A Liberal Whine: Obama Not Playing Race Card, Enough

From Ta-Nehisi Coats in The Atlantic:

…From the “inadequate black male” diatribe of the Hillary Clinton supporter Harriet Christian in 2008, to Rick Santelli’s 2009 rant on CNBC against subsidizing “losers’ mortgages,” to Representative Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” outburst during Obama’s September 2009 address to Congress, to John Boehner’s screaming “Hell no!” on the House floor about Obamacare in 2010, politicized rage has marked the opposition to Obama. But the rules of our racial politics require that Obama never respond in like fashion. So frightening is the prospect of black rage given voice and power that when Obama was a freshman senator, he was asked, on national television, to denounce the rage of Harry Belafonte. This fear continued with demands that he keep his distance from Louis Farrakhan and culminated with Reverend Wright and a presidency that must never betray any sign of rage toward its white opposition.

Thus the myth of “twice as good” that makes Barack Obama possible also smothers him. It holds that African Americans—enslaved, tortured, raped, discriminated against, and subjected to the most lethal homegrown terrorist movement in American history—feel no anger toward their tormentors. Of course, very little in our history argues that those who seek to tell bold truths about race will be rewarded. But it was Obama himself, as a presidential candidate in 2008, who called for such truths to be spoken. “Race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now,” he said in his “More Perfect Union” speech, which he delivered after a furor erupted over Reverend Wright’s “God Damn America” remarks. And yet, since taking office, Obama has virtually ignored race…

The article is quite long and it just goes on and on like that – America is and has been a hopeless, racist hell and Obama hasn’t been doing enough to pay whitey back for his transgressions.  Obama is just playing the white man’s game, as it were, for fear that an enraged black man will awaken the racist within us all and thus defeat him on November 6th.  The underlying premise of it all is that all white people are guilty and until they confront their terrible crimes, we can’t get past the race issue in the United States.

The reality is a bit different, of course.  The true issue of race in America is that it is dead as a doornail except for those who need it for fun and profit.  The fact that Obama has been treated just like anyone else doesn’t enter in to liberal minds – it was my (very white) wife who first clued me in to the Obama phenomena.  She was quite taken with this well spoken, good looking man who was clearly ambitious for higher office.  I, too, could not escape immediately the charm of Obama.  While I wouldn’t have voted for him under any circumstances this was entirely due to his standard-liberal positions on the issues.  That he is a black man was, is and always will be entirely irrelevant.  It wasn’t until the Jeremiah Wright issue came up that I became aware of the dishonesty underneath the surface of Obama – and while an author like Coats clearly admirers people like Wright, anyone who is not committed to the con-job which is race in America these days would immediately be offended by someone who lives well off America and yet condemns it in such hateful terms.  And as Obama and team started going “Jeremiah who?” it really just told us that Obama is dishonest – he sat in the man’s church for 20 years and could not reasonably argue that he was unaware of Wright’s raving lunacy.

Obama’s 2008 persona, though, carried him through to victory – just as anyone else with that sort of persona and given that set of political circumstances would likely have been carried in to the White House.  In other words; treated just like anyone else.  The problem for Obama is that his management style (probably the worst decision-maker we’ve ever had in the White House) coupled with the disastrous policies normal to liberalism have ensured complete failure of his Administration.  And just like any other person who is failing in the job of President, he’s getting hammered in popular approval and will likely lose on November 6th.  He wasn’t elected due to race in 2008, won’t be defeated in 2012 because of race – he was elected because of his personality and circumstances and will be defeated because of his policies.  But if this narrative is accepted as true then all the racial con-artists out there (people like Wright and Farrakhan and Jackson and Sharpton) would shortly be out of work.  A certain segment of the population (which does include a very large number of white people, of course) needs to have race to be a painful, divisive issue now and forever more.

It will be funny – not to me, as I’ll be dead right around that time – in 30 or 40 years when America is no longer a white-majority nation to see the successors of these people.  How will they keep the race hustle up?  Don’t doubt that they will try – Mugabe in Zimbabwe is still blaming the white people of Zimbabwe for his problems even though there are hardly any white people left in that country.  It’ll just be entertaining to watch the mental back flips these people will have to do to convince people that whitey is still keeping the black man down.   Think of it like this – the race-hustlers of 2052 will be trying to convince a panel of 1 (aged) white guy, two Latinos, two Asians and three mixed-race people that we still need racial set-asides to clear up the racial disparities of the Jim Crow era.

