Bill Cassidy is out – didn’t even make it to the runoff; came in third, so two other GOPers will vie for Cassidy’s seat this November.

The Usual Suspects are out there deploring this – “just because he wasn’t loyal to Trump!”. News flash: it wasn’t Trump who overwhelmingly voted Cassidy into history’s dust bin. It was the people of Louisiana. Seventy three percent of primary voters voted against Cassidy. That is a complete rejection not by Trump, but by the people.

The proximate cause, of course, was Cassidy voting to impeach Trump in 2021 – voting to do so based on what was a transparent Deep State op on January 6th. In other words, Cassidy wasn’t standing for Law … he was merely cooperating with a Dem op. And that is why he was punished. The GOP base – increasingly MAGA – is fed up with Republicans who help Democrats. It wasn’t the actual vote…it was why he voted like that.

The bottom line is that we’ll no longer tolerate weak-kneed Democrats in GOP clothing…people who only run as Republicans because that is the only way to power in their State or district. If you are to take GOP votes, we want a GOP result. Nobody has to jump on a grenade for Trump. You can be in opposition to this or that Trump policy. Plenty of GOPers are and Trump isn’t saying a word against them…because they aren’t cooperating with Dem ops. Trump doesn’t mind fair give and take – and he knows that the battle is some times knee to groin. He’s ok with that. In fact, he seems to enjoy that. But don’t backstab…don’t get out there repeating Democrat talking points – which are always lies.

The result also shows that MAGA is vibrant – the two advancing are, from what I can tell, MAGA and More MAGA, at least in rhetoric. The base is still with Trump. And if Trump and the MAGA GOP can get these people to show up in November, the result will be amazing. Reminder: all models are based upon the Trump 2024 voter not showing up. Could it end that way? Sure. But Trump and the GOP have a billion dollars in hand to remind these people how important it is to vote.

In 1859, the State of California passed the Pico Act – named after Andres Pico who led the effort. What did it do? Per the Constitution of the United States, it split California into two States – that is, with the consent of the State in question. This Act has never been repealed – it is still on the books in California. It was never completed because the Secession Crisis came on right afterwards and there simply wasn’t any time or desire to deal with it. Post Civil War, it was simply forgotten. But it is a law – and it is still in force. And Trump could do the funniest thing ever by sending the Pico Act back to Congress for their vote on it.

Iran might have thought Trump had forgot about them, but Trump hasn’t – earlier today he issued another warning to them: make a deal or else.

Robert Stacy McCain notes that a good starting point in discussing the odd ideas out there is to check, as it were, the browsing history of their advocates.

Looks like what we all suspected was correct: Omar knew all about the corruption. We need to indict, convict, denaturalize and deport this foreign agent.

PTL! Never liked the guy from the first time I heard him speak.

Not sure how you could slice up California into 2 states such that they wouldn’t put 4 demoncrat senators in congress.

I don’t follow California politics very closely but have always heard that the agricultural areas and north of San Francisco are more conservative than the coastal areas

It should be cut into four States, actually

If California were cut up at all it would open a door to the idea I have been promoting for years now—that is, to add ten new states. Carve out eastern Washington and Oregon to make a state free from the coastal elites (I named it Olympia.) Carve out eastern Colorado and add it to western Kansas and Nebraska, making the rural areas have more representation. (“Centennial”?) Free most of Illinois from Chicago, most of New York State from Manhattan, most of Georgia from Atlanta, and so on.

Forget making Puerto Rico a state. It brings nothing to the table but dependency votes. As for DC, that would be a lot more complicated than the Big Thinkers of the Left understand, as the Constitution demands a district for the location of the federal government that is not part of any state. That would mean a new federal district would have to be created, which would mean at least one state and probably more having to cede land to the new district. Most states that have Ghettoland problems also have other populations, and tax bases of agriculture, manufacturing, etc. A new DC state would be about 90% Ghettoland, with no tax base other than some hotels and restaurants and a LOT of federal money—but it would get all the monuments and fancy buildings.

