retired Spook March 12, 2019 / 10:47 am

One line in his monologue really caught my attention:

Why are the people who consider Bill Clinton a hero lecturing me about sexism?

I’d add — why is anyone on the Left lecturing us about anything? Even if they occupied the moral high ground, which they don’t, their faux outrage falls on deaf ears. But this is something they’ve gotten away with for so long that I think they figured it would always work. IT WON”T! And, coming from the people whose motto is “the ends justify the means” it’s truly laughable.

      • Amazona March 12, 2019 / 12:09 pm

The average Leftist is smug about his or her assumption of occupying the Higher Moral Ground because of the success of the Left’s propaganda. It boils down to two basics: One is that merely being FOR something is all that is necessary to be “moral” but what makes this so powerful is the accompanying belief that anyone on the Right is AGAINST those good, moral, things. Why? Because they are the Other Side, of course, which has to mean Opposite. Doesn’t it? Their masters tell them it does.

This is so deeply ingrained in them by years of ceaseless messaging that they don’t analyze this belief, or question it. It simply IS. So if Lulu Lefty believes that children should not be allowed to starve and that mean people suck and that hate is a bad thing she can feel good about herself, without actually doing anything to help feed children or be a nicer person herself or, more ironically, stop hating. But what makes her so smug is the accompanying belief that the Right, that everyone ON the Right, because after all they are the Opposition and doesn’t that really mean “opposite”? all think it’s OK for children to starve, and that mean people are wonderful and hate is a worthwhile goal.

The Left has created a binary, IF YOU ARE NOT THIS YOU ARE THAT kind of world and sold it to their followers.

Notice that the Left, until recently, has not been openly promoting policies, but focusing instead on demonizing the Right, setting the stage for its next campaign.

They have successfully, to a great extent, sold several memes to the gullible, telling them essentially that they don’t even have a to support the proposed policies of the Left to vote for them because it is so important to stop the Evil Invented Other in its inexorable march toward white supremacy, racism in every form, thought and deed, greed and indifference to suffering, dependence on hatred, love of war, blah blah blah blah blah.

For the past few election cycles the Left has not promoted voting FOR anything as much as voting AGAINST this evil Invented Other,. the ogre of conservatism that wants to reverse civil rights, strip women of what is due to them, put blacks back In chains, push Granny in her wheelchair over a cliff, leave children to starve on the streets and so on. They have been successful enough to move on to the next step, which is to unveil its true agenda—the implementation of serious, severe, radically Leftist, governance in the United States.

They are pretty confident that they can pull this off. They have control over most of the media, from “news” shows to entertainment, to constantly preach their messages of Hate The Other and The Other is Bad And You Are Good, and they have armies of trolls with scripts flooding the Internet with attacks on the people of the Right with allegations of immorality, abandonment of principles. racism and hatred of the demographics the Left has carefully created, such as the splintering of genders into so many fragments they can claim the Right hates at least some of them.

The reason this works is because the Left’s strategy started with controlling education, controlling what children are taught, so they grow into adults ignorant of and distrustful of history. Ask anyone under 40 about the Berlin Wall and you will either get a blank look or praise for the movie Atomic Blonde. The Left has to reinvent itself almost daily and deny and obfuscate its ugly history, which allows brain-dead Leftist sheeple to complain that Trump surrounds himself with bad people, oblivious to the irony of saying this while worshiping at the altars of those whose allies and confidants and advisers, if not the people themselves, represent truly despicable and often criminal actions. They include rapists, domestic terrorism and the effort to kill law enforcement officers with bombs, people who have killed either directly or indirectly, people who have advocated for older men seducing and having sex with confused adolescent boys (unless the men are priests—then that is an indictment of all religion) and other truly criminal and despicable people. But the Left has indoctrinated its followers in the Etch-A-Sketch mentality that every day you give history a shake and it disappears, except for the bits you want to keep because they are useful.

The Left are architects, starting with detailed plans and working from building foundations to methodically erecting its edifices, while the Right bumbles around fretting about the color of the curtains. Even so, most of the people who are polled say they are Conservative, not Liberal, and this is without a coherent message from the Right.

      • Retired Spook March 12, 2019 / 12:52 pm

One is that merely being FOR something is all that is necessary to be “moral” but what makes this so powerful is the accompanying belief that anyone on the Right is AGAINST those good, moral, things. Why? Because they are the Other Side, of course, which has to mean Opposite. Doesn’t it? Their masters tell them it does.

Which made the apoplectic criticisms in the previous thread of Conservatives abandoning their moral principles to vote for Trump all the more absurd. First of all, I have always tried to live my life in as moral and ethical way as was humanly possible. Never cheated on my wife in nearly 53 years, never cheated anyone in business, I haven’t had so much as a parking ticket in a couple decades. But I’ve NEVER claimed moral superiority over ANYONE. I’m content with knowing who I am, and I’ll let others be judged by a higher power. The Left, as Amazona notes bases their whole existence on the claim of moral superiority on the strength of nothing more than feelings and intentions. And the problem with the accusation of abandoning moral and ethical principles to vote for Trump is that to vote for the alternative would have required an even greater surrender of moral and ethical principles.

      • M. Noonan March 13, 2019 / 12:03 am

Aside from a few Never Trumpers – and we really have to stop considering them to be in any way of the right – I’ve been delighted at the gigantic chorus of “who cares?” from our side about this. And it isn’t even just that we don’t care – we also are asserting, correctly, that what Tucker did wasn’t wrong. For crying out loud, if you want to see what real vulgarity is like, tape a group of sailors at a bar on a Saturday night. We practically had a competition in those days of yore to see who could be the most vulgar.

There is really nothing wrong with profanity – the common people have always been freely profane. And I’m not about to sit here and be lectured by people who defended Bill Clinton, gave the VA Lt Governor a pass, were close buddies with Weinstein and who are ok with abortion.

      • Amazona March 13, 2019 / 12:33 am

If you want to see what real vulgarity is like, look at the Women’s Marches and the speeches given there. If you want to see what real vulgarity is like, tune into late-night TV and its Leftist “comedians”. It’s hard to think of anything more vulgar than dressing up as genitalia, or the comment about the best use for Trump’s mouth.

As I have said here, if you were to take the letters K, U, C and F out of the alphabet the Left would nearly be silenced.

  12. Retired Spook March 12, 2019 / 11:23 am

Excellent article in Public Discourse this morning on how the Left subverts Social Science on the alter of identity politics. I would argue that you could substitute “climate science” for “social science” and hardly have to change a word. How moral or ethical is it to call your adversaries “science deniers,” while, at the same time, subverting science to push your political/ideological agenda, while at the same time completely ignoring science to claim that human sex is subjective and fluid.

  13. Retired Spook March 12, 2019 / 1:04 pm

It’ll be interesting to see how the Left uses moral relativism to spin their way out of this.

Federal officials have charged Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin and dozens of others of mail fraud, in what the Justice Department says was a scheme to cheat college admissions standards by fabricating academic and athletic credentials and paying bribes to help their children attend prestigious universities.

“We’re talking about deception and fraud — fake test scores, fake credentials, fake photographs, bribed college officials,” said Andrew Lelling, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

Lelling says 33 parents “paid enormous sums” to ensure their children got into schools such as Yale, sending money to a man named William Singer for faking records and obtaining false scores on important tests such as the SAT and ACT.

“Singer’s clients paid him anywhere between $200,000 and $6.5 million for this service,” Lelling said.

The scheme operated from 2011 through Feb. 2019, he said, adding that in most cases, parents paid Singer between $250,000 and $450,000 per student.
