In the 2010 midterms, the overall House popular vote was 52% Republican, 45% Democrat. That election netted the GOP 63 House seats. Of course, we were coming back from a pretty low number after our 2008 wipe out. But the main thing is that it was an R+7 year which, certainly since WWII, was unprecedented for the GOP.
So, what is happening in 2022? Well, if you listen to the MSM and the Experts (though Lord only knows why you’d do that), Joe Biden’s firm and decisive leadership has turned things around and the Senate is almost sure-Democrat while the House is a tossup. And, man, do they have poll after poll showing this…someone even released a poll showing the Democrat up by 3 in Ohio. We’re doomed!
Well, maybe not.
Someone actually took the time to find out what people are doing – as opposed to what someone else is saying about what they’re doing – and he found that as of this past Tuesday, the GOP portion of the primary vote has been running 6 points head of Democrat voting…so, R+6. Not quite at 2010 levels, but pretty darn close.
As I keep trying to explain to the hand-wringers and bed-wetters on social media, for there to be actual improvement for the Democrats something has to get better. And, sorry, but a drop in gas prices from stratospheric to way too high doesn’t cut the mustard. The bottom line is that as soon as Pudding Brain got installed into the White House, 2022 became a GOP year. What this means is that the House goes GOP (given the Democrats only have a half dozen seat advantage) and the Senate probably goes GOP (Democrats having a little better chance there because of the map). That was if things sort of cruised along with nothing bad happening. Remember what Biden was supposed to be about: shutting down the virus and returning to normalcy. This didn’t happen. Afghanistan happened. Ukraine happened (and I perceive the Ruling Class is getting ready to ditch Ukraine). Shortages happened. Inflation happened. A flood of illegal immigrants happened. All the while Joe Biden getting increasingly senile and unable to perform the basic tasks of the office. Not only did nothing get better, everything got worse – and Biden coming down with Covid just puts a pathetic exclamation point on the fail.
Can the Democrats overcome all that? If they can, then we’re doomed. It would mean that we’ve gone so far mindlessly Left that even abject Leftist failure doesn’t shake the people out of complacency. But I don’t think that is the case. Among many other things, I’m encouraged by Lake’s win of the GOP nomination in Arizona – every part of the Establishment was against her…and she went on to win every county in Arizona. Sure, its just on the GOP side, but we’ve been Expertly informed that Trump and Trumpist candidates are fading and that Roe has triggered a surge of moderate GOP voters who are determined to change the party’s course. Their evidence is Kansas where a badly crafted pro-life initiative was soundly defeated…and, yes, some of these Expert nimrods are asserting it means Kansas votes Democrat in November.
What I’m saying is: don’t worry. We’ll either win (cool) or lose (unlikely) but in neither case is there much any individual can do about it. Either America is sane enough to properly punish the Democrats (I think we are) or America is not. We find out in November.
The Other McCain notes that what is said cannot happen – gay pedophilia – does, indeed, happen. Rather twisted case: gay couple adopts child and then sexually abuses child. Does this mean that all gay people are molesters? Of course not – but as RSM points out, we’re not even allowed to talk about such things because the Ruling Class has decreed that gay people can’t be abusers. Gay people have been granted a plenary dispensation from ordinary human sin, you see? What is really crucial here is that because we allow ideology to blind us, we’re not able to make the distinctions necessary to ensure the best outcome. Rely on it, if a hetero couple seeks to adopt, they’ll be checked six ways to Sunday to make sure they aren’t abusers…but I am certain that if a gay couple is even looked at in that area, it is perfunctory…because nobody wants to be the official who vetoed a gay adoption. The kid winding up abused doesn’t risk a career, after all.
