I’ve been reading a biography of President Grant. Early take: he was the First Trump. To be sure, there are gigantic differences between the men – Grant being very humble at all times and, also, a man of very strict Christian morals. But, Grant, like Trump, was a normal man who succeeded by beating the upper crust types…who despised him for beating them. Part of the reason why Lee became so revered (north and south) was because people who hated Grant – which included a lot of people up north, especially in the GOP leadership – built up Lee to help tear down Grant. You gotta remember, though it is hard, that Lee’s greatest triumph, Chancellorsville, was actually botched. He should have bagged the Union army just as Napoleon did the Austrian army at Austerlitz. He failed to do so. And his attack on the last day of Gettysburg was a dismal failure of imagination. Grant had his mistakes, too, most notably Cold Harbor…but Grant never failed of his aim: in war, he always accomplished what he set out to do. It is rare that a general can boast of that.

Democracy is always very much a fight between the ins and the outs. The people on the inside want to remain inside and will only be pleased if other insiders get in…they will fight tooth and nail to keep the outsider out, or destroy him if he slips in. What we’re seeing play out here has happened before…some times the outsiders win, most times they lose (Grant could never quite defeat the political forces arrayed against him: he got re-elected, but when he left office, the insiders still controlled the destinies of the Republic). We’ll see if Trump does better.

There are rumors that the Minnesota Democrats are seeking a primary challenger to Rep. Omar. They won’t get one – they can’t. In the end, racial bean counting has become so ingrained in how Democrats view the world that the only person who could possibly be allowed to challenge Omar would be someone just like Omar.

Don’t send your kid to college – send him or her to trade school:

…consider Dan Maurer, a journeyman pipefitter with United Association Local 190, a plumber and pipe trades union in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He’s one class away from an associate degree in applied science. He left general construction and carpentry to pursue the mechanical trades and today does welding, plumbing, and medical gas piping for Boone & Darr, a mechanical contractor in Ann Arbor. A rock-solid middle-class breadwinner, Maurer is the sole support for his stay-at-home wife and two young daughters, no small feat today for any young family.

A future in the trades begins even before you graduate high school, he says: “Pay attention while you’re in public school to the education that’s right in front of you. It’s free. It’s a gift. When you go on from there to pursue a trade, remember that whatever you put into it is what you get out of it.”

More and more of that, please. We need hands-on people who know how things work…that is what we need for the practical reason of making things work, and for the future because innovation really comes from the ground up as people doing the work think of better ways to do it.

Ace collects some horror stories from the Trans front. What the State is doing – allowing/forcing – vis a vis kids who claim to be trans is appalling. If you’re the parent of a young boy or girl and that kid suddenly decides they are trans, you’re not going to be able to stop it. You might find yourself in grave legal jeopardy if you tried to stop it…and as the article notes, there seems to be unlimited funds for kids to transition. Who is ponying up this money? How did this get decided? We need to look very deeply into this, totally unafraid of the names the left us will call us for doing so. This isn’t about whether and adult can choose this (they can) nor whether we should show respect to those who have (of course we should)…this is about whether or not a minor child can choose this without parental consent…and whether or not doctors should be allowed, even with consent, to permanently, physically alter a child (I say, “no”: hey, if the kid is really determined on this, then at 18 he/she/xir can have at it…but no permanent alternations until the kid is at the age of consent).

Beto announced he’s running for President on the “hey, don’t I look young and cool?” platform. Geraghty points out:

If Beto had an R after his name instead of a D, you’d hear he was boarding-school-attending judge’s son who dodged serious charges for the DUI & burglary, used eminent domain to gentrify poor Latino neighborhoods & married into a billionaire’s family.

Public Discourse has been at the forefront of the Trans issue. Today’s article is an excellent example.

What should you do if your five-year-old son tells you that he is a girl?

The proportion of children and young adults who say that they are transgender is rising at an extraordinary rate, not only in the United States but in other countries as well. In 2009–2010, only forty girls in the United Kingdom requested reassignment to the male gender. In 2017–2018, that number was 1,806 girls, a rise of more than 4,000 percent in less than a decade. The UK Government Equalities Office (yes, it’s a thing) has announced that it will investigate.

    What’s going on?

Our nation’s largest association of pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), recently released new guidelines for the evaluation and management of children and adolescents who identify as transgender. Previous guidelines have recognized that best practice depends on the age of the child. The great majority of five-year-old boys who say that they are girls will not persist in that conviction; ten years later, most of those boys will say that they are boys. They may be gay, they may be straight, but they are now sure that they are boys. They no longer want to be girls.

