Understanding the Left

It does come to everyone who listens and watches – in this case, to Pete Kaliner:

I find myself at odds now with a lot of proponents of same sex marriage who appear to be walking the charred battlefield of the cultural war and shooting the wounded.

I apologize for thinking this was about only equal treatment under the law. I apologize for dismissing conservatives’ fears that this slippery slope would lead to de facto banishment from various sectors of the public square.

I thought people just wanted to be left alone. I was wrong.

For many, they wanted forced conversions.

As such, it’s only fair we ask where it ends.

Do read the whole article – there is a lot more, including a very insightful quote from Vaclav Havel about how people conform out of a desire to just “get along”, thus strengthening tyranny upon all.

As to the question of, “where it ends”: the answer to that is simple. It ends with the complete victory of one side, or the other. I’ve got a little bit of inside knowledge and thus I know that in the End, my side wins – but it is still my responsibility to try to avert as much trouble and suffering as I can in this world, and so I will still fight for my side, hoping that eventually a majority will understand the facts and allow the necessary reforms to preserve our civilization. But in that task one of the crucial things is for all those in favor of civilization to stand together.

We are in a titanic battle for our civilization, my friends. Pick your side. You can come up with lots of reasons to back this or that liberal ideal – but no matter what the alleged merits of a liberal ideal, the bottom line is that the left, itself, is under the thumb of oppressors. Junior-league Leninists I called them a number of years back…people who just yearn for the opportunity to smack a person down; to humiliate them and drive them off. These people are not in it for justice – they are in it for total domination.

UPDATE: Ace of Spades, who does understand the left, gets very angry:

…Unlike some other Dummies, I’m not really of a mind that we must all Follow the Same Rules and all Subscribe to the Same Bland, Grey, Dead Corporate-Friendly Culture in which no one is really religious or different or odd at all Because That’s Bad For Corporate Business.

I think people should have — and by God, do have — the right to be fairly different from one another.

That’s f***ing America.

Did you not know that? That {is} what America is?

That America is the right to be different from other people?

I don’t see why a store run by a pious conservative Muslim can’t demand that women be covered, if that’s his bag, nor why a store run by a pious conservative Catholic can’t also insist that women cover their shoulders, if that’s his sense of what his business should be, of what should happen on property he owns.

Will there be hurt feelings when some are turned away?

Sure.

And who cares?

What the f*** are we, babies? Is this kindergarten, where everyone must be made to feel welcome, always?…

Do read the whole thing – be warned, though, of lots of NSFW language, but that is just Ace all over…and, hey, it takes all kinds to make a world, right?

Stand together? I seem to remember how anyone who dared point out this truth about progtardia was mocked and derided by your co bloggers and “volunteer moderators”

Now you want to stand together? I suppose you want to be one of the leaders of this “stand together” movement. I wish you all the luck in that undertaking.

Best now not to worry about getting people to stand with you when you when in the past you refused to stand with them.

Best now to learn some skills that will help you survive on your own

I must have missed something – but if you were offended, then I apologize on behalf of the blog. Matt started this blog around 12 years ago as a forum for conservative victory…at that time, of course, geared especially towards the re-election of President Bush in 2004. We do, of course, have our arguments – I don’t know of anyone who comes here who agrees with me all the time. But by standing together I mean just that – standing together; don’t give an inch to the left.

We (common sense, every day conservatives) have got to stop pandering to pedantic little political bitches on the left and right. While we all know the leftists lie as easily as they breathe and personally assault anyone who disagrees with them in the name of tolerance, people like Tim just continue to move the goal posts, conflate the issues, and throw temper tantrums when their “moral standards” aren’t met. They are irrelevant.

    • Cluster April 2, 2015 / 8:14 am

I much prefer to stand alone then to have someone like you stand with me. I am tired of the all the quibbling little bitches on the left and the right.

    • Retired Spook April 2, 2015 / 8:23 am

I suppose you want to be one of the leaders of this “stand together” movement.

The beauty about standing “together” is that leaders are somewhat irrelevant. It’s what drives the Tea Party. There are some organizers who help keep various groups connected, but I doubt you could name a national Tea Party leader — I can’t.

And we don’t hate you, Tim — well, at least I don’t. I’ve never met you, but I’d trust you with my life before lots of people I do know.

