Isn’t Lamar Smith (R-Texas) House Judiciary Chairman the main one pushing the SOPA bill? Shouldn’t repubs support this bill?

  2. Canadian Observer December 13, 2011 / 7:46 am

Canada, under Conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, withdraws from Kyoto Protocol to avoid having to pay massive penalities. Good or bad move?

    • Green Mountain Boy December 13, 2011 / 7:54 am

      “Good or bad move?”

Lets put it this way. I am searching through birth records in Hawaii looking for “Harper, Stephen” to prove that he is really a United States Citizen by birth.

        Hahaha, well said, GMB!

At least Mr. Harper doesn’t put his tail between his legs and cry everytime the Canadian press badmouths him.

At least Mr. Harper is not sniveling that he INHERITED the Kyoto Treaty.

    • RetiredSpook December 13, 2011 / 10:03 am

Wattsupwiththat had a post yesterday about Canada’s withdrawal from Kyoto. The comments after the post give you a pretty good idea what Canadians (and others) think of the action.

Since the United States NEVER SIGNED Kyoto in the first place, does that make us smarter than Canadians? Just sayin’.

CO, do you think Canada should pay the penalties? After all, don’t they represent egregious environmental crimes?

What other reason could there possibly be for incurring penalties?

And for your morning chuckle, I offer up more reasoned and mature commentary from the Obama reelection team at MSNBC, courtesy of Chris Matthews speaking of Newt Gingrich. Enjoy.

“Because he voices in cold, nasty, deadly tones the words of their contempt, because he’s an opportunist ready to seek any route to his opponent’s heart and thereby kill it.”…………This is the Faustian deal at hand: Newt Gingrich’s promise of a vision of which they on the right have set their hearts, the few minutes of national television in which the President and his wife stand before them in defeat. That’s why they’re offering up their partisan souls, why they’re ready to bow down before this false god of hatred” – Chris Matthews, MSNBC

    • James December 13, 2011 / 10:45 am

Personally, i’ve never watched MSNBC. I usually watch CNN. The only other show I watch on Fox is O’Reilly. That’s about it.

I find it interesting that you quote MSNBC so much as if it were a indicator or democratic thought…

It’s like me saying that Beck or Hannity represent the typical right wing voter.

But as to the quote. I’d say if Newt wins the nomination, his chances to win the election are about 10%.

      • Cluster December 13, 2011 / 12:10 pm

This should tell you about what conservatives who live in the real world really think…..

You honestly think Savage lives in the real world??

I quote MSNBC because they are the TMZ of political punditry, complete with mindless hosts and knee pad defense of the Obama regime. It’s better than the comedy channel.

    • James December 13, 2011 / 11:48 am

That’s why I have been saying all along, this election will be a cakewalk for the President.

A portion of the Tea Party members won’t vote for Ginrich or Romney and will stay home. People like GMB, who are routinely called rigid won’t vote at all and the President will walk away with a mandate.

      You watch and see.

      • Cluster December 13, 2011 / 12:19 pm

…the President will walk away with a mandate. – James

        Good luck with that:

Bob Scheiffer of CBS reports on a new poll where 75% of those polled believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, and 66% have no idea what Obama wants to accomplish if reelected:

      • J. R. Babcock December 13, 2011 / 1:34 pm

Just for the sake of argument, James, let’s say you’re right, and Obama does win a second term. What are some of the things you think he’ll do to reverse the overwhelming public perception (75%) that the country is on the wrong track? Do you see him continuing to pursue the same policies in the hope that they will eventually work, or do you see him going off in a different direction?

      • Cluster December 13, 2011 / 1:49 pm

There you go again J.R., expecting liberals to actually talk about substance. You know that will never happen.

        Go Broncos!

      • James December 13, 2011 / 2:06 pm

Just for the sake of argument, James, let’s say you’re right, and Obama does win a second term. What are some of the things you think he’ll do to reverse the overwhelming public perception (75%) that the country is on the wrong track?

First off, people say the country is on the wrong track based on the slow economy. We are already seeing signs of improvement, and with an improving economy, those numbers will slowly turn around.

