How Do You Want To Be Remembered?

Back in January, 2003, The BCS National Championship college football game was played between the undefeated and number 1 ranked Miami Hurricanes, riding a 34 game winning streak, and the also undefeated and 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. In one of the most exciting games in college football history, the 2-touchdown underdog Buckeyes won 31-24 in double overtime.  On the eve of the big game, an avid Buckeye fan wrote what he thought would be representative of the pre-game speech that Ohio State coach Jim Tressel would (or should) give and posted it on an Internet message board.  It took on a life of its own, and many people to this day believe it’s Tressel’s actual pre-game speech.  Regardless of the illegitimacy of the speech, it contained a memorable line that everyone, at some point in his life should ask himself: “how do you want to be remembered?”

Does anyone think Barack Obama has ever asked himself that question?  How will he be remembered?

Will he be remembered as the president who did more to advance the cause of racial harmony than any previous president?

Will he be remembered as the president who eliminated tedious and burdensome regulations, reined in the out-of-control bureaucrats at the EPA, lowered the corporate tax rate and unleashed the American entrepreneurial spirit to create a new era of prosperity for all?

Will he be remembered as the second coming of FDR, with numerous large public works projects funded by his trillion dollar stimulus?

Will he be remembered, as so many had hoped, as the President who ushered in a new era of world peace, gaining increased respect by both our allies and adversaries alike?

Will he be remembered as the president who achieved what every president since Carter has only talked about and put America on the path to energy independence, opening up federal lands to energy exploration and approving the Keystone Pipeline?

Will he be remembered as the president who finally fulfilled the century-long progressive dream of providing comprehensive, affordable healthcare for everyone?

Will he be remembered as he promised, as the steward of the most transparent and honest administration in American history?

There are so many great things that he could be remembered for, but my guess is that, if historians are honest, the Obama era will go down as one of more missed opportunities than any president in modern times, perhaps than any president period.

Losing The Hearts And Minds

What use to be the battle cry for all progressives, is ironically becoming the albatross that will ultimately result in their demise. Progressives are losing the hearts and minds of Americans, and of people worldwide, an occurrence of which is rightfully earned. Progressives have never concerned themselves with real outcomes and actual results of their altruistic policies and self-superior attitudes. Instead, they focus purely on intent and blame others for their failures and maliciously malign and attack those who question the results. Their smug indifference to their domestic political opposition and to our foreign allies has caught up with them and sadly, their response is not to objectively critique their approach, but to double down on their stupidity. As a result, the Real Clear Politic Polls are not kind. A full 63% of respondents state that the country is headed in the wrong direction; a clear majority disapprove of Obama’s job performance; and a majority oppose the ACA, which was passed on a pure partisan vote as a result of questionable side deals. Even some progressives are starting to question the tactics of the current regime as evidenced by this article from Maureen Dowd, and this excellent piece from Leon Wieseltier of the New Republic, of which I quote:

“The tiresome futurism of Obama, his dogmatic views about what this ritualistically ballyhooed century will be like and what it will not be like, are only a part of what lowers his vision. The bigger problem is that the president feels inconvenienced by history. It refuses to follow his program for it. It regularly exasperates him and regularly disappoints him. It flows when he wants it to ebb and it ebbs when he wants it flow. Like Mr. Incredible, the president is flummoxed that the world won’t stay saved, or agree to be saved at all. After all, he came to save it. And so the world has only itself to blame if Obama is sick of it and going home.”

Obama entered the office in 2009 naïve and inexperienced, and even after 6 years, he has still yet to learn how to properly wield the power of the office. Compassionate policies are fine, but if they don’t bring positive results, they are empty and eventually lose favor. Obama’s progressive domestic policies have been an unequivocal failure, and his foreign policy is completely incoherent if not altogether absent. Our foreign adversaries take advantage of his confusion and weakness and our allies are left to forge new partnerships.

America has wandered down a very bad 6 year path here, but there is a chance to chart a new course this November. We have to shed ourselves of the vacuous progressive demagogues who are only interested in their misguided ideals and own self superiority complex, and find people who harbor a sense of humility and a passion to bring about broad positive outcomes for the people of our country and for those people who need our leadership worldwide.

A New Level Of Distrust

A new poll out today shows that Obama’s indifference and incompetence has shattered the dreams and expectations of many millennials who have lost much trust in him and the federal government. Although when you promise to heal the planet and cause the oceans to recede, and then wind up having trouble getting a new trade agreement with Japan almost 6 years later, it’s easy to see how one can be left a little disappointed.

trust-box-chart

Just think of what the next President will “inherit” from Obama – $18+ trillion in debt; anemic economic growth; delayed ACA regulations; a current regulatory environment that is strangling the economy; persistently high unemployment; an emboldened Russia and Iran; a mess in Syria and Egypt; a distrustful Israel; and a divided country like never before.