New study shows that being in space has a bad effect on bones. I guess it ends up being that a few weeks in space can age your bones by the equivalent of about a decade. This is entirely unsurprising to me: whether you believe we were created by God in a second or evolved over millions of years, the plain fact is that our bodies are designed to live on the surface of the Earth. We can’t even successfully go too deep into water or high into the sky without special equipment. And at least when we’re flying at 80,000 feet or diving to the bottom of the Marianas Trench we’re still within Earth’s gravity and magnetic field (which is our primary shield against solar radiation). Until we learn how to deal with low or no gravity and how to shield ourselves from solar radiation, the primary means of deep space exploration will have to be via unmanned vehicles…and for all the dreams of colonizing Mars, it is currently a suicide mission until these problems are solved.
A NYC bodega owner who was assaulted (and the DA initially wanted to charge him for defending himself) is moving back to the Dominican Republic because he no longer feels safe in the USA. This is Joe Biden’s America – and this is the result of deliberate and quite malicious policies on the part of the Democrats who want crime to be high in order to stress the system and convince us to go far Left as our escape from it.
How is religion in America doing? To the Ruling Class, it is dying and deservedly so. But, others say it is still doing ok. I take a slightly different view: Religion isn’t dying, but actual belief in Christianity is in rapid decline as even many professed Christians haven’t been taught who Christ is and what it means to be Christian. And this cuts across all denominations…mainline Protestant, Catholic and Evangelical. The Mainline Protestants seem to view Jesus as a swell guy who wanted everyone to be nice to each other. Catholics seem to think that it was all symbolic and you can pick and choose what parts to believe. Evangelicals seem to think Jesus is some sort of magic talisman against suffering and/or to bring personal wealth.
To be sure, among all types, there are those who deeply believe and understand what they believe…but my bet is that a majority of Christians if questioned right now wouldn’t even be able to assert that Jesus is God. And it is because they haven’t been taught. Christianity is not a religion for sissies – it is the only religion in the world hated for its beliefs (Jews are hated for cultural reasons: nobody really disputes Jewish theology); it asks a great deal of believers. And it requires an informed and active consent on a daily basis. It is a tough religion…and so, naturally, it has been watered down in the past century. But the hard nub is still there…and I do believe a springtime will come.
Mark,
While this election is definitely the GOPs to lose, I’m pretty optimistic for a couple of reasons. First, overturning Roe did a great job of energizing women voters. I’ve never seen so many conservative women up in arms before. Whether that carries over the the election has yet to be seen. Second, Republicans are running some pretty clueless people for some of the Senate openings. Oz and Vance are running horrible campaigns and Walker can’t remember how many kids he has. Add that to record low unemployment, falling gas prices, and some big legislative wins and Democrats are looking pretty good.
Nice theory but after Roe, GOP turnout in Arizona smashed records and handed the nomination to the staunchly pro-life Lake.
Look, Casper, for the love of all things decent in the world, stop listening to the news. The MSM – all of it, including Fox – is a mere propaganda shop for the DNC. They are lying to you – all the time and about everything. FFS, your “big legislative win” was adding 87,000 agents to the IRS! Do you realize how the GOP will use that to chew up and spit out Democrats?
Vance will win by more than 10. Walker by about 4. Oz also by about 4.
Roe wasn’t on the ballot in Arizona. It will be for a lot of voters in Nov. since ending Roe on a national basis seems to be a GOP goal. Democrats are going to use Roe and Republicans voting to keep drug prices high to hammer Republicans this fall.
“Roe wasn’t on the ballot in Arizona. It will be for a lot of voters in Nov. ”
No it won’t. There is no way for Roe, which was a Supreme Court decision which has since been overturned, to be on any ballot, anywhere.
This is quite consistent with Casper’s prior explanations of his grasp of the Constitutiuon. He says “,,,since ending Roe on a national basis seems to be a GOP goal.”
Huh?
Roe IS ended, Casper. Over, dead, done, gone, ended. Try to keep up. It won’t be on a ballot, it won’t be voted on, it won’t be an issue.
The Death Cult will be pushing for legislation in states to somehow expand the ability to kill babies. They lack the authority to grant a RIGHT to kill a baby, but they can vote on how easy it is for pathologically selfish females to butcher their babies.