Do you see him continuing to pursue the same policies in the hope that they will eventually work, or do you see him going off in a different direction?

The policies he has continued (tax cuts) or implemented (obamacare) are here to stay. One thing I would say probably will end is the Bush tax cuts for the rich. I think they will extend them for everyone, but not for the top income earners. I would also say that with the economy turning around as it is signs of doing right now, the payroll tax holiday will end next year for good.

      • Cluster December 13, 2011 / 2:22 pm

I would say probably will end is the Bush tax cuts for the rich.I think they will extend them for everyone, but not for the top income earners. – James

So were the tax RATE cuts just for the “rich”? Or did everyone receive a tax rate cut? And expanding on that James, tell us what taxing the rich an additional 3% will do? Do you envision that that extra revenue will shore up the deficits?

And what is Obama’s plan for the real drivers of the debt – entitlements? Any new policies there? And tell us all again how adding another layer of bureaucracy to health care will bring down costs.

First off, people say the country is on the wrong track based on the slow economy. – James

But the economy wasn’t part of the inquiry James, so please let us know what crystal ball has revealed that incredible insight.

  4. Green Mountain Boy December 13, 2011 / 12:00 pm

It is not being rigid when you refuse to vote for a progressive. People such as myself see barky, Romny Mitt, and Newton as being different sides of the same coin. All three will grow government, not reduce it. Please tell me I am lying. All three maintain that a large central burocracy will cure all our ills. All three are wrong.

Net loss of freedoms no matter which of those three might be elected.

Cakewalk? You are delusional Thomas. This cycle barky only has negatives to run on. This will give even 5-17 Romney Mitt a very good chance to win.

A mandate to a donkyrat is one vote. Nuff said.

    • Thomasg0102 December 13, 2011 / 12:05 pm

you obviously don’t follow politics. GDP growth past quarter was 2.5%, this quarter its estimated to be 3%. Next year, they are forecasting to be around 3%.

Unemployment, although labor force participation is lower is going down and will be down to about 8.3% when reelection comes around.

Further, what states can Gingrich carry? The President can lose 8 states he won last time and still win the election.

As a comment to your post though, what freedoms have you lost let’s say the past 15 years under Dems or GOPers? You said net loss of freedoms….what freedoms have you lost?

      • Green Mountain Boy December 13, 2011 / 12:14 pm

Are you sure you want to go down this road Thomas?. Stop being kneejerk and think about it first.

We will start off with the 100 watt incandecant lightbulb. As of Jan 1 2012 gone. Poof. The government decided these were no good anymore.

      • Green Mountain Boy December 13, 2011 / 12:17 pm

How about the ability to get on an airplane without a government paid worker feeling you up? Does that count as a loss of freedom?

      • Green Mountain Boy December 13, 2011 / 12:24 pm

How about a toilet that flushes properly? You do know its now illegal to buy a toilet that uses more than 1.6 gallons a flush? Oh well thats was 1994 so probably doesn’t count.

We will start off with the 100 watt incandecant lightbulb. As of Jan 1 2012 gone. Poof. The government decided these were no good anymore

so that’s a loss of your freedom? are you one of those people who thinks having to wear a seatbelt is losing your freedom? or having speed limits is losing your freedom?

How about a toilet that flushes properly? You do know its now illegal to buy a toilet that uses more than 1.6 gallons a flush? Oh well thats was 1994 so probably doesn’t count

Do you also believe that Government imposing certain efficiency standards on cars and other home appliances is losing your freedom? Seriously, how does it affect you that you can’t buy an “old” toilet anymore?

Losing freedom has to mean you actually lose something and your life and happiness are therefore affected. You’ll have a hard time arguing that not being able to buy a toilet that uses more than 1.6 gallons takes away your happiness or your right to live your life in freedom.

how about this GMB, why don’t you move to Somalia, or Afghanistan. you can do whatever it is you please, no government!

      • tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 1:10 pm

tommy-boy, it is not about the end result. The real question is does the Congress/President/bureaucracy have the Constitutional authority to impose these on the people?