However, great opportunity usually can be found in difficult times, and now is the time for conservatives to speak to this generation and others who are now much more receptive to a conservative message, and let them know unequivocally that (in the famous words of Ronald Reagan), “government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem”. In fact, this entire current social and economic situation we find ourselves in is very reminiscent of 1979 and the end of Jimmy Carter’s disastrous administration. The only question is – what is the misery index number?

The GOP’s War on Women Continues!!!!

The pay gap between men and women continues without sign of closing – even after repeated speeches by the pResident.  The GOP still does not pay women equally to men!!!

The White House continues to pay women 88 cents for every dollar men earn….. oh wait!!!

Another sign from the pregressives, do as I say! Not as I do!

Americans Spend More in Taxes Than Food, Clothing and Housing Combined

Tell us something we didn’t already know. But we get the usual drivel, we don’t pay enough.  We are greedy when we say that we pay too much in taxes.  The Pregressives demand more and more and attack us when we ask “when will it be enough”.  After receiving over $3 Trillion in direct revenue per year, they demand more since they want to spend more in social spending.  All the while slashing the military budget to the point that aggressive world leaders take notice.

When will enough be enough for these moochers and thieves?

The Fascism of the Intolerant Left

One of the founders of Mozilla and developer of Java script language, Brandon Eich has been forced out of his CEO position by an unruly mob of the authoritarian progressives.  It seems he made a $1000 contribution supporting California’s Proposition 8, SIX YEARS AGO!

The progressives will not allow a view contrary to theirs. All opposing views must GO!

With that in mind, would these same fascist and mindless progressives demand that the current pResident resign his position for having the same views against gay marriage as did Eich.

Somehow, these fascists will make endless exceptions and excuses.

UPDATE: The left is trying to disguise their tactics on this matter as that of “capitalism”.  People boycotting companies or individuals because they are antithesis of their “values”.  Capitalism, really?  Mozilla did not lose sales on Firefox – their product is FREE.  No capitalism there, perhaps they should look up the word “capitalism” in the dictionary, like they tried to do when the term “fascism” or “fascistic” was applied to this disgusting witch hunt.  As I said, they will find the justification to defend their practice of intolerance (a keyword in the definition of fascism).  But details, never got in their way before.  Besides, there are those who believe that the Eich incident should be just the start:

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/frame_game/2014/04/brendan_eich_quits_mozilla_let_s_purge_all_the_antigay_donors_to_prop_8.html

Purge? Where have I heard that before.

Besides, if conservative companies decided to go after employees or management for having beliefs or actively supported ideas that went against the companies’ “values”, would the left be okay with that.  It is capitalism after all!

Regarding Cookin’ The Books…

In light of the news of the past 24-hours, it perhaps entirely fitting that a TV cook decided to promote Obamacare this past week.

A bit of history as a prelude to this post:
October 30, 2012: Obama can’t get re-elected with an unemployment rate above 8%.

November 4, 2012: 2 days before election–SHAZAMM!!! Books are cooked, unemployment rate at 7.9% (ignoring, of course, those who gave up looking for jobs).

March 30, 2014: Obama woefully in danger of not meeting targeted goal of 7 million subscribers by March 31st. 2014 deadline– another postponement of the deadline would give anti-Obamacare elements endless fodder for Obamacare’s further de-legitimization.

Now, enter March 31, 2014–Zero Hour to deadline: SHAZAM!! Five million people miraculously sign their lives away on the Obamacare website, two million more flood the phone lines.

Does anybody REALLY believe this crap?

First–OK– I’ll give it that yesterday was the deadline–but even if their numbers are true, it doesn’t really portray that people so loved Obamacare that they just couldn’t wait to sign up.
It was either sign up, or get fined. It was coercion, at best.

Second: Obamacare was sold (read: shoved down our throats in the dead of night) as something that was needed because there were, at the time, 30,000,000 uninsured Americans out of a nation of 310,000,000 (9.6%). Which necessarily meant that nine out of ten people were inconvenienced at best and/or lost THEIR coverage at worst so that one out of the ten who weren’t covered in the first place could supposedly get covered.

The last estimates placed over 40,000,000 people who are currently uninsured; with 5-6 million of those uninsured as a DIRECT RESULT of their policies being cancelled under Obamacare. (As a matter of fact, companies offering insurance to males that didn’t cover pregnancy were fined over 2000 percent more per employee than companies who chose not to offer any insurance plan at all–but I digress).

SO– if their numbers are correct (and again–a bit too convenient, if you ask me, to be correct) we haven’t even gotten back to Square One in terms of Obamacare’s stated goals (to insure the 30,000,000 uninsured).

Yet, despite this, despite the perpetually-broken $600 MILLION website paid for with our taxpayer dollars, and most importantly, despite the broken promises made to the American people on so many fronts that you need a scorecard to keep track of them, his royal eminence, wannabe emperor and Grand Poobah of his own reality, Barack Hussein Obama (pbuh) is going to strut to the podium this afternoon and crow to the great unwashed masses that he’s single-handedly saved the nation’s health care system, and there will be more of that where it came from.