Wouldn’t it be the ultimate irony if this ended up being the issue that brings thinking people from both sides together to fight a common enemy. And I think it almost goes without saying that the common enemy is becoming more and more apparent to more and more people.

    • Retired Spook April 2, 2015 / 10:03 am

Or maybe it’s just going to irreparably divide the country. I’m not sure how to deal with this kind of hate.

Here’s what is not being said about the pizza caterer. Why in the world would a gay couple insist on having a business who objects to their lifestyle cater their wedding???? There are plenty of other pizzerias that would welcome the business, and the gay couple is extremely intolerant by insisting that the one business who is objectionable caters to them. I honestly think the leftists have lost their collective minds, however small they were to begin with. Their policies have destroyed the world and this country so now they are lashing out. Case in point – the left continues to acquiesce to foreign countries who throw gay people off of buildings and stone women to death while at the same time, destroy the livelihood of an American businessman who only wants to live his life according to his value system. The leftists have all gone batshit insane.

      • Retired Spook April 2, 2015 / 4:27 pm

On-line donations to Memories Pizza are up to $230,000. I wonder how much has been donated to the legal defense fund of the local golf coach who threatened to burn them down.

      • Cluster April 2, 2015 / 4:38 pm

Here’s the interesting thing on the Pizzaeria – never once have they actually discriminated against a gay couple. This all evolved from a reporter who asked the lady proprietor if she would consider catering a gay wedding to which she replied that that would go against her personal values. So this is all heresy, yet that doesn’t stop the left from delighting in trying to destroy their business.

And I have a question for the leftists who like to conflate this issue with race discrimination. If two black Americans and two white Americans walk into a restaurant, who is the gay one?

      • M. Noonan April 2, 2015 / 6:11 pm

Check the article from Ace – I’m entirely in accord with it. It really doesn’t bother me how anyone decides to run their private business. If a private business is doing something I don’t like – or refuses to serve me because of what I am, however defined – then they are perfectly within their rights.

The bottom line, of course, is that almost all businesses almost all the time will accommodate whatever the customer presenting him/herself desires…that is just common sense. The chances that someone will find the doors of an for-profit enterprise closed to them is nearly nil…and so small a chance that if it does come up, there’s sure to be someone just down the street who will step in and take the business.

Time for us to pass laws which allow people to be free, again.

Definitely – part of the 2016 Plan, to be sure…War on Women fell a bit flat in 2014 so they are casting about for the New Divisive Issue. To be sure, they’ll keep recycling War on Women, as well…but its kinda stale. Now all GOP candidates for President will have to come out in favor of same-sex marriage or be put down in the MSM – endlessly – as anti-gay bigots, thus turning off LIV. GOP candidates who want to win better get ready for it…

      • Cluster April 2, 2015 / 9:58 pm

The media and the Democrats, and I apologize for the redundancy, already have the long knives out and will lie, cheat, steal and use every socially divisive issue they can conjure up as a weapon to marginalize the opponent and win. The militant American left is literally at war with any American who opposes them and is as much of a threat, if not more so than Radical Islamists. The militant American left has threatened the livelihood of a woman and small business owner in Indiana for simply expressing her opinion that they disagree with. She has never acted on that opinion or had any intent to do so, she simply answered a question posed by a reporter and for that, the left has threatened to bankrupt her. Tell me how that is acceptable. It is time to destroy the left.

I’m not sure that’s the case. I think most everybody who has been paying attention realizes that the same sex marriage argument has been lost. Before the next election it will likely be declared legal nationwide, so there won’t really be a necessity for any candidate to take a stand one way or another unless they just want to piss off a substantial portion of the electorate.

      • dbschmidt April 4, 2015 / 5:18 pm

I, personally, have never been to a wedding that served pizza ~ not that I would be against that food choice. Additionally, this “reporter” purposely chose this establishment to create a story rather than report, If nothing else–this reporter should be fired.

What ever happened to “We respectfully reserve the right the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason” ??? That and “No shirt, no shoes ~ no service.” were standards of almost every store I frequented as a child or young adult.

This is liberals demanding a “solution” to something that doesn’t exist. The Federal law was about Indians smoking peyote during their ceremonies. I could go on about how bogus this is but I have to finish my taxes because I need to forfeit almost half of my pay as a justification for living in this wonderful country including liars in Congress like Sen. Reid.