The sad part of it is really the way these people feel the need to keep hate alive.  We all know the truth of our past – the glory and the sins; slavery will always be a stain upon the Great Republic, as will segregation.  But it is also very much long past, now.  There are no slaves left.  No children of slaves, either.  I doubt we even have a great-grand-child of a slave alive in the United States.  The Jim Crow laws have been a dead letter since the mid-60’s.  Black people serve at all levels of American society and no one would ever dream of barring anyone from any position simply based upon their skin color.  More and more of us, also, have mixed race families – while I’m sure there are still some hill-apes out there who don’t want their daughters to marry a black man, they are few and far between (and getting ever fewer by the day); people just don’t care about it any longer.  All we want is decent people who obey the law and do the right thing – skin color is irrelevant.  But here are our liberals – so fearful that the race-baiting gravy train may come to an end that they will do whatever is necessary to keep old hatreds inflamed.

Pray for them.  Don’t get mad about it.  Hopefully they will wake up from their befuddlement in the by and by.

Well, let’s take a look at the post-racial United States ever since Obama and his followers have stopped using race as a political tactic.

Now the following are defined as “racist”:

Believing in the Constitution as the best form of government for the United States—(code for wanting to return to slavery.)
Wanting to remove restrictive and economy-busting regulations from the banking industry—-(code for wanting to put black people “BACK in chains, y’all”)
Not believing in redistributive policies—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Not buying into class warfare—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Demanding proficiency testing for graduation from high school—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Voter ID laws—-(code for trying to disenfranchise black people)
Welfare reform—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Believing the United States should be a meritocracy—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Using employment history and credit scores to evaluate loan applications—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Believing socialism is a fatally flawed and destructive political system—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Believing everyone running for the presidency should be required to prove his or her eligibility—(code for wanting to keep black people down)
Having any political opinion contrary to that of those running the country—-(only because we can’t stand the idea of a black man in the White House)
Thinking the Attorney General has to be bound by the law—-(only because we can’t stand the idea of a black man as Attorney General)
Thinking the job of the Justice Department is making sure that our laws are followed—-(only because we can’t stand the idea of a black man as Attorney General)
Thinking our immigration laws should be followed—(code for hating Latinos)
Thinking our national security demands secure borders——-(code for hating Latinos)

Just a partial list, with the observation that race relations sure were better before we became so post-racial.

I have to wonder just how the race card could be played any more. Once we have a national media outlet carping that Mitt Romney should not be quoting Thomas Jefferson because Romney is just a “rich white guy” and this gaining no attention, it appears the the whole deck has been played.

    • sarahbloch August 26, 2012 / 5:58 am

The Left is calling on all Americans to see the racial code in all of these positions, simply put.

      • Amazona August 26, 2012 / 10:35 am

Yes, sarah, of course people like you have to seek, or invent, all sorts of obscure hidden meanings to innocent commentary–how else can you defend your pathology?

After all, you are in what has to be an extremely awkward position.

You find yourselves defending a political system you don’t understand, because it appeals to your pathological need to hate, and you find yourselves loathing everyone connected to another political system you don’t understand because your puppet masters have designated these people as the Evil Other.

You define others by the color of their skin, dumping them into huge general demographics without the slightest awareness or acceptance of them as individuals, and then you apply demeaning characteristics to these demographics—-in the case of black people, you decide that this homogenous, nonspecific, mass of humanity with dark skin shares the inability to function in society, an inability to compete with people of light skin, and a collective commitment to the same vague and emotion-based pseudo-political entity now represented by the Democratic Party.

How do you know this about all these millions of people? Why, just LOOK at them! They’re BLACK!!! What more do you need to know?

And what do you know about black people? Aside from being this amorphous mass, and not individuals, they need your help. They need you to pave the way, make excuses for them, lower standards for them, ignore crimes, feed and clothe and house them, and in general treat them as inherently inferior beings. (This lets you preen in your imagined “tolerance” and feel morally superior, probably the only thing that does.)