Five-year-olds are not mature adults. They are young children. As they grow up, they change in profound ways, particularly after the onset of puberty.

Expert pediatricians used to understand that. They no longer do, at least not with regard to transgender identification. The new guidelines from the AAP explicitly eliminate any role for age in evaluation of the child. According to the new guidelines, any child who wants to transition to the other sex should be “affirmed.” Regardless of age. If a five-year-old boy tells you that he is a girl, your job is to buy him a dress and change his name to Emily. Any other response is outdated and transphobic. The authors specifically reject any “watchful waiting” for prepubescent children.

    — snip — But the American Academy of Pediatrics is now on record prioritizing the opinion of a five-year-old over the considered judgment of the child’s parents, even suggesting that the pediatrician should take (unspecified) legal action if those ignorant parents refuse to obey their child’s wishes to transition to the other gender. (emphasis – mine)

I think eventually the push back on this trend will be massive and overwhelming, but not before incalculable societal damage is done.

And 30 years ago we warned against what would happen – precisely this – and we were laughed down and told not to worry about it…most especially we were told by Conservative, Inc that we shouldn’t worry about it. But the Trans issue is the issue where they want to force us all to lie…force us, that is, to assert as true what we know isn’t true. And it is crucial to this effort that a five year old be transgender…because if they can force us to say that a five year old boy is a girl (when he likely is unclear on what the differences between the sexes are), then we will be defenseless against them…and unwilling to turn back to truth because we participated in such a monstrous lie.

Erick Erickson is a Conservative that I have admired for some time. Back in 2004 when I first discovered this blog, I split a lot of my on-line time between Blogs for Bush and Red State. I was disappointed when Erick came out as a Never Trumper but I thought he would be one of the Never Trumpers who would eventually come to see the error in that decision. Turns out I was right. The link is from Erick’s blog, The Resurgent, but it also appeared as an oped in our local paper this morning.

I always hesitate to write about personal matters because I get emails and texts from friends and family worrying. But then I encounter people who say how much it helped them to know there is someone else out there who had gone through what they are now going through. So, we should dive in for those who are going through the whirlwind.

In 2015, the Atlantic magazine ran a multipage profile of me declaring me the most influential conservative in America. The assessment was not true, but I also think it is safe to say it has been all downhill from there in some respects.

At the end of 2015, I left the website I was then operating, RedState, to form this site that I could better integrate into my radio show, which I had hoped to take into syndication. I was filling in on nationally syndicated radio shows, I had a TV contract, I was making lots of money, and then not so much.

My radio show did not make it into syndication, though I expect that is coming soon. My television contract disappeared as did several rather amazing offers that presented themselves then faded away. My income has declined significantly over the last three years. Much of this was because I decided I would not support President Trump in 2016. Standing up for principles has a cost. I still think it was as much the right thing to do then as saying now I will support him in 2020, given the alternatives and his accomplishments. (emphasis – mine)

    • M. Noonan March 14, 2019 / 7:23 pm

I’m actually sorry he got the short end of the stick for a bit…but, thing is, we are in a crucial fight. This is for all the marbles. If we left the left get power for long enough, everyone non-left will be disenfranchised, disbarred from economic life and, very likely, spending time in jail repeatedly. They really don’t think we should be free – they don’t like gun ownership, of course, but they also do not believe that parents have any rights over their children; that no one has a right to own property; that we aren’t free to exercise our religion (certainly not in a way that would show up in public)…they think we are evil and doomed to die out, anyways. These are the sort of attitudes which fill up railroad boxcars…that they don’t know it will come to that doesn’t matter: they’ll do it, anyway, when the time comes. And as we are all shipped off to camp, they’ll congratulate themselves on how they are saving us from ourselves.

And people like Erickson have known this all along – he knew it in 2016 when Trump ran and he opted for Never Trump. We can’t give an inch – mostly because our backs are already against the wall and we have no more inches to give. As noted in the link to Ace, the left is already busily using State power and social pressure to destroy children in the name of “diversity”. They are already talking up how kids can be killed after birth. They are already talking up how the whole concept of family is wrong. These people will not stop until we are destroyed…or we destroy them. I still think we have a small window of opportunity to destroy them at the ballot box – but is only if everyone non-left wakes up to the threat. If we keep having non-left people undercut us, then our only eventual way out will be via civil war.

Only someone who hasn’t thought it through thoroughly would want that as an outcome.

I received an interesting piece about the first Civil War from a friend via email today. I’d like to forward it to you for comment. I’ve always considered myself a history buff, but my knowledge pales in comparison to yours.