This will save me time tomorrow as I get a list of Muslim business here in N. Carolina so I can go make requests to see how many are willing to serve a pig-picking get together I have planned for spring-time.

Law suits a many. if I was an A**hole. At least in that rspect I am not.

      • Cluster April 4, 2015 / 7:05 pm

Time to be a little pro active. Before all the whiny little climate change morons start all their drama over CA – let’s add a little perspective.

    http://www.mercurynews.com/science/ci_24993601/california-drought-past-dry-periods-have-lasted-more

The longest droughts of the 20th century, what Californians think of as severe, occurred from 1987 to 1992 and from 1928 to 1934. Both, Stine said, are minor compared to the ancient droughts of 850 to 1090 and 1140 to 1320.

The climate changes alright, it’s just not the fault of the Koch Bros. and no tax increase or government funded study group can resolve it.

If a Christian photographer can be forced to photograph a same sex wedding can he/she also be forced to photograph the honeymoon night? Mark asked “where does it end?” The only non-violent way I see it ending is if the Supreme Court finally weighs in and defines the line between “serving” and “participating”. And given recent events, I don’t have a great deal of confidence that the Supreme Court will be willing to take such a stand.

    • Cluster April 2, 2015 / 2:13 pm

This can all be resolved with simple human decency. There are many, many business’s that will welcome gay couples business and give them first class service. Why they can’t be decent human beings and patronize the business’s that welcome their business rather those who don’t, shows just how intolerant they are. Conservatives need to understand that we are as much at war with ISIS as we are the leftists. The leftists are actively trying to destroy conservatism.

The Christian Right discriminates against gay (or insert another leftist favored victim here) owned businesses.

    • M. Noonan April 2, 2015 / 9:37 pm

157 Christian kids were murdered today by Islamist radicals – who will kill all gay people they can lay hands upon, by the way – and Obama has sold us out to Iran on the nuke…and our liberal fascists wants us busy oppressing Christians because, you see, Christians are haters…

  8. Retired Spook April 3, 2015 / 11:33 am

The donations to Memories Pizza passed $500,000 this morning, including one for $20 with the following message:

“As a member of the gay community, I would like to apologize for the mean spirited attacks on you and your business. I know many gay individuals who fully support your right to stand up for your beliefs and run your business according to those beliefs. We are outraged at the level of hate and intolerance that has been directed at you and sincerely hope that you are able to rebuild.”

followed by one for $250 with this message:

“My partner and I have been together for almost 27 years. The Democratic Leadership hi-jacked the Gay community many years ago and continue to spew the intolerance of religion as they promote the tolerances of their choices. This is one big community organized ploy with the media to do harm to people with religious convictions, conservatives, capitalism on and on. Love Peace and Happiness to the Family!!!!”

It’s refreshing when people of character step forward. Maybe there’s a silver lining in this controversy afterall.

    • Cluster April 3, 2015 / 11:59 am

Those are heart warming testimonies from people of character and common sense and I agree, it is refreshing to see it and I hope it’s contagious. Let’s compare these fine folks comments with a recent comment from a member of the militant American left whose only goal in life evidently is to assault the character of those he disagrees with:

A pizza company yaps about its intention to discriminate against a substantial portion of its customers (wise business move, that) and the public at large rejects the bigotry and sends the homophobic dough twirlers on the path to insolvency. Looks like Memories Pizza may soon be just a memory. Sometimes things work out just as they should. And now we get to see the voters reject Republican presidential candidates for their support of the bigotry, which they have to do in order to pander to their mouth breathing, superstitious base. I love freedom!

      • Retired Spook April 3, 2015 / 12:33 pm

Wouldn’t it be poetic justice if this controversy provided the wake-up call to motivate the 4 million evangelicals who stayed home in November, 2012, to come out and vote in November, 2016? Let’s just hope the GOP gives us a candidate worth voting for.

      • Cluster April 3, 2015 / 2:17 pm

I know a first term Senator may have some obstacles in front of him considering the last first term Senator we elected turned out to be such a disaster BUT – I am anxiously awaiting Marco Rubio’s entrance into the race and want to hear his opinion on the pressing issues of the day.

      • M. Noonan April 3, 2015 / 6:00 pm

That is the key – and I think the only sure-loser we got is Jeb, though Christie vies for the prize (with the understanding that he could actually run and win). Still with Jindal and Walker – but we’ve got a splendid crop of candidates.

And the love from the Left continues.