Those who break loose from this collective identity you have applied to them? Oh, you hate them. They are “not really black”. They are sell-outs, “house n*****s”, Uncle Toms, PANDERERS.

Because black people are not SUPPOSED to be individuals, with individual identities and beliefs and talents and skills and personalities and characters. And for DAMNED sure they are not supposed to be held to the same standard as whites.

But to pull this all off, and to condemn the people who do not see skin color first, who do not identify people by the color of their skin but by their character, who accept people for who and what they are no matter what they look like or where they are from, demands a strategy.

And inventing a shadowy “code” that only you can see, identify, and decode, allows you to assign all sorts of nefarious beliefs and attitudes to people who simply do not have them.

So you people have your “RACIAL CODE” that you get to define and redefine as it suits you. Any time your hate builds up and you just HAVE to vent, you can come up with some other word that is in your secret “code” book, that you can then claim means whatever you say it means.

And we know this is as valid as the rest of your sad, silly, fantasy lives of invented names, origins, histories, educations, accreditations, jobs, etc. It is all sick fantasy you need to somehow compensate for the reality of what you really are.

        Code! Pshaw!

    • Amazona August 26, 2012 / 10:45 am

Note that sarah believes that all the things I pointed out ARE “racial code”——
Believing in the Constitution as the best form of government for the United States

Wanting to remove restrictive and economy-busting regulations from the banking industry

      Not believing in redistributive policies

      Not buying into class warfare

Demanding proficiency testing for graduation from high school

      Voter ID laws

      Welfare reform

Believing the United States should be a meritocracy

Using employment history and credit scores to evaluate loan

Believing socialism is a fatally flawed and destructive political system

Believing everyone running for the presidency should be required to prove his or her eligibility

Having any political opinion contrary to that of those running the country

Thinking the Attorney General has to be bound by the law

Thinking the job of the Justice Department is making sure that our laws are followed

Thinking our immigration laws should be followed

Thinking our national security demands secure borders

What does she say? “The Left is calling on all Americans to see the racial code in all of these positions

      Thank you, sarah.

How many of you saw this disgraceful display by Ohio representative Nina Turner last night?

There is a lot of money and power in racism, and unfortunately some people play the card very well, as evidenced by Nina. I am so tired of the race card being dropped by those people who can not compete in the Idea and policy arena, and it is without a doubt hurting our country.

  3. Raging Bull August 24, 2012 / 7:10 pm

Then we have libtard Bill Maher. Not sure if anyone really takes this guy seriously, but he believes that the RNC’s “time to make a change” ad is racist. The ad highlights the pathetic state of our economy and concludes: “He tried. You tried. It’s okay to make a change.” Maher says the ad conveys to white voters, “You’re a good person. You tried. You gave a job to the black man.” He finds this to be “a subtle racist message.”

“You simply tolerate cain and west because they pander to you. you are lost.”

Now, now, sarah—–be careful, as you are straying off into the weeds of overt racism.

What about sincere, thoughtful and long-held beliefs in the importance of governing our nation according to its Constitution translates, in your mind, to “pandering”?

You see, sarah, you just admitted, like it or not, to a cherished conviction of the RRL and its PL minions—that people should be defined and judged by the color of their skin.

You admit to the conviction that people are not individuals, with freedom of thought and choice, but are merely components of a mass, collectively identified and defined, and to your need to explain an anomaly by simply declaring it to be “pandering’—that is, Col. West and Mr. Cain are really part of the collective, really identified by the demographic identity you have slapped on all who share their skin color, but are consciously playing white people by telling them what they want to hear.

You forkers play a valuable role here, sarah. Oh, you are annoying as hell, what with your “We, Ourselves” nonsense and the juvenile posturing and the invented personas with invented credentials and invented jobs in an invented world, but still you serve a purpose.

As you expound upon your belief system, you reveal the ugly truths that lie beneath the surface of the strident claims of moral superiority. It’s interesting, though sometimes distasteful, to watch—but educational.

And it’s sad. Sad to realize that there are actually people so twisted and so desperately in need of someone to vilify, demonize and hate that you manage to distort things into their exact opposites. Orwell had such insight into people like you.