Yes, not being able to buy a 100W bulb is an impingement on our freedoms.
Not being able to buy a toilet that will function properly is an impingement on our freedoms. BTW, these actions were simply to appease the environmentalists.
“Efficiency standards” are weasel words to justify these actions and the weak minded drones such as yourself fall for it every time. Again, the government does not have the authority to outright ban legal products on a whim. “To regulate commerce” was never meant to impose restrictions on legal and safe products.

Tommy-boy is of the sect who will gladly trade freedom for imagined “security”, and that is more of a threat to freedom than anything else.

Booo. Bad form, old man. IP and email addresses are not weapons to be used against participants. They’re for blocking spam, illegal and threatening posts.

The successful blog moderator’s prime directive is to keep it civil, and keep visitors coming back for the free exchange of ideas supported by the traffic-derived income – not busting chops.

        Wait… never mind.

      • Feel the Fang December 13, 2011 / 1:52 pm

Now freakzo is lecturing us on “bad form”.

I always thought the reason blogs asked for email addresses was to be sure that those posting were real people, with real addresses, and to provide some security for the blog in case legal authorities need to track down a poster for some reason. They’re not just for “…. blocking spam, illegal and threatening posts.”

Providing fake email addresses circumvents that safety measure, and I think anyone using a fake email address ought to be cut off from the blog.

I’m sure the moderators appreciate your lecture on their appropriate role on the blog, as well. But you are not the arbiter of what a moderator’s job may be.

BTW, I notice that you have still not answered my question about the relationship between the odor that so offended you in Odessa and fracking.

Dean has the backing of 23 percent of likely primary voters, the same as he did in the days just prior to Saddam’s capture, and up from 14 percent in November. His nearest rivals today are Wesley Clark and Joe Lieberman, both at 10 percent.

    (Democratic primary voters)
    Howard Dean

  7. tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 1:52 pm

    Typo, wally.

Clearly the number 8.6 is less than 9.0. But for the functionally illiterate (you included) who needs little pictures to make them (and you) understand I can see where your shortcomings could cause a problem. It was a graphical error nothing more, unless you have hard proof that it was done intentionally – and saying so doesn’t count.

That is the reason why drones (you included) can’t understand the Constitution and more complex ideas, there are no pretty little pictures to accompany them.

I see you are posting under “The Truth” again. Is this another joke? I can see posting once under “The Truth” to be a joke, but several and to different individuals? Not so.

You just needed a way to back track and protect your dainty ego after being so easily made the fool with that one.

    • tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 6:28 pm

Me: “Clearly the number 8.6 is less than 9.0.”

Wally: “Not according to the Fox News graph. But what else can be expected of the network whose viewers are consistently the most misinformed around?”

Basic math hasn’t changed wally. Again, graphical error. Anyone who believes otherwise as you do are not misinformed by a news agency but are completely ignorant.

8.6 will always be less than 9.0 no matter how it is represented in a graph, chart, or other illustrative quantity.

I’d draw you a picture but this is a text only response.

If you put wally’s brains into a pistachio nut shell, then his brain would rattle around like a BB in a boxcar.

What a moron! Oh, I have embarrassed you again and shown you to be the fool that you are – I expect another F-Bomb to be dropped since he can’t reply with any substance.

      • tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 7:47 pm

No wally, the point is that most people will see that graph for what it is – 1) 8.6 is less than 9.0 and 2) a graphical error – you and your fellow ignorant mindless drones won’t see it that way. You need pretty little pictures for you to understand such a simple concept.

Buuuuttttt nooooooo, to you it is a conspiracy by FOX news to “misinform” the populace. If the “populace” is that easily misinformed then they are the product of government schools who pass individuals so their self-esteem or dainty egos won’t be harmed.

For you to keep this stupid “gotcha” thread going is a desperate attempt at preserving your dainty ego that those government “educators” did not want to damage.

Again, for “TheTruth” to be a joke, you sure are posting alot under that inaccurate name you have chosen. Jokes are normally an extreme exaggeration so, it is an extreme exaggeration that “the truth” would apply to you and now you have admitted as much.

You responded as I predicted no substance in your post, however you did not drop the F-bomb only because I brought it up. Had I not, you would have it never stopped you before.

        Try again, useful idiot drone.

      • tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 10:17 pm

Wally , might I suggest “Idiots Guide to Elementary Math” or “Basic Math for Dummies” to help yo with your obvious deficiency?

Why is it so hard for you to post anything of substance and show an infinitesimal ounce of intelligence?

Oh that’s right, you believe obAMATEUR’s tax increases, which have been signed into law, are tax cuts.

      • tiredoflibbs December 13, 2011 / 11:03 pm

Wally states:”So me knowing that 8.6 is less than 9.0 and therefore being able to laugh at Fox News’ pitifully stupid graph is a deficiency?”

And then has his usual childish meltdown…

No, wally you are trying to pass off 8.6 is equal to 9.0 due to Fox News’ obvious graphical error. I see two numbers one less than the other. You are ignoring the numbers and whining about a flat line on a graph and jumping up and down screeching “see Fox News is misleading and misinforming!!!!”

The rest of your post is just your usual lies and screed about nothing, so desperate are you to repair your dainty little ego.

      • tiredoflibbs December 14, 2011 / 7:25 am

Again wally just responds with no substance and is still stuck on stupid with the graphical error as a conspiracy by Fox News to “mislead” or “misinform” their wally-like unintelligent viewers.

And as predicted, he drops the F-bomb.

        Typical and pathetic.

Interesting note: An IP check on wally/bodie/slccr/TheTruth/monty/mburns/montyburns/jeffy (do I have them all? probably not…) shows his access to be in the San Francisco area…..

        … explains alot …..

      • tiredoflibbs December 14, 2011 / 1:00 pm

No wally, not all their viewers just their unintelligent ones – the ones like you, you know the ones more likely to vote Democrat if they vote at all – they are more interested in who will win the next American Idol than anything else.

You have nowhere to go with your illogical of saying that FOX News tried to pass off 8.6 is equal to 9.0. The numbers were plainly listed on the graph, as the nose on your face. But you continue your theme of conspiracy by FOX News to deceive your fellow drones with “misinformation”.

I guess when YOU and your fellow drones need pretty little pictures to explain everything to you is is no wonder you can’t understand anything else like the Constitution, tax increases, simple numbers, unemployment figures, etc. etc. – more BB in a boxcar mentality.

When you vote, do you need a picture of the candidate next to the name?

Based on your newly revealed shortcomings, yes! How can you stand looking at that picture of the Hag from Haite-Ashbury Pelosi?

Try again drone, your use of the F-bomb reveals your frustration at not getting anywhere with your dumbed down talking points for the typical ignorant Democrat voter.

      • tiredoflibbs December 14, 2011 / 8:21 pm

wally melts down AGAIN: “Except, of course, for the visual evidence, which evidently is far too sophisticated for you. Christ, you’re F-bomb stupid.”

Oh, you mean the visual evidence that states unemployment at 9.0% and then at 8.6%? Literate people would see that regardless of what the line says. That is your problem, you have down-graded yourself from a reading comprehension problem to illiterate.

Or, did you ignore the numerical evidence and just looked at the erroneous straight line? Again, you need pictures to understand the most simple concept. They made the silhouettes on bathroom doors just for you, since you kept going to the wrong one.

Again, you accept some evidence and not the evidence that makes you the total fool and regurgitating useful idiot that you are.

It is hysterical the FALSE bravado you portray but still can’t resist using the F-bomb. When a liberal useful idiot reaches that point, it is because his dumbed down talking points are not working.

        Hint: They never will.

Time to change your alias again…. you have worn this one out completely.

      • tiredoflibbs December 15, 2011 / 7:35 am

Apparently, mindless useful idiot drones like wally perceive an overlooked error on a chart where the graph line is flat, while stating accurate unemployment numbers, to be a major problem at misinformation, but obvious lies and deceit by MSNBC is not.

How many viewers will now believe that Romney is a member of the clan, eh wally?

You are such a mindless hack. Are you waiting for the next set of talking points from the Hag from Haite-Ashbury?

      • tiredoflibbs December 15, 2011 / 8:56 pm

“Yes, keep running from those damn dirty facts, tired! They’re all personal attacks meant to trick you, and they’re overused anyway, right?”

