Just another day on the road to victory:
What is really good is that this is after a week or ten days of Obama relentlessly speaking out on behalf of his “save my job” program…keep it up, Barry!
From the Washington Times:
Former Godfather Pizza CEO Herman Cain won the Presidency 5 straw poll here Saturday, delivering a blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s frontrunner status and a victory for a candidate who has struggled to transform his grassroots popularity into strong showings in national polls.
“Tonight’s winner is Herman Cain,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced. “It shows you something, the road to the White House come through Florida, and it pays to spend time here.”
He received 37 percent of the more than 2,600 votes cast…
Lots of people will say lots of things about this and some of them will be quite well-informed and illuminating. I’ll say this: victory in the GOP nomination will go to the guy (or gal) who gets the most votes…no one really knows how it will come out or who will win. This may be a flash in the pan for Cain (though I think it reflects a reservoir of good will for him in the GOP electorate), but it clearly shows that for all the Perry/Romney/Bachmann talking headism of the MSM (and a lot of the New Media), the GOP electorate has not settled on a candidate.
Here’s a thought – why don’t we let this fine collection of men and women state their positions, hash things out in open debate, and then we voters go to the polls and decide who wins? Once that has happened, we’ll have a nominee and everyone who isn’t an Obama zombie will then have the duty of enthusiastically supporting the nominee to ensure that Obama leaves office on January 20th, 2013. That, at least, is how I think it should go.
From Zero Hedge:
The Obama administration has been fiercely lobbying European governments and central banks to shut up and do something. No more disagreements in public, Timothy Geithner told them in Poland. No more disputes over fundamental issues. To heck with democratic problem resolution. The world is collapsing, and it’s time to act boldly and decisively. Hank Paulson’s extortion racket is back.
This time, it isn’t Congress and American taxpayers that are targeted, but the Europeans, or rather a select few, in particular certain recalcitrant elements in the German government and in the Bundesbank. The White House brandishes the big fix of 2008 and 2009. That’s how we fixed our crisis, that’s how you should fix yours, they say.
Alas, the big fix of 2008 and 2009 today: Withered green shoots, high unemployment, annual budget deficits near 10% of GDP, and a gargantuan pile of debt…
So, why would Obama and Co want the Europeans to do that? Because they are afraid that an European collapse will drop the whole world in to Depression and that would kill off any chance of Obama getting re-elected. It doesn’t matter that duplicating our efforts 2008-09 would ultimately fail and, indeed, leave Europe and the world worse off…all that matters is getting the economy to limp past November, 2012 without a Great Depression.
This is a Ruling Class in panic…worried that it really is all coming to an end. But here’s Obama’s problem – he’s got to get the Germans to agree to kill their own economy in order to bail out Greece, Spain, etc…and if Germany agrees to do that, then Chancellor Merkel will be crushed at the next German elections. Merkel must politically die so that Obama may politically live…and, if you polled the Ruling Class, that would probably be considered a good outcome. Obama has become the lynch pin of a corrupt, self-serving, global elite…if he goes, the sort of reforms to be enacted in the United States would pave the way for the rest of the world’s people to reform themselves. But, will Merkel do it?
That remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen whether such actions by Europe can really save the day. I don’t think they can…I think the debt has piled so high and the insolvency has spread to widely in the financial system that nothing can really stop the crash. But, we shall see. But remember what is going on here – the Ruling Class is trying to save itself. Whatever they say, remember what the real goal is: Saving Obama.
From Newsmax:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential race — and he says he will let top Republican donors know within days about his plans, Newsmax has learned.
During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.
These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney…
In my view, the only person who could stop Christie would be Palin…if he gets in, he’s the Republican nominee for President…and most likely the next President of the United States of America.
Stay tuned.
From Investors.com:
The 48-year-old Brent Spence Bridge spanning the Ohio River near Cincinnati isn’t much to look at. But for President Obama, it’s become a rallying cry for his $477 billion jobs plan.
He referred to it in his Sept. 8 speech to Congress, saying “there’s a bridge that needs repair between Ohio and Kentucky that’s on one of the busiest trucking routes in North America.” …
…Although some press accounts have described Brent Spence as “crumbling,” and the White House says it’s an example of “urgently needed” repairs, the bridge isn’t falling apart. In fact, it’s designed to last for decades more…
The bridge does have a problem – its too small for the amount of traffic crossing it. So, the plan is to build an additional bridge next to it…but that isn’t scheduled to start for three for four years, putting it outside the Obama timetable of two years for the projects in his jobs bill. In other words, the bridge doesn’t in any way relate to the things Obama wants to do…only a bonehead would go there as an example of “crumbling infrastructure” that you want to repair right away. This is right up there with using a company that is outsourcing jobs as a backdrop for your bill to create more jobs.