To people like you, seeing people as individuals, as individuals responsible for their own actions, is “racist” when that is applied to people of color—though it is diametrically opposite to racism, as it sets skin color aside and looks solely at actions, character and behavior. But you preen in your posturing of being so NOT-racist, while you assign a racial value to absolutely everything.

YOU are the ones who judge by skin color, believing that skin color determines political belief, believing that skin color excuses some behaviors, believing that skin color makes people incapable of caring for themselves, believing that skin color means people simply cannot compete on that “level playing field” you bleat about.

And we who find skin color the least significant of all characteristics, are targeted by people like you. It makes no sense, except in the context of pathology.

I don’t mind being called a racist. It has happened so much over the last three years that I am bored with it. Cries of racism just flow right off anymore. It should be expected from the left.

Their failures never belong to the system they believe in but always to some outside force. Our resident collectivists scream this theme every chance they get.

Four more years!, one more try!! We’ll get it right this time!! We just haven’t spent enough money!!

While I do agree the race card has been used plenty over the last sixty years it has been mainly a side show until barky showed up. It has now became the main attraction. With adherents like Thomas, watson, and the forkers gobbling up every accusation like candy, the race card has slowly been played out for the majority.

It no longer has the power it once did. Except among the weak willed who will cringe every time it is played.

      Obama Demands Race-Based School Discipline
      By Joy Pullmann

President Barack Obama recently signed an executive order hiring race-sensitive bureaucrats to hold meetings and mandate racial discipline quotas.

The order charges his new racial justice team, in part, with “promoting a positive school climate that does not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools.” In plain English, that means that if different races have different incidences of disciplinary action, those of a favored race who act worse will be punished less, or those of a disfavored race who act better will be punished more, or both.

I imagine this brought a big “oh, crap” from the Obama campaign this morning:

The anti-Obama documentary based on Dinesh D’Souza’s book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” expanded nationwide on Friday – with early first-place showings in the domestic box office rankings, Deadline Hollywood reports.

As of late Friday afternoon, “2016: Obama’s America” had grossed $700,000 from 1,090 theaters. That compared with $300,000 for the new big-budget, Sylvester Stallone action flick “The Expendables 2,” which is playing in 3,355 theaters, Deadline Hollywood reports.

The early showing puts Obama’s America on track to gross $1.2 million to $1.7 million on Friday alone, with as much as $3.7 million to $5 this weekend, according to Deadline Hollywood. Its afternoon ranking will likely be eclipsed by “Expendables” and several new releases, including “Ride Like Hell,” starring Michael Shannon.

Exhibitors reported that busloads of filmgoers arriving at theaters to see Obama’s America in pre-organized trips, Deadline Hollywood reports.

The film’s producer, Rocky Mountain Pictures, used the same marketing approach to build audiences for many of its faith-based films. Its efforts included advertising nationally over the past two weeks on talk radio and cable news channels.

Last weekend, Obama’s America grossed $1.2 million in select markets, including New York City, and had a total gross of $2.1 million from a total of 169 theaters.

The low-budget film features author D’Souza outlining facts to assist viewers in gaining an understanding of the apparent motivations behind a number of President Barack Obama’s policies.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax last week, D’Souza said that Obama’s policies are unmaking the American Dream.

“Between 2007 and the present, Americans have lost about 40 percent of our wealth. Forty percent. If that happens again, if we lose another 40 percent in the second Obama term, if there is a second Obama term, Americans will be two thirds poorer than they were when Obama came to office,” he told Newsmax. “In a way, America will stop being a first-world country.”

Poor Barry; even uber-leftist, Robert Reich says Romney will mop the floor with him in the debates.

    • Mark Edward Noonan August 25, 2012 / 2:25 pm

I was watching a bit of Romney’s speech this AM and while its clear that Romney will never be a great speaker it is obvious from his speech that he believes in the promise of America. I contrast this to how Obama’s speeches have been ending lately – “we’ve got more teachers to hire, more troops to bring home” and such like statements. While I understand that Obama’s base had a large educrat component and, lets face it, the war is completely unpopular, Obama’s call to arms is about hiring more government employees and withdrawing America from world leadership. Romney is the polar opposite. So, yes, I do think that Romney will mop the floor with Obama (even on foreign and war policy – “Mr. President, I hear you say over and over again that we have more troops to bring home and I know we all want our men and women home – but in 2008 your promised us victory in Afghanistan; does what we have in Afghanistan look like victory to you?”).