Who’s running? I’ve debunked every one of your fact-less pathetic little attempts at spun “gotchas”. Too bad you are too stupid to understand basic math, that way you could realize that you have 0 wins and 100s of errors. But why should I expect an individual who argues that 9.0 is equal to 8.6 because the graph line is straight rather than down-sloping? It was an obvious oversight, but the numbers (which are more important than pretty pictures for slow witted individuals such as yourself) were correct so there is no conspiracy to mislead its viewers.

“By the way, are you blaming MSNBC for the fact that Romney chose to use a KKK slogan? Of course you are. You’re too stupid to do anything else.”

Another lie by wally. MSNBC, apologized for nothing then?

Face it wally, you are a hack. When you can’t convince anyone to believe your BS you throw your tantrums and as usual resort to using F-bombs like any other whiny liberal.

It is not that I am sensitive, I purposefully bring it up to show that you are nothing but a whiner and act like a child when you can’t get your way. Your posts do not contain any substance just your usual mental excrement (a polite way of saying you have sh!t for brains) no facts no nothing.

Of course, such tact flies over your head. Again, if you put your brain in a pistachio shell it would rattle around like a BB in a boxcar. I can hear your BB rattling all the way here on the east coast!

Now remember, you want to go through the door that does not have the silhouette of the person wearing the dress, but then again the way you argue and whine, you may as well wear one.

      • tiredoflibbs December 15, 2011 / 9:38 pm

ah, wally again, cherry picks FACTS and ignores others.

So in your eyes, obAMATEUR saying Karl Marx rhetoric and Marxist-like slogans does not make him a Marxist.

BUUUUTTTTT, Romney stating something close to a Klan slogan (one for which MSNBC apologized) does make him “Klan related”. You completely ignored and ducted my question of you regarding MSNBC’s attempt at misleading its viewers.

Wow, if anyone is running from the facts, these latest two would make you a sprinter!

Wally, your desperation to save your fragile dainty little ego is hysterical in the least.

I can still hear your BB rattling over here.

My hand is starting to hurt from bitch-slapping you repeatedly.

      • tiredoflibbs December 20, 2011 / 7:24 am

No wally, I did not respond because in your usual fashion you distort what I said PLUS after reading your response it is clear that you will accept nothing but obAMATEUR quoting Karl Marx VERBATIM!!!

… and not the MARXIST-LIKE slogans I said originally.

My quote: “So in your eyes, obAMATEUR saying Karl Marx rhetoric and Marxist-like slogans does not make him a Marxist.”

Your response is the typical gotcha set-up requesting “actual Karl Marx” slogans. You are such a coward to distort my words so you can save your damaged and dainty ego from being the proven fool and liar that you are.

Your ACTUAL meltdown responses are hysterical with all the name calling, vitriol, personal attacks and NO SUBSTANCE that you are so infamous for.

You are the quintessential mindless liberal drone who melts down and resorts to childish hysterical profanity when you can’t get your way and no one wants to listen to your projection and whining.

Wally/jeffy you again demonstrate the tired old liberal tactic of repeating the same action and expecting a different result.

        You are one pathetic soul.

      • tiredoflibbs December 20, 2011 / 12:54 pm

wally the whiner:”Well, it was nice of you to just flat-out admit that you’re a cowardly little p*ssy who’s dodging having to provide any proof of his claims because he knows he can’t provide any.”

        Keep the lie going wally.

Obviously, you did not read my reply nor did you read my quote from my earlier post. You just keep lying about it or is your reading comprehension that pathetic?

You just continue to live in Wally’s World – your land of make believe where actual facts have no meaning.

You proved my point earlier where to you Romney only has to “sound” Klanish for you to believe the misleading info that MSNBC put out there for which they have retracted and apologized.

While, in your eyes, obAMATEUR has to be 100% certifiable Marxist for him to sound Marxist. To you, he can utter Marxist-like slogans and Marxist-like rhetoric and still not be a Marxist. This is where your fiction meets fact.

It is amazing how you can separate the two comparisons. You have one broad set of standards for non-liberals and a very narrow set of standards for your lib masters.