Its like the Obama people just don’t care – they just want their photo ops and sound bites and are expecting that the MSM, as it did in 2008, will keep a lid on any criticism. Trouble is, the New Media has grown exponentially since then and Obama no longer has the ability to be a “stealth candidate”. We know all about him – and we’re tired of him.
2012 can’t get here fast enough…and I’m really looking forward to it.
From the Miami Herald:
…After trailing Obama by more than 20 percentage points in polls all year, the new national survey, taken Sept. 13-14, found Palin trailing the president by just 5 points, 49-44 percent. The key reason: She now leads Obama among independents, a sharp turnaround.
Overall, the gains among Republicans “speak to Obama’s decline among independents generally, and how the middle is not his right now,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the national survey…
She is not even an announced candidate and she’s been the victim of a three year long slander campaign which did not even spare her children from the muck…and she’s only five points back of The One! This is the kind of poll which is going to make Democrats reach for the antacid.
We actually are fortunate to have him as our President – he has made liberalism toxic. Victor Davis Hanson runs down the ways and then concludes:
…Had McCain been elected, or had Obama proved a canny Clinton triangulator, we would never have gotten out of the bipartisan rut of massive borrowing, growing government, higher taxes, and unionized public employee regulators. But with Obama as the great liberal deliverer and with the masses scared to death of Him, the next president will inherit an America in catharsis. The future is uncertain, but at least now, after our cauterizing, we have some sort of chance to return to the old principles that might save us.
Carter made liberalism a dirty word. It wasn’t until 2008, with Obama, that liberalism was rehabilitated and people could actually call themselves that and not be laughed off…we had forgotten. We had, that is, forgotten Carter…just how lousy he was and just how destructive liberalism is. But now we’ve had Obama applying it to America and we’re falling apart…and people are noticing.
Revolution is coming – just as Carter’s liberalism allowed us to usher in the Reagan Revolution, so will Obama’s liberalism herald the Second American Revolution. And this time I think we’re going to win so big that the liberals won’t be able to stop us, at all…always remember that Reagan was stymied by Democrat control of the House. He couldn’t ever go all out…in 2013, the next Republican President might have such a large Congressional majority that we can steam roller through whatever we please…and after the Obama dose of liberalism, the people will be eager to back any plan for radical reform.
Everyone does have a purpose – and perhaps Obama’s was to destroy liberalism? Time will tell…
From the Jerusalem Post:
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry will hold a press conference with American and Israeli-Jewish leaders in New York on Tuesday in which he is expected to address the upcoming deliberations at the United Nations, MK Danny Danon (Likud), said on Saturday night.
Danon, who will participate at the press conference, said he would ask Perry ahead of the conference to adopt the initiative the MK is advancing to annex Judea and Samaria in response to the unilateral Palestinian moves at the UN…
That does sound like a reasonable plan to me – if the Palestinians are going to do things without relation to the desires of Israel, I see no reason why Israel shouldn’t work the same way. Palestinians get their UN-sponsored State, Israel gets Judea and Samaria. Fair trade, if you ask me.
On the other hand, the Palestinians can get title to Judea and Samaria…all they have to do is make peace with Israel. Real peace – not a sham where they speak words of peace in English for the MSM and then shout “death to the Jews” in so many words in Arabic back home.
Outside of that, it is about time that Perry and the rest of the GOP field started to really differentiate themselves from Obama foreign and defense policies. Obamunism as an economic policy has been bad, but Obamunism as a foreign policy has been a disaster. It is best if you are respected and loved in the world. Failing that, respected is good. In the final analysis, if you can get respect or love, then you’d better be feared. Right now, no one fears us, respects us or loves us. We hit the crest of a wave of power and influence in mid-2003 and its been downhill since then…courtesy of the American left which first sabotaged Bush, and then ensured that Obama went from bad to worse in foreign policy. And terribly sorry, liberals, but killing bin Laden doesn’t make up for it.
We’ve got Iran on the march to nuclear weapons and starting to interfere in neighboring States; Islamist governments look to take control of both Libya and Egypt; the Assad regime in Syria is maintaining itself in power; Turkey is becoming overtly anti-Israeli and bidding for leadership of Islamism; Russia is throwing spokes in our wheel at every opportunity and China is building a military to challenge us in the western Pacific. We’re in a pickle and it’ll be ten years of hard work before we can restore our position.