…bleats the silly Lib whose very right and ability to post such nonsense comes from Victory over the efforts of the radical Left to dominate the world and all who are in it.

We fought the attempts at world domination by Hitler, whose nation had no such freedom, nor did the nations he conquered before being stopped. We resisted the efforts of the USSR, under various leaders, to crush us and destroy us, seeing the oppression and total lack of freedom under this political system.

Yes, you silly silly mindless twit, you CAN “shelter under Victory” and under Victory you CAN eat and under Victory you CAN assure the future of your children.

What is your goal today, sarah? To remind us of the mindless bleating of the ignorant yet passionate Pseudo Left, of the cluelessness of people like you so deeply invested in defending a system you don’t understand, because of the cheap thrills of attacking one you also don’t understand? 9. 6206j August 25, 2012 / 6:13 pm

I probably know the answer to this, but does anyone here think Romney was dumb for doing the birther joke a couple of days ago? It seems to mean joking about birtherism; in my opinion a plague of the non-thinking Obama haters which does seem to have some racist undertones, will hurt Romney with the voters he needs. I know the crowd loved it but preaching to choir doesn’t gain votes. The kicker is Romney doesn’t need to do this, his template is jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. Anything else is a distraction and good for Barry.

I am of the belief that Romney thinks birtherism is stupid but he still seems to think he needs to feed the base. This seems wrong to me, the base is going to come out in droves because of their dislike of Barry.

      • 6206j August 25, 2012 / 7:27 pm

Clearly this was about Barry. I get the joke , though it wasn’t really very funny. But Cluster you are clearly a smart person. Don’t you think Romney dipping his toe, though jokingly, into the cesspool of birtherism could hurt him with undecideds? This is going to be a tight race and this very minor distraction could be minimally harmful.

    • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 7:05 pm

Thank you, 6206, for the Liberal whine.

Some try to dismiss a serious and legitimate interest in vetting all our our candidates to make sure they actually legally qualify for office as “…a plague of the non-thinking Obama haters…” and then some go so far as to double down with the insanity of “…. which does seem to have some racist undertones…” but the simple fact is that every major job but this one demands this kind of examination of qualifications.

The idiotic term “birther” is meaningless, as it seems to be slapped onto people who think Obama was born in Kenya and people who think he was born in Hawaii. Like the COLB, the term means two completely opposite things, and is really just a stupid pejorative invented and used by stupid people.

I simply cannot understand how or why a concern about complying with Constitutional restrictions can possibly be considered to have any racial overtones, undertones, subtones, high tones, low tones, or tones of any description. The requirements apply to all.

You know what DOES have racial/racist implications? Giving a man a pass because of his skin color. This is as insidious and corrosive to our rule of law as zeroing in on him for the same reason.

      • 6206j August 25, 2012 / 7:33 pm

I wasn’t whining @ all. I think if Romney continues to court the birthers it will only hurt him. You people aren’t ever going to vote for Barry. Keep it up Mitt. Also, Barry provided his long form birth certificate. He was born in Hawaii to an American woman. He is a natural born citizen per our constitution and all courts who have had to review this ridiculous issue. You can contort yourself all you want but that doesn’t change the facts and the law.

      • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 9:11 pm

Yet again you fall back on a silly, senseless word.

“Birther”=someone who thinks Barry was born in Kenya, someone who thinks Barry was probably born in Hawaii but can’t figure out why he spent so much time and money refusing to prove it, someone who is convinced Barry was born in Hawaii but is concerned about the Natural Born citizen clause—pretty much anyone who finds something hinky in the whole thing.

BTW, it also applies to people smart enough to realize that a COLB is meaningless without the supporting document to explain if it was issued to prove Hawaiian residency to someone born out of state or as a substitute for an actual birth certificate. And it applies to everyone who understands computer assisted document creation.