      • Amazona March 15, 2019 / 11:57 am

A couple of observations on the “civil war” comment. One Is that I am seeing the normally mild-mannered Right getting more fed up with being expected to just sit back while the Left riots, threatens, intimidates, attacks, etc. and is approaching the “waking the sleeping giant” stage of political evolution. I am fine with the “enough is enough” reaction, but cringe when I sense a desire start getting violent.

There is a difference between “Bring it ON!!!” and “bring it if you must but be aware of what will be waiting for you”.

The other is that civil war, in this day and age, does not automatically mean shooting people. If you think about it, the Dems have started a civil war, in that they have drawn a line in the sand and stated their intent to take over the country and drag it across that line. They have gone from wanting to govern this country to destroying it and replacing it with another.

The United States, as it was conceived and created, was not a nation of rigid ruling by a massively powerful Central Authority. It was not a nation governed by people who are not its citizens. It was not merely a space on a map but was a sovereign nation which had clearly defined borders and defended those borders. It was a nation based on the concept of equality under the law.

The line has been drawn, and the war has begun. The Right is fighting for the United States as it was conceived and created, and the Left is fighting to destroy that and replace it with a 21st Century Stalinesque tyranny.

      • JeremiahTMM March 15, 2019 / 6:54 pm

        Amazon,

Yes, the Left has started a civil war, albeit a civil cold war. A kind of war that they like, a kind of civil war where they shout down, and throw feces and urine on their opponents, and are too cowardly to a fist fight, so instead of a fair one on one fight they use batons/flag poles to gang up on one person and beat them with their weapons. They use dirty tactics, rather than a fair fight. I would much rather see, if the Left is allowed to have flag poles, bear spray, feces and urine, that the playing field be leveled, and groups like III%’s be allowed to carry their military style equipment. Rifles, helmets, body armour, etc. I mean that’s only fair isn’t it?

I think that’s only fair because, in the large west coast cities, which are controlled by liberals, the police are ordered to stand down, and allow conservative groups to be attacked by the college students. Like if they have a Conservative speaker that comes to UC Berkeley, all the conservative go inside and listen to the speaker, and when the speaker is done, and the meeting is over, and everybody starts leaving, there’s a mob of left-wing communists waiting outside to attack them, and all the visitors want to do is go home in peace. But there are these violent dogs waiting to attack these peace loving, Americans, who just want to go home.

The playing field needs to be leveled in regards to protestors in these liberal cities. Three percenters to to be there to make it known that communists are not welcome at conservative speeches, nor are they welcome in this country.

As Americans (not liberals, liberals are not Americans) we can continue to let the Left steam-roll us in elections, in the public square, public schools, etc and they will usher in as you say, a 21st century Stalinesque tyranny. And, with this comes the very real prospect of many millions of people perishing at the hands of the tyrants.

But, yeah, the Left likes civil cold war, because they know have the upper hand. Now, if it goes hot, they will not like that too well, because then, they know they’ve lost, because we show we are not going to lie down and allow them to crush the life out of us.

I expect, that as we grow closer to election 2020 the left will grow more anxious to try and force President Trump out of office, and this will start cranking up.the heat amongst the militia groups around the country.

There’s a lot of different viewpoints about how it will all turn out, some people believe that the left will try to force the President physically from office, and they try to use the help of other countries who are communists like china, Russia, Cuba, etc. Along with the U.N. who are already stockpiling armoured vehicles and such in compounds throughout the country, in or close to large cities like Baltimore.

One I just want to stress, no matter what happens…We do not want and cannot allow the left to get power under any circumstances. We must do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening.

      • Amazona March 15, 2019 / 8:11 pm

Erickson marginalized himself, which he does not address in this quote. He still reverts to the posture that cost him so much, still tries to claim it puts him on the Higher Moral Ground (Standing up for principles has a cost) without admitting that his much-vaunted, constantly paraded “principles” were based on a massively inflated ego and Identity Politics writ large.

He basically got kicked off Red State because he had become such a pompous lecturing pain in the butt, refusing to let go of his conviction that “conservatism” is really about personal attitudes toward social behaviors and not a POLITICAL philosophy about how best to govern the nation and his insistence that this made him morally superior to every single person who voted for Trump.

His position could be boiled down to every sin a man has committed, no matter how far back in his life, no matter how he has lived his life for a decade or more since those sins, must be held against him in perpetuity by someone self-identified as qualified to pass judgment on it even though Christian teachings are based on the concepts of salvation, redemption and forgiveness and constant posturing as morally superior to about half of the people in the United States because they took their civic duties more seriously than personal pique is more important than any POLITICALLY conservative principle.