In this, Perry has picked out the right cause – the extinction of Israel is a goal of all American enemies…be they open enemies like the Islamists or disguised enemies like European bureaucrats seeking to degrade the United States to secondary power status. Israel is hated – anti-Semitism is on the rise; the only thing in favor of backing Israel is the fact that backing Israel is the absolutely right thing to do. By so doing we lay down the marker…we draw the line in the sand and say, “not one bit further”. Here, we fight, if necessary. Here we shout defiance at the world and tell them that for Americans basic, human decency still calls the shots…we won’t allow another Holocaust; we won’t surrender the Jews to death in order to buy a half decade of peace for ourselves. From that firm base, we can then go forward to rebuild the rest of our global position…surrender it, and we’ll soon find ourselves completely isolated in a world of enemies gathering for the kill.
So, good for Perry and I hope the rest of the GOP field follows suit.
From the Washington Times:
President Obama’s smooth path to the Democratic nomination may have gotten rockier Monday, after a group of liberal leaders, including former presidential candidate Ralph Nader, announced plans to challenge the incumbent in primaries next year.
The group said the goal is to offer up a handful of candidates from various fields and areas where the president either has failed to stake out a “progressive” position or where he has “drifted toward the corporatist right.”
“Without debates by challengers inside the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries, the liberal/majoritarian agenda will be muted and ignored,” Mr. Nader said in a news release. “The one-man Democratic primaries will be dull, repetitive, and draining of both voter enthusiasm and real bright lines between the two parties that excite voters.”…
For some, this is just a chance to be extra-pure liberals…Obama hasn’t toed an entirely socialist line (ie, he hasn’t instituted a dictatorship and simply enforced socialism, law and constitution be hanged), and so they are going to prove to themselves that they are true blue. On the other hand, there are cynics who know that if there is a kook left challenger to Obama it will allow Obama to shift right and still hold the base.
Unless someone like Hillary breaks ranks, none of this will amount to much. The Democrat machine will ensure overwhelming Obama victories in the primaries and caucuses but the fact of kookism on the march will allow Obama to position himself in what he (and his MSM sycophants) will call the center…able to point right and left and say, “I’m the one who has a reasonable, balanced approach”.
It won’t work, of course…the kook left won’t be able to gain traction and neither will Obama ever appear reasonable. People have tuned him out – no one is terribly interested in what he has to say. We’ve got a long, miserable road to travel to get rid of Obama…all through it will seem as though Obama is doing this, that or the other thing. But, in the end, the race will resolve itself upon the Reagan Question: are you better off than you were four years ago? If the answer is “no” for a majority, then Obama will be beaten. Kook left challenges and attempts to appear centrist won’t matter at all, in the end.
From the AP:
…The president on Monday will announce a proposal that includes repeal of Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers, nearly $250 billion in reductions in Medicare spending, $330 billion in cuts in other mandatory benefit programs, and savings of $1 trillion from the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, the officials said…
…Key features of the proposal:
–$1.5 trillion in new revenue, which would include about $800 billion realized over 10 years from repealing the Bush-era tax rates for couples making more than $250,000. It also would place limits on deductions for wealthy filers and end certain corporate loopholes and subsidies for oil and gas companies.
–$580 billion in cuts in mandatory benefit programs, including $248 billion in Medicare and $72 billion in Medicaid and other health programs. Other mandatory benefit programs include farm subsidies.
–$430 billion in savings from lower interest payment on the national debt…
According to the linked article, 90% of the Medicare cuts will be in the form of reduced payments to providers – and while beneficiaries are expected to pay more, they won’t pay until 2017…in other words, not until after Obama finishes his putative 2nd term. How much you want to bet that once the providers scream – and/or start refusing Medicare cases – that the cuts never materialize?
A trillion dollars of the “cuts” are from not fighting in Afghanistan…in other words, not money already appropriated and now cut, but a mythical figure placed on the table bearing no relation to what might actually happen in Afghanistan.
Lower interest payments on the national debt? Fine – that’ll work until we hit 16 or 17 trillion in debt and our bond prices go “Greek” on us.
This proposal is nothing but a crock of political horse manure. For cynicism it is hard to beat. We’re on the brink of economic and fiscal disaster and Obama comes up with a plan which doesn’t fix the budget and doesn’t help the economy. All it does is provide him with some MSM/DNC talking points in his effort to make the 2012 campaign about Congress rather than himself (the tax hikes won’t fly and the spending cuts will be resisted by his own party…so when the plan fails to pass, Obama can say, “I tried to do it, but those dratted Republicans stopped me!”). The United States can go drop off a cliff…Obama has more important things to do, like getting re-elected!
2012 really can’t get here fast enough…and it won’t work, Barry. We’re all on to the scam. Twist things as much as you like – go ahead and go through your motions. We’re still going to crush you and liberalism next year. We’ve all had enough of this garbage.