As far as proof goes, you will not accept anything but obAMATEUR quoting Marx VERBATIM! But here is a start of proof in the real world, obAMATEUR says “he wants to spread the wealth around” (Marxist like slogan from “from each according to his means, to each according to his needs”) and his rhetoric on “fairness”, “class warfare”, “wealth envy” and government centralization of part of industry are all Marxist rhetoric and ideals.

Keep up distorting and lying about what I said, jeffy. That is the only way for you to repair the damage I have wrought on your fragile and dainty little ego. You cannot take much more pounding – you are running out of lies and mindless talking points.

You last meltdown proves that I have your panties in a bunch and you just can’t unravel them without lying, distorting and insulting the opposition because you can’t have your way with the actual facts.

        You are one pathetic soul.

      • tiredoflibbs December 20, 2011 / 7:33 pm

No wally, oh simple minded one, your reading incomprehension has confirmed you to be the ass that you portray.

You are lying about what I said and using that lie to claim another one. I like the way you deflect once again.

Read it again and get back to me.

Let’s see, you started this thread with the unemployment numbers by FOX News and you claim that they intentionally mislead their viewers to now obama’s Marxist-like rhetoric and slogans. You keep deflecting in order to keep your precious, dainty little ego from getting to bruised.

You want verbatim quotes but that is not what I said. But you continue to lie requesting “evidence” of such verbatim quotes. I said you are not going to accept anything that is not verbatim quotes and then you lie again claim that I admit to not having any.

WOW, you should run for office! The lies you tell will give obAMATEUR a run for his money. Your BB in the boxcar is rattling more and more. The more it rattles the more you lose control and post your childish rantings of profanity – the usual indicator a mindless liberal drone has nothing of substance.

That new alias is looking better and better.

    • tiredoflibbs December 20, 2011 / 10:09 pm

wally continues the lie (and pathetic whining): “(you) lied about what I requested”

What you requested: “What “Karl Marx slogans” has Obama used? Not “things that tired has been told are Marxist, and he’s too stupid to know otherwise, so he dutifully insists that they’re ‘Marxist’ like the dumbf*ck he is,” ACTUAL “Karl Marx slogans.””

What I claimed you wanted: “it is clear that you will accept nothing but obAMATEUR quoting Karl Marx VERBATIM!!!”

Apparently, you need to learn the definition of “actual”. Until you get my claim correct, you can’t begin to understand the proof I already provided. Concentrate on the words “Marxist-like” and “rhetoric”.

Why did you ask for something then deny what you asked for?

Easy, you are a perpetual liar. You lie constantly. You change and distort what posters claim – a lie. Then you lie about what you want – another lie. Then again, you lie about what you originally claimed and/or what you wanted … more lies.

You have been exposed wally. You are a pathetic little hack who has nothing but pathetic little “gotcha” moments and no substance.

Now go ahead and squeal some more……

      • tiredoflibbs December 21, 2011 / 5:25 pm

No wally, it is not my fault you won’t accept the FACTS that obAMATEUR has used MARXIST-LIKE slogans and rhetoric, some listed in a previous post.

Your history of cherry-picking through facts while ignoring those you want to keep your dainty ego undamaged is proof enough that you cannot accept any sort of fact that goes against what you have been told.

Perhaps, if you had not attended a government school you would know the influence of Marx in obAMATEUR’s rhetoric. Examples of which are in an earlier post.

Now go ahead with your usual profanity and lies since you cannot post anything of substance or perhaps now would be a good time for another deflection?

        Squeal some more drone.

      • tiredoflibbs December 23, 2011 / 8:05 am

Now I have reduced little whiny Wally to the typical liberal f-bomb dropping drone when he has nothing substantive to post and his usual BS isn’t working. This goes against the dialectic he was told could not fail but sadly (for him) does every time.

Again weasel, I posted examples of Marxist-like rhetoric you just can’t bring yourself to accept facts that go against your indoctrination.

He did not criticize half his administration for not “paying their fair share” as he does the rest of the nation who are more likely to employ individuals.

Why does he hate the average business owner?