The only people not covered by this silly word are those like the guy I heard on the radio yesterday who said he was going to vote for Obama and he didn’t care where he was born—the only truly honest statement of Obots everywhere.

My position has been that refusing to publicly examine all the evidence and all the laws, both sides are just guessing.

And BTW, according to the natural law upon which our Constitution was based, natural born citizenship could not be conveyed by the mother alone.

      • Cluster August 25, 2012 / 9:13 pm

Did you ever think it might be a dig at the birthers? Or in your Obama centered world does everything begin and end with the one we have all been waiting for?

But go ahead and think that this will actually matter. It’s about as intellectually deep as liberals can go I guess.

      • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 9:17 pm

I notice that you evade addressing the race question. You brought it up and I made a different point, which you ignore, obviously being much more comfortable with silly name calling than with actual discussion of fact.

“You know what DOES have racial/racist implications? Giving a man a pass because of his skin color. This is as insidious and corrosive to our rule of law as zeroing in on him for the same reason.”

Just to back up my assertion that Obama is being given a pass on the most important issue, that of eligibility, because of his race, let me remind you of the howling at the moon you RRL trolls engaged in when obviously faked documents were published in a feeble effort to smear George W. Bush, on an issue that had nothing to do with constitutional eligibility anyway.

        Bush=white and conservative
        Obama=half black and ultra Liberal

Different standards, eh? You guys try to make it racist and hate-based to even ASK about eligibility–though it was OK for you to question McCain’s, pre-Obama.

      • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 9:33 pm

You know what’s REALLY racist? Acknowledging that Barack Obama’s publicist represented him as having been born in Kenya for 16 YEARS , in publicity reprinted every year, in bios sent to Obama for vetting.

Even when we are willing to just call him a liar, using a fake foreign birth to enhance his image (like we never see THAT from the Left!!) it is just hatefully racist to even NOTICE this.

      • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 9:38 pm

        6206, I haven’t posted as Almiranta for what??—six years??

Obsess much? And BTW, when I started to post as Amazona, I said I was making the change, and why—unlike you, with the sneaky name changes.

You do focus on the really important issues, though, don’t you?

Just curious—have you seen the Arpaio press conference, with the explanations of layers in electronic document creation, and the clicking of certain layers to remove certain elements on the document?

No???? Do you understand this process? Ever use it? I’ve done it with Photo Shop—same principle. Check it out and let us know what you think………..

        Dog whistle.

      • Cluster August 26, 2012 / 8:56 am

Dog whistle? That’s another very racist connotation liberals love to use. Are you saying that white people react to dog whistles?

Is there any chance liberals could just look at people as individuals and children of God? Rather than categories of skin colors?

      • tiredoflibbs August 26, 2012 / 12:23 pm

“Is there any chance liberals could just look at people as individuals and children of God? Rather than categories of skin colors?”

Obviously not, since all these forkers do is bring race into the discussion.

Plus, the proggies have always brought race into the political arena as mainly a scare tactic that the evil Republicans want to “put y’all back in chains”, as the perfect example. Then we have the “you are against and criticize Obama because he is black” nonsense.

All these proggies and their mindless drones (the forkers especially included) can do is bring up race, since their pResident and PARTY has nothing else on which to run.

The first person to dip his toe in to the cesspool of Birtherism was Obama – he’s the guy who went about 16 years with his Author bio claiming he was born in Kenya. Now, I understand why – it was a ploy to help him sell his books to the sort of audience who would want to read books by someone who never accomplished anything. But, there it is…and if you try to dodge it by saying, “Obama didn’t know”, then all you’re doing is making out that he’s an idiot. I wrote my own author bio…I’m pretty sure Obama wrote his, as well. It certainly didn’t go to print without him having a gander at it, first.

  10. Cluster August 25, 2012 / 9:18 pm

Giving a man a pass because of his skin color.

That’s a given with liberals like 6206j. All liberals are convinced that black people can not succeed in life without their protection and assistance.

    • Amazona August 25, 2012 / 9:30 pm

That’s the way they think, Cluster. All the time they are squealing about those big meanie racist Conservatives, who dare to judge people by their character and their accomplishments and their merit, and as individuals, they are lumping people together in big demographic blocks that deny individuality and they are determining the abilities of those people based upon their race.