People who respect life are hoping that all states will then vote to end or limit abortion. In the meantime, if your former students are still fighting the Roe battle that just means they didn’t learn anything from you. But there is nothing more to say about Roe. It was bad law, and it’s gone. Period. Even RBG, who thought abortion was fine, said it was bad law.
If the issue is not a media soundbite, Casper is unaware of it. That”s the level of his political understanding. Case in point – “big legislative win” and “pro life women up in arms”. Because I watch a lot of MSNBC, these are lines currently repeated daily on that network. The “big legislative win” will result in more inflation, more money for donors, and more financial hardships for families. Guaranteed, because green energy is entirely insufficient to power our society, or any society despite the delusional dreams of people like Casper.
Secondly, most “sane” women (this excludes many Democrat women), are much more worried about feeding their babies (there’s still a shortage of baby formula), what their children are learning in school aside from pronouns, keeping them away from groomer teachers, putting food on the table, hoping their daughters won’t be beat out by men in sports, and of course wondering why Democrats prefer the children from Venezuela over American children.
And of course then you have all the other benefits of Democrats – endless wars, drug cartels and fentynal running rampant, destroyed inner cities, destroyed small business, forced experimental vaccines, and of course all the demonization because if you don’t support all things Democrat, well then you’re evil and racist and xenophobic and all the other names Democrats like to throw at everyone. So not only are their policies complete failures, Democrats are failures as decent human beings.
Oh and all the above of course excludes the Biden Crime Family. Joe Biden is compromised by China. That’s a fact. Hunter, Jim and Joe have been grifting on the world stage for decades and all world leaders know it, and most world leaders have a lot of dirt on Hunter and Jim, and of course the Big Guy.
Additionally, the authoritarian effort to hide and shield the Biden crimes while punishing political opponents for trespassing is being noticed by everyone. Even the women Casper.
What must it say about your soul if maintaining the “right” to kill unborn babies is more important than anything else?
They have no souls. I saw an interview clip of George Soros from a few years back and he was asked if he believed in God. Without any hesitation or reflection, he said no. And there you have it. I don’t trust anyone who believes this world and themselves are nothing more than random accidents. That’s a level of narcissism and stupidity that deserves ridicule.
I don’t watch MSNBC or any other TV news. I do keep in touch with a lot of former students and they are the ones who are most up in arms about Roe. The IRA is a big win for the Democrats and along with lower gas prices and lower unemployment might make a difference in the fall.
Are those the “cool kids” you speak of, LMAO. FFS Casper that’s just pathetic. But you got to be excited about all the wars going on, right? Remember when you thought Trump would get us into war?? LOL. Nope, it was and always has been the war mongering, deep state democrats who love to kill people overseas. Or how about all the women and girls being raped at the southern border, that’s exciting right? Or the girls who lose out in competition to men, that’s fun. Or how about all the fentynal available now, super exciting right? And then of course there is Hunter and his appetite for crack whores, or Joey’s daughter Ashli who showers with Dad, while the brother Jim cashes checks from China. All worthy of yours and the cool kids support no doubt.
We now have an administration dedicated to enriching brutal drug cartels and supporting sex slavery and human trafficking. The open importation of deadly drugs killing tens of thousands of Americans is just icing on the cake.
We now have an administration so compromised by its illicit dealings with China that we are helpless in the face of Chinese aggression toward us, whether it is economic, biological or even military.
We now have an administration which is openly weaponizing federal agencies to go after American citizens. for political crimes, and a Stalinist Star Chamber hearing in one of our branches of government where witnesses are asked questions designed to criminalize free speech, while its ultimate goal is to rig the next presidential election to eliminate its strongest opponent.
We now have an administration which abandoned Americans and our allies while at the same time turning over billions of dollars of lethal weapons to people who want to kill us.