  12. RetiredSpook December 14, 2011 / 11:22 am

    Headlines at MarketWatch this morning:

U.S. stocks open lower, extending losses into a third day, as Italy’s borrowing costs rise to a record high after debt auction and the euro breaks through an 11-month low against the U.S. dollar.

    • Money managers fear a euro-zone breakup | Crisis hits German growth | Rate cut in Norway

And we aren’t just talking about a few contrarians either:

Nearly half of all institutional money managers now fear a partial break-up of the euro zone, a new survey revealed.

And nearly 75% predict that the U.S. debt will be downgraded still further by ratings agencies.

Yup, things are getting better, that’s for sure.

    • Cluster December 14, 2011 / 1:32 pm

But Spook, you don’t understand how bad things could have been. Speaking of bad things, we sure don’t hear much from Debbie Wasserman-Schultz anymore do we? Do you think they keep her on a short leash?

      • tiredoflibbs December 14, 2011 / 8:25 pm

Apparently the leash is not short enough.

Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson: “Unemployment has gone up precipitously since he took office.”

DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “That is simply not true. In fact, unemployment has now dropped below 9%. It’s continuing to drop. He’s been focused on – ”

Carlson: “Yes, but it’s higher than when they promised that the stimulus would lower it to 8%.”

Wasserman Schultz: “That narrative doesn’t work for you anymore.”

Carlson: “It’s not my narrative. I’m just talking about facts of where the unemployment numbers are.”

Wasserman Schultz: “You just said that the unemployment rate is going up since he took office, and it hasn’t.”

Carlson: “Is unemployment higher now than when President Obama took office?”

Wasserman Schultz: “What’s happened since President Obama took office – “

Carlson: “Is unemployment higher than when he took office?”

Wasserman Schultz: “Unemployment is nearing right around where it was when President Obama took office and it’s dropping. You just said that it’s been increasing and that’s not true.”

It like wally trying to convince us that 8.6 is the same as 9.0 because the line on the graph says so while ignoring the factual numbers.

  13. bardolf December 14, 2011 / 4:37 pm

Revealed: huge increase in executive pay for America’s top bosses
Exclusive survey shows America’s CEOs enjoyed pay hikes of up to 40% last year – with one chief executive earning $145 million.

Chief executive pay has roared back after two years of stagnation and decline. America’s top bosses enjoyed pay hikes of between 27 and 40% last year, according to the largest survey of US CEO pay. The dramatic bounceback comes as the latest government figures show wages for the majority of Americans are failing to keep up with inflation.

THESE are Obama’s homies. This is why Obama will win in 2012. Can anyone doubt that Obamacare has been good for the health care industry when a CEO takes home $145 million dollars in a year?

    • Green Mountain Boy December 14, 2011 / 5:45 pm

May have been good for the health care executive in this case but for the industry as a whole. You know better Bardolf.

    • Count d'Haricots December 14, 2011 / 5:57 pm

health care industry when a CEO takes home $145 million dollars in a year?”

Uh, Bar-disingenuous, Did you read your article?

Top earner John Hammergren at McKesson, the world’s largest * healthcare firm, made $145,266.91 last year – most of it from stock options.

      * McKesson helps health care providers improve business health and deliver better care to patients. As a pharmaceutical distributor and health care information technology company, McKesson provides systems for medical supply management, clinical workflow, practice management, pharmacy automation and care management.

Now why can’t those pesky facts comport to ‘dolf’s agenda?

And no one can explain why the rich getting richer is a problem.

      • bardolf December 15, 2011 / 2:05 pm

        Count of Cant

How disingenuous is it to pretend stock options are not part of a compensation package? That a CEO has no control over the price of the stock at the company he controls?

Pharmaceutical distributors are precisely the group that Obama has been accused of sucking up to

You need to turn off the filter where reality is what you believe it to be facts not withstanding. You’re pretty good at finding rationalizations for poor behavior, that’s known as sophistry.

One can readily verify the skills a Tiger Woods or Yo Yo Ma have which justify their earnings. However, when the rich get rich because of government support it should be a problem for fiscal conservatives. But of course you probably believe Newt got money from Fannie Mae for his historical analysis.

      • Count d'Haricots December 16, 2011 / 3:39 pm

“How disingenuous is it to pretend stock options are not part of a compensation package?”

