Obama Runs a Deficit

No, not just a US deficit – but a personal, campaign deficit:

Amid a heavy barrage of advertising by opposing “super” political groups, President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign spent more than it collected in June. While outraised again by Republican Mitt Romney…

To be sure, at the end of June Obama still had nearly $100 million on hand, but the fact that he’s burning through money faster than he takes it in doesn’t bode well – he’ll needs sacks of cash for the  September-November sprint and right now it appears that Romney will at the very least match him and may end up outspending him (and this is keeping out of the picture the super-PACs working for both sides).  This is undisciplined – this is a campaign which is not running effectively.  The vaunted Obama machine seems to be getting itself in to trouble – but no surprise to me because I never had any respect for Obama’s 2008 effort…he coasted to a win against a man who simply refused to hit hard (Obama also had a huge number of outside factors working in his favor).

But here’s the real kicker – with all this massive advertising and spending more than he took in, Obama didn’t move the electorate even an inch closer to him.  Even the biased, pro-Obama MSM polling still shows him in a bad position:  approval rating under 50%, now less than four months before election day.

“Competing fiercely to keep the presidency, Obama reported more than $46 million in June and total spending of $58 million.”

So if he continues to spend $12 million a month more than he is bringing in, he will only have 50 or 60 million to spend in the last month.

This is a good tie for Obama to be spending his money. He is trying to define Romney in the voters minds. Might work, might not.

That is, indeed, what he’s trying to do – but Romney is hitting back just enough, and in enough of the right spots, so that it is proving ineffective. The needle hasn’t moved – at best, Obama is where he was at the start of June, though I suspect there has been further erosion of his support.

cappy: “He is trying to define Romney in the voters minds.”

obAMATEUR 2008 Convention: “And that’s to be expected, because if you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare voters.

If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things.”

Yep he is trying to define Romney in the uniformed voters’ minds … those voters who typically vote DEMOCRAT no matter what.

It’s not just a deficit of money that Obama is struggling with, but also a deficit of ideas. A deficit of experience, a deficit of honesty, a deficit of decency, and a deficit of humility.

Next time you hear the mentally deficient President speak of “fair share”, keep this in mind:

The One Percent paid an average effective tax rate of 28.9 percent on their income — far more than any other group, and more than twice the average effective rate of the middle class, who paid 11 percent on average.

It seems to me that the rich are paying their fair share, so according to liberalism, everything should be just great, right? Just tax the rich, and everything will be great right?

Latest embarrassing Obama fundraising gimmick is downright creepy
        Thomas Lifson

The Obama campaign has a serious disconnect when it comes to understanding the boundaries between a political candidate and people’s real lives. Apparently the vast campaign organization in Chicago that was burning through money faster than they could raise it last month is full of acolytes who really buy into the whole lightworker, messiah illusion.

Late in June, as the cash deficit must have seemed awfully scary, the campaign came up with the Bridal Registry, which presumed brides would ask guests to give to the campaign rather than a gravy boat or chafing dish. It has been an embarrassing flop. The New York Post reports:
