It’s such a horrible thing, isn’t it? To have to prove you are who you are in order to vote! How dare anyone ask such a horrible thing!
But seriously, if you believe in honest and fair elections, you should be happy about yesterday’s ruling… But it appears that the Democrats aren’t happy.
Democratic insiders fear that a number of states, particularly in the Midwest and South, will copy the Indiana law now that the Supreme Court has upheld it. “There’s the concern for our side that it can spread, other states can do what Indiana did,” said a Democratic strategist. “You may see a lot more of this now.”
That’s right. A lot more “one person, one vote” will ultimately result from the ruling and a lot of “one person, multiple votes” or “one dead person, one vote” will disappear.
Yesterday’s ruling protects my vote from being cancelled out by a fraudulent vote. The same goes for all of you. I can’t tell you how crazy it made me in recent elections when I’ve voted and I’ve never been asked to prove who I was. I’ve offered to show my ID to poll workers and been refused. There’s just something wrong with that.

Back in 2004, Dino Rossi beat Gregoire fair and square, only to have the election turned ’round by Democrats who kept recounting the votes until they came up with the result they liked (much as Democrats tried to do in Florida, 2000). Now we have the re-match, and its neck and neck:
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Washington voters found Governor Christine Gregoire locked in a tight re-election campaign with Republican Dino Rossi. Four years ago, the 2004 election between the same two candidates was one of the closest elections in the state’s history.
Now, looking ahead to the fall of 2008, Rossi leads Gregoire 47% to 46%, a statistically insignificant difference. The two candidates are tied at 44% among unaffiliated voters.
Democrats all across America in 2004 tried to steal elections - voter fraud was rampant and the most disgusting thing about it all was the way Democrats, after losing the Presidential contest, actually had the nerve to claim they were victims of voting irregularities. The really horrible spot was the way they managed to steal the Washington governorship from us - and we must fight to get what we already won in 2004.
Do you live in Washington? Then sign up for the fight.

Just waiting in the wings…
Translation from here, via Brussels Journal:
American presidential elections are not “home affairs.” American decisions have repercussions all over the globe. The American mortgage crisis affects banks in Europe. The insatiable American demand for oil makes the Arabian sheiks rich. The American refusal to care for the environment causes the North Pole ice to melt and coastal areas in Asia to flood. A weakened dollar and an immense budget deficit affect the global economy.
Hence, the world should be given the right to vote. Because the current situation is a blatant case of taxation without representation, against which the Americans rebelled in 1776. But of course the world will not be allowed to vote. The best we can hope for is that the Americans choose a leader who is deeply aware of the U.S.’s responsibility, as a superpower, for the rest of mankind.
The international community was able to limit America’s hegemony somewhat through organisations for international consultation, agreements and the corresponding judicial apparatus. But that system is in crisis, partly through the actions of the current American president.
So liberal Europeans are demanding the right to vote in U.S. elections.
Well, democrats have had proven track records with dead voters and illegal immigrants, so why not let the Europeans have their say as well?
Perhaps the democrats should hold their next debate in Amsterdam.