You’re the nit-wit claiming the CEO received a “40% pay hike with one CEO making $145 million” when the two issues are probably unrelated and increases in stock value is never considered “pay hikes” regardless of how the stocks are acquired.

“That a CEO has no control over the price of the stock at the company he controls?”

Seriously? You really don’t understand options do you? Do a little research and we’ll pick this up after you’re better educated.

As to the value of a CEO; yours is the typical response from someone who doesn’t understand business or how the company director’s justify their relative contributions. Lower level drones simply assume the Mahogany Row Suits are just window dressing and the bottom feeders are doing all the work making the company successful. Until you’ve breathed the rarified air you will never understand the equity of the executive.

As a former Director of Financial Planning for a medium-sized retail concern I had the privilege to work directly with a CEO and a COO and saw firsthand how their efforts/expertise/talent/knowledge paid dividends. I also saw how a bad executive team can destroy a company or an industry.

Simply because you are unable to “readily verify” their “skills” doesn’t preclude them from having them; after all, you seem unable to readily verify your own deficiencies and that hasn’t slowed you down from pontificating on everything under God’s Heaven.

      • Amazona December 17, 2011 / 12:13 pm

dolf also can’t explain how the compensation for executives has any impact at all on any part of his life.

Would some of this money go to him if the CEO didn’t get it?

He is such a perfect example of class envy and irrational resentment.

dolf is obviously a very smart guy in some specific areas. He could probably have used his talents for mathematics to get an executive level position with some company, or to start one of his own. His area of expertise is devoid of emotional influence, so he would probably do pretty well.

But it would also involve competition, and responsibility, and accountability, so he went for teaching at a small mid-level state school, where he can be a biggish fish in a very small pond—-and sneer in assumed superiority at those who had the courage and ambition to put their skills on the line.

        Petty petty petty.

BTW, when I was watching Ron Paul the other night, I was able to see why dolf relates to him. dolf’s posts have that same whiny quality and that same disconnect from reality that I saw in Paul.

  14. Count d'Haricots December 14, 2011 / 6:22 pm

“Ron Paul questioned Wednesday whether he would be able to endure a protracted fight for the Republican presidential nomination, wondering to reporters if he would be able to “hold up” through a long primary battle.

I’m not looking forward to anything being long and protracted. So I hope it ends rather quickly and we do real well in the beginning of the year,” Paul said while campaigning in New Hampshire, according to CNN. “The organization is fantastic. The question is: am I going to hold up if I keep doing all this.”

In addition to being loopy he admists he’s also a feeble old man; Sparkling, just sparkling!

    • Green Mountain Boy December 14, 2011 / 8:29 pm

It is also rumored that after this interview was over, Mr. Paul poked his head out the door one more time and screamed, “get off my lawn”.
      No independent confirmation is available.

  15. Green Mountain Boy December 14, 2011 / 6:24 pm

Bardolf, I am kind of curious here. At what level of income to you consider someone rich?

    • Count d'Haricots December 14, 2011 / 6:37 pm

      A full professor and up.

      • Eagle Eye December 15, 2011 / 10:37 am

    • bardolf December 15, 2011 / 1:52 pm

I would call someone who can reliably average $250,000 per year clean (after taxes) a rich person. That amount would, in 10 years, afford a million dollar house, tuition at Harvard for 2 children, brand new Ford mustangs every 3 years, top notch health care, a gourmand’s eating style ($10,000 per year should suffice) and pretty nice vacations ($20,000 per year should suffice) and decent clothing.

I don’t think rich requires owning your own olympic size swimming pool or helicopter or you would have to say the kings of England were not rich until the 20th century. That seems pretty silly.

      • Count d'Haricots December 15, 2011 / 3:11 pm

Typical liberal class-warfare pap. Deciding on how much the “rich” can consume? $10 grand wouldn’t cover neo’s Applebee bar tab.

$250.0K may buy you luxury digs in New Mexico but not in San Francisco or New York. That will get you in a slum with a barking dog to protect your spinners.

On the other hand $100.0k/year will get you some pretty fancy lodgings in Luna County, and have enough left over for a helicopter.