And, perhaps most pitiful of all, his dutiful. star-struck, sycophantic stenographer-media sheep, those supposedly charged with being a check and balance against our government, will happily and dutifully re-bleat his maniacal, delusional rantings.

Remember When… Obamacare Was Not Going to Cover Illegals?

The relevant section of the law, also known as Obamacare, is Section 1312 (f)(3), which reads:

“Access limited to lawful residents. If an individual is not, or is not reasonably expected to be for the entire period for which enrollment is sought, a citizen or national of the United States or an alien lawfully present in the United States, the individual shall not be treated as a qualified individual and may not be covered under a qualified health plan in the individual market that is offered through an Exchange.

BUT, Obame promises illegals that their sign up data will not be used to deport them.

“Will we hear from you a pledge, a personal promise, that the information provided in the registration process will not be used for deportation purposes in this country?”

“Absolutely,” Obama said, putting his hand down for emphasis.

Wait…. I though Illegals are not eligible for obamacare?

Remember When…..Obame Said “I Take the Constitution Very Seriously”?

Then, Candidate Obama:
“You know, I taught Constitutional Law for ten years. I take the Constitution very seriously,” he said. “The biggest problems that we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all…

“And that’s what I intend to reverse when I’m president of the United States of America.”

How soon they and he forget!

Now, King Obame 1st with ANOTHER threat to bypass Congress:

And predictably, the mindless drones of the left applauded obame both times, then and now.  As usual, depending who is in the White House, the left will oppose such actions when a non-proggy is in the office and applaud worse actions when one of their own is in the office.

The latest tactic by the left is to bring up the NUMBER of Executive Orders that obame has issued.  It is indeed less than other Presidents, but they don’t want to discuss the CONTENT of those orders since in most cases they violate the rights of the citizen (FDR EO9066 – internment of the Japanese Americans) or violate the Constitution as in obame’s own words that he won’t use EOs or signing statements and “not go through Congress at all”.  Remember as a candidate, he originally emphasized the “checks and balances” of our government and how important it was to maintain it.  He was going to reverse the damage that evil Bush was doing.

Ah, memories…..

More Indicators To Point Out the Failures of Progressivism

State Fiscal Condition: Ranking the 50 States

New research from Sarah Arnett examines states’ abilities to meet their financial obligations in the face of state budget challenges that have far outlasted the Great Recession. Fiscal simulations by the Government Accountability Office suggest that despite recent gains in tax revenues and pension assets, the long-term outlook for states’ fiscal condition is negative (GAO 2013). These simulations predict that states will have yearly difficulties balancing revenues and expenditures due, in part, to rising health care costs and the cost of funding state and local pensions.

Arnett uses four different indices to analyze state solvency using each state’s fiscal year 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report data. She then weights these four indices to create the State Fiscal Condition Index below.

Cash Solvency

A state’s cash solvency takes into account the cash the state can easily access to pay its bills in the near term, reflecting the state government’s liquidity. The map below indicates that most states have enough cash on hand to meet their short-term obligations.

Budget Solvency

A state’s budget solvency is its ability to create enough revenue to cover its expenditures over a fiscal year. Budget solvency varies greatly across states. As the map below shows, in fiscal year 2012-13 states had an operating ratio below 1, indicating a budget deficit.

Long-Run Solvency

Long-run solvency measures a state’s ability to use incoming revenue to cover all its expenditures, including long-term obligations such as guaranteed pension benefits and infrastructure maintenance. Long-run solvency is less sensitive to economic trends than the other measures examined here.

Service-Level Solvency

Service-level solvency is the most difficult to measure because it reflects whether state governments have the resources to provide their residents with an adequate level of services. A state’s service-level solvency is measured using taxes and revenue per capita, along with expenditures per capita.

State Fiscal Condition Index

Using the four solvency indices above, Arnett creates an overall State Fiscal Condition Index. She improves on past research about fiscal metrics by weighting each solvency indicator based on the timeframe in which it will affect state residents. Although the ranking is a snapshot in time, the states at the bottom are there due to years of poor financial management decisions, bad economic conditions, or a combination of the two. New Jersey and Connecticut face similar problems: tax revenues that have not kept up with expenditures, use of budget practices that only appeared to balance their annual budgets, and significant debt levels as a result of decades of using bonds without being able to pay for them (State Budget Crisis Task Force 2012). In addition, both states have underfunded their pension systems, resulting in billions in unfunded liabilities.

 ——-
The above says it all.  Progressivism has and always will be an utter failure.  Taxing the hell out of the “rich” (a definition that keeps changing with each successive Progressive pResident) will not work as shown above and in NORWAY where they, like the Dakotas, drill for oil and exploit their natural resources.  Norway has plenty of revenue to provide for their social programs.  For some reasons, the proggies here refuse to do the same but would rather punish corporations and the rich.  They are punishing those that will provide jobs, create wealth and provide opportunities for the middle class to succeed.
Proggies never learn….. They just keep repeating “it will be different this(next) time.”.