Alternative: Go somewhere like Topeka for a new federal district, somewhere closer to the Heartland, and start over. Every building in DC is old, getting worn out and in need of constant repair and renovation. So start over, with the historical background of today’s DC to inform the architecture and landscaping, turn the existing buildings over to become homeless shelters, and use our amazing technology to simply dismantle and move the important monuments. In other words start planning for the next 250 years. Give the Left its two new California senators and its two new DC senators and rack up our own addition of 6 (at least) conservative senators. Not to mention the benefit of self-purging of the government as huffy elites pronounce “Ain’t no way I am going to go live with those redneck peasants” and resign en masse.

In a similar vein, we should at least triple the size of the House of Representatives. True representation of constituents is barely possible given the size of each district. Get true representation closer to the people. As I said, pave the way for the next 250 years.

        Endorsed.

I’m wary of Statehood for Puerto Rico because, as you note, a large portion of the population there is government-dependent and thus very likely to do nothing but elect Democrats who keep the money flowing. If we can get to a system where we’re simply not a welfare State any longer, then I’d consider Puerto Rican Statehood. OTOH, I would seriously consider bringing in the Marianas Islands as a State – sure, officially a lot of Dems there, but also a deeply Christian population and so very open to MAGA when push comes to shove. I’m leaning towards Statehood there for several reasons, not least of which is that I want to signal China our intentions to remain engaged in the Western Pacific are permanent…China’s nationalists claim the Marianas are part of China’s sphere of influence.

California is 4 States, as noted – but in addition:

East and West Washington and Oregon.

        North and South Nevada.

        North and South Illinois.

        East and West New York.

Texas – they’re weird. Personally I think it is four States as well.

        North and South Virginia.

        That gets us 12 more.

But I’ve also considered the idea of the City-State. That is, any city over 900,000 in population is allowed to become a City State. This allows the big cities to have their representation in the Senate without the cities essentially denying Senatorial representation for the rural areas. There are currently 16 such cities:

NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago everyone sees – but it also includes Austin, San Diego and Indianapolis…does not include San Francisco!

If done, the cities would retain the House representation they have now, will gain two Senators…but the rural areas will also, essentially, gain two Senators. Plus districts can’t be drawn to pull rural areas into urban areas to give an urban person the office at the expense of rural representation (I live in Nevada’s 4th – which includes a tiny bit of metro Las Vegas…to make sure a Democrat is elected even though it additionally covers a large number of rural counties which went Trump like 70/30). City politicians will no longer be able to dictate to the rural areas…so, you can be the kook Left environmentalist all you want, but you’ll actually have to convince the farmer, rancher and miner to go along…not just get a distant State government to impose your green twaddle on them.

Not sure where the east / west divide for NY would be. It seems a better division would be north / south where Westchester and above becomes North York,,, but the abbreviations wouldn’t work as they’d both be NY.

The states I’d really like to see added… Alberta and Saskatchewan. They seem to resemble a notably hard working conservative citizenship and and area full of natural resources.

I agree about the Canadian provinces. I don’t think the population of either eastern Oregon or eastern Washington supports a new state for each state, but combining the eastern sides of each state from the mountains eastward would be a good size.

Everyone agrees about Texas—except Texas. We don’t need a bloody civil war, which is what we would get if we started to mess with Texas. Ag/rural Colorado has to be freed from Denver/Boulder, and western Kansas and Nebraska would benefit from separation from their capital cities.

Canada is circling the toilet but fast. In recent trends, grade schools teachers / administration have opted to downplay or eliminate kids creating the traditional Mother’s / Father’s Day gifts, to respect the “diversity” of families. How do such absurd administrators / politicians even get in positions of power? Is the general population so woke as to not see the destruction of Traditional families ultimately means the end of their civilization?

I’ve mentioned getting a lot of Facebook notifications lately, odd because I don’t use Facebook though I do have an account. Last night I watched a fairly long reel from a man from Alberta addressing the issue of Alberta separating from Canada, and he said that the day before (no way to know when this was posted) a big rally had been held in Edmonton, and for some reason last night I got half a dozen reels in my notification about the same topic, of separation. I have appointments this morning but will look this up when I get a chance but it looks like it is really heating up.

One of the reels said negotiations would have to take place to determine how much Alberta would have to pay Canada for its national parks, military bases and things considered to be national, and how much Canada would have to pay Alberta for other things.