Even now he is having a hard time letting go of that huge ego trip and sense of righteousness. For about two years he paraded his conviction that squeamishness about aspects of a man’s personal history not only proved he was a morally superior man but made him something of a martyr (Standing up for principles has a cost.) even though his bragging and posturing were based on his assertion that abandoning his alleged POLITICAL values and refusing to help pull the nation back from the brink of all-out disaster from which it might never recover proves him to be a courageous and better man.

He had a chance to matter, and he squandered it because it was more important to take a stand on something that was not relevant to the issues at hand. Yes, Trump had a sordid history. But (1) there was no indication he had continued this kind of appalling behavior and (2) at the time he was the only hope of halting the death spiral of American politics and governance. Erick ignored both of these facts in favor of posturing as the moral conscience of the nation.

Worse, from a political point of view, he tossed aside any claim he might have had to a commitment to helping this nation stick to its Constitutional foundations, which is after all the definition of a POLITICAL conservative, and showed himself to be nothing more than an Identity Politics “conservative” busy patting himself on the back and adjusting his Church Lady hat while assuming the position of judge of the actions of others from his claimed position atop the Higher Moral Ground.

I have no respect for what he did, in his refusal to vote or his subsequent efforts to help the Left undermine Trump’s presidency, create internal divisiveness, destabilize our society and add his voice to those trying to use sham morality to unseat a duly elected president. No, I don’t remember him actively promoting THAT, but his public voice was part of the howling mob’s.

Maybe he did have legitimate conservative ideals back before they were put up against the ego trip of posturing as the moral standard of the nation—and came in a distant second. I have contempt for his choice and no respect for him. I was starting to respect him a little as he started to come around, but this pathetic self-serving whine about how he still thinks he did the right thing and how much it cost him to have the courage to stand up for his principles, blah blah blah, tells me his public move toward now supporting Trump is based on what he thinks he has to do to get back in the game.

It’s just a rite of passage, a statement of moving past childhood. Clearly, in Sandy’s case that is purely symbolic, as she is still quite juvenile, but I think we should at least use Robert’s big boy name if he wants to play in the big boy room.

After reading the transcript, and watching a few excruciating minutes of the testimony of the Wells Fargo executive being subjected to the smug inanity of AOC’s interrogation, I suddenly realized that Wells Fargo should be held accountable for a lot more than it is right now.

For example, if WF holds the mortgage on a house that is then used to cook meth, the bank should be sued for damages by the families of those who became addicted to the drug. Or if the resident of a house financed by Wells Fargo runs over the tricycle of the neighbor’s toddler, shouldn’t Wells Fargo have to buy him a new one?

As for Trump, well, everyone knows he is personally responsible for every bad thing that happens in every country in the world, because of things he never said or supported or condoned but, well,…..Trump.

Just as Piers Morgan would be responsible for a crime committed by someone stupid enough to watch his show. Surely he has a list of the 39 people who do, so he can ferociously disown any or all of them for any or all stupid or criminal acts they may commit or thoughts they might have.

The October 9, 2018 detainer notice from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), obtained by Fox News states that Carlos Eduardo Arevalo Carranza, 24, was to be deported.

But the following day, another document was stamped with a notice that stated that the request was ‘NOT HONORED PER COUNTY POLICY.’

That document was sent to Santa Clara County.

Four months later, Carranza, 24, stalked Bambi Larson before beating and stabbing her to death in her home, police say.

Perhaps they were looking for those “racist dog whistles” that only liberals can hear and ended up finding a completely different invisible source of racism. A microaggression, if you will.

“Pollution is disproportionately caused by whites, but disproportionately inhaled by black and Hispanic minorities,” say the totally neutral scientists who don’t have a political ax to grind. Let’s see if we can unpack this hot new theory that has all the girls at CNN excited.

White people cause racist air by committing racist sins against the planet, mainly by doing racist things such as “creating electricity.” Then, according to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN), the Jews cause the wind to blow all of the pollution from the racist power plants into black and Hispanic neighborhoods, where they are forced to breathe the racist air. Science!

Scientist Jason Hill adds, “What is especially surprising is just how large pollution inequity is and has been for well over a decade.”

So… it started right around when Obama came into office? Good to know.

“Pollution inequity” is a great new fake liberal science term that I’ll have to add to my lexicon. It comes after “Cisgender Heteronormative Fascism” and “Global Warming” alphabetically.