Salon: Pizzeria Closed After Death Threats ‘Getting Exactly What It Deserved’

The rabid Left is just apoplectic:

and, to top it off, another threat, by someone who now laughably claims he was hacked, to steal from the O’Connors the money that has been raised.

    And this:

The tweeted threat to burn down the store has been around since Tuesday night, but its description by Aaron Ramey, the news director at ABC 57, the TV station whose ambush “what if” interview started all of this ugliness, is less well-known, and deserves further exposure:

“Teacher suspended for mean tweet about pizza place who won’t cater gay weddings — AaronRamey (@adramey)”

As a reminder, here’s that “mean” tweet:

As RB Pundit noted, “A mean tweet is me saying you’re a moron. She was recruiting for arson.”

At least there’s no longer any doubt about the level of hate on the Left. If ever one needed proof that Liberalism is a mental disorder, this is it. I’m sensing a marvelous bit of karma coming.

  10. Retired Spook April 3, 2015 / 2:06 pm

Well, you had to know THIS was just a matter of time. No doubt now who the Left’s intended target is in all this.

  11. tiredoflibbs April 4, 2015 / 9:23 am

The left is easily understood when they make such boneheaded, uninformed and revisionist statements:
“you probably are aware that the arguments Christian conservatives are making today regarding homosexuals are pretty much the same arguments they made decades ago regarding skin color.”

The left cannot face their bigotry past. it was the leftist Democrats that embraced and owned slaves. It was the left that created and enforced Jim Crow laws and kept them separate and far from equal. It was the left that fought against civil rights. It is the left that keeps the poor dependent while blaming others for the misfortune. They fight any and all attempts to enable their independence. All they have now is lies and exploitation of created victims. One cannot fight the lies that is so ingrained into the mindless drones of the left as shown in the above statement. The left controls the education system and controls the minds of the impressionable and the weak.

until the leadership understands this and those who choose to stay home and not vote – give us the incompetence that is in place now – nothing will change. The left knows this and uses it to their advantage. All thus talk of abortion, same sex marriage, climate change are all distractions. Candidates need to embrace the Constitution – the answers are found there.

  12. dbschmidt April 4, 2015 / 5:41 pm

Guess I am going to have to join you just because I don’t want to be forced by government (Government is force) from putting a giant penis on every cake I bake, ???

Somehow, nevertheless, I believe there is a difference between being a d**k and being forced to serve on on top of a cake. Never refused service just stated their beliefs against the practice.

Too many small and small-minded people cannot see the difference

  13. Retired Spook April 4, 2015 / 7:10 pm

One of the points that almost no one is making is that Indiana didn’t need a Religious Freedom Restoration Act. While the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits Congress from making any law that would infringe on an individual’s right to practice their religion, Section 3 of the Indiana Constitution goes a step further and says:

No law shall, in any case whatever, control the free exercise and enjoyment of religious opinions, or interfere with the rights of conscience.

NO LAW SHALL, IN ANY CASE WHATEVER – that’s pretty clear that no law can be passed by the Indiana General Assembly that forces an individual to participate in something that violates his/her conscience, and even a civil suit brought by, for example, a same sex couple to force someone to participate in their wedding, must have the weight of law behind it. Current anti-discrimination laws already prevent someone from refusing service on account of race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. All that’s really left to put this issue to rest is for the courts to weigh in and determine the distinction between “service” and “participation”. And the sooner that happens the better.

    • tiredoflibbs April 4, 2015 / 10:03 pm

Regardless of what is written in the law, the left will ignore it. Just look at obame. The Constitution clearly defines his authority and yet he ignores it and takes what powers he wants. The problem is the cowardly leadership does nothing. They are scared of being called racist for daring to carry out their Constitutioal duties.

The left will ignore any law written that doesn’t serve their ideology.

  14. tiredoflibbs April 6, 2015 / 12:10 pm

Not one gay person has gone to the pizzeria and has been refused service. This is an attack on what this woman THINKS, not what she has done.

This is the usual excuse from the left for criticisms on what their politicians and celebrities have SAID, not what they have done. But as we see, a hypocritical double standard applies once again.

The trolls that stalk this blog are always giddy to claim that we who “cling to our bibles and guns” will take up arms against this tyrannical government. And yet, they have no qualms about people threatening someone’s life over what they think.

    Pathetic, as usual.