      • jdge's avatar jdge May 20, 2026 / 7:12 am

It seems the issues for separation are numerous and not all are easily resolved. For example, the Canadian federal government has taken money from workers their whole life for retirement benefits, much like our own social security. How would that transfer happen? And if provinces go independent, what currency would they use? Continued use of the Canadian dollar would be rife with problems as any manipulation by the controlling government would by extension have negative ripple effects on the separated provinces with little to no recourse. Other areas of concern are boarders, military, passports – regulating and controlling immigration, electing a new government, commerce, especially being landlocked… Joining the USA is also not an easy step. It would require congressional approval and annexation agreements, though I could see Trump attempting to use a more direct and simple process.

Since it’s an open thread, I’d like to talk about something that’s been weighing on my mind; something I’m sure all of us have experienced to some degree or another. I Had an interesting conversation with the audiologist at Costco yesterday.  My significant other was having her hearing aids adjusted, and the audiologist ask if we had anything interesting planned for the rest of the day.  I said we needed to stop at Sam’s Club, and she asked what we liked about Sam’s Club vs. Costco.  (I have a Sam’s Club membership, and my lady friend has Costco where she got both her hearing aids and her contacts).  I didn’t mention that everything is cheaper at Sam’s, but I did say that I really like the Scan & Go phone app at Sam’s, and she said Costco is dragging their feet on it because of the enormous potential for fraud.  We have a significant portion of our population that makes a living via fraud, I’m afraid.  Sad.

    • Amazona's avatar Amazona May 19, 2026 / 11:05 am

I used to use Scan and Go at Sam’s and then they “updated” their app and I had to sign up again. When I read the agreement wording I said “no way”. To use Scan and Go I had to agree to give Sam’s complete access to everything in my phone. When I complained to employees I was told that I just didn’t understand the agreement, or that this was because Scan and Go works through my camera so they have to have access to my photos, but when pushed to read the actual wording no one could explain why, for example, they needed access to my phone logs and contacts. From my reading I would be giving them carte blanche to go through every single piece of data on my phone.

I still shop at Sam’s, but go through checkout.

BTW, you might want to check out red light therapy for hearing loss—-little headphones with ear buds that direct red light to the inside of the ear. I don’t use hearing aids but I’m still going to look into it because I have tinnitus.

Yep – and it has been going on for a while. I always recall that my late older brother (died in 2010) received something in the neighborhood of 2k per month disability. His disability? He was a drunkard and a drug addict. Seriously. That was it. He got 2k per month…and, of course, blew through it each month within days of getting it. That was perfectly legal…and fraud, of course. You then consider how hard would it be to just say you’re disabled by drink? Next step: to completely make up people who are disabled by drink – they’re homeless, right? No ID on them. “Yeah, Fred is a disabled man…and he’s receiving treatment from us for his addiction. He lives behind the dumpster over on 7th Avenue…just deposit his disability check and we’ll keep helping him!”. Who the heck would check? Next step is what we see in Los Angeles – which has more hospice care facilities than all of Florida and, lo and behold, we’re finding scores of them headquartered at the same empty buildings.

This attitude starts to permeate a society. I mentioned before that I recently took a new job and I’m working with some very splendid young people – hard working, intelligent kids. But on the other side of life there are also kids out there the same age and their whole being is how to game the system. Because they’ve been taught their whole lives that is what you do…their parents did it. They’ll do it. They have never put any effort into anything except trying to get around the need to work for a living. These are the “teens” who take over shopping malls to rob…who destroy fast food joints…who are progressively making life unlivable in the Blue cities.

        Saw this headline this morning:

Americans over 60 lost nearly $5 billion to scammers last year, and the FBI says three schemes are doing most of the damage.

      • Mark Noonan's avatar Mark Noonan May 21, 2026 / 11:15 pm

And now we see that nobody was really doing anything about it. Trump’s DOJ is – and now we can see how extensive it is. As has been said, a system produces what it is made to produce. The amount of graft in our system is, therefor, intentional. Almost as if there is a concerted effort to get wealth out of our hands.

What a hoot! Can you imagine any Democrat except maybe Bill Clinton pulling that off? OK, pulling it off is not the right term, because it’s an AI parody, or maybe photoshopped parody. Anyway, I can’t imagine substituting any Democrat (except maybe Clinton) for either Trump and/or Rubio.

Who wanted to go make out in the shower? I spied AOC, Bernie and Schumer all sitting together, and of course the Clintons, but I think I missed some. Oh, and of course there was Tampon Tim and Kamala.