We now have an administration which has been working to kill a major American industry, resulting in us enriching foreign nations as we then have to go to them, on bended knee, to beg them to sell us inferior oil—and openly admitting this is part of a strategy to force us to bend the knee to their electric car agenda.
We now have an administration which nearly crippled our airline industry by forcing employees to inject experimental and dangerous drugs or lose their jobs—-and now those industries are having trouble replacing the people they so foolishly allowed the tyrannical government to run off.
We now have an administration which has depleted our military might so quickly, through its demands that people take these dangerous drugs or leave the military as well as its feminization of our troops that we are, essentially, helpless if attacked.
We now have an administration in which literally not one single person is competent. Not one. Not competent in any way. But we do have a vice president whose only qualification is skin color, and a lifelong Supreme Court justice who is equally qualified, only by the amount of melanin in her skin. All this, with a president who is so cognitively damaged he literally strolls off the podium during a speech, has often referred to some other person as the president, and who is totally unable to fulfill any of the responsibilities of his office.
It has taken the Left less than two years to plunge this nation into such extreme danger. But the Left is still bleating about Trump.
Cut Casper some slack, Cluster. He doesn’t support any of that stuff. Right Casper?
“they are the ones who are most up in arms about Roe. ”
Why? Seriously—what is it about the decision that has them “up in arms”? If it’s that the Court wrongly ruled that the federal government has no authority to invent a “right” or to make a sweeping national law, then we just got more proof they had really bad teaching back in Casper. Evidently you never studied the 10th Amendment.
Yes, adding billions of dollars of debt to an already impoverished nation will be a big win for Democrats. Tell us in what way will this benefit the nation?
How do y’all like those crooked FBI? Evil Pelosi and Schumer raiding President Trump’s Mara-Lago home. Talks of Pelosi and Schumer sending out assassination attempt on the former President.
When are we ever going to get rid of the Democrats? I’m serious there ain’t no better place for them than under the ground.
This should wake everyone up. The current Democrat Party leadership and the career bureaucrats in the DOJ, need to be eliminated. They have long abandoned Americas ideals in favor of globalist authoritarian profits. We will have to fight to regain the American experiment.
I’ve mentioned in the past that I thought most people who love this country have a mental line in the sand beyond which the gloves come off. I suspect for many this raid on Mar-A-Lago is that line. I think the Left is counting on it being the line that causes many on our side to go off the rails and do something stupid. I hope the patience that Conservatives have exhibited continues on for a little while longer. If this raid isn’t the impetus for Conservatives to vote in historical numbers, I don’t know what it.
Coffee & Covid has comprehensive take on the raid.
With the level of political incest in the swamp, is anyone surprised by this?
Wouldn’t this judge want to protect known associate of Epstein, Donald J Trump.?
You need to fact-check yourself.
How so?
Here’s a pretty fair account of the Trump-Epstein relationship. In the 80s and 90s they were good friends and sometimes business rivals. I doubt anyone closely associated with either would have referred to them as “associates.” The friendship ended nearly 2 decades ago.
Fielding, any chance you’re a contributor to the Doonesbury cartoon?
That’s a tired and shabby old meme that was retired years ago when it just couldn’t gain any traction, not even the depth of the fever swamp.
But leave it to fielding to unearth it. Actually, he’s probably carried in around with him, taking out every now and then to admire and fondle it. It’s the kind of thing he seems to like.
I am not a contributor.
This was supposed to be a reply to Spook. Cluster I do contribute some to society, LOL.
I think he might have meant inadvertent contributions to the humor that ridicules Leftists.
In general, the Republicans in Congress have acted a lot like the 99+ % of Trump supporters who strolled into the Capitol—confused, not sure why there are there or what they should do. Hopefully this FBI raid, along with the other abuses of power we have seen from the Left as it takes its premature victory lap, will change that.
My wish would be for a muscular and focused GOP ready to hit the ground running in January of 2023—that is, not just overturning the disastrous spending bills of the Dems but doing some serious work. My choice for first bill presented would be to change our taxation system to the Fair Tax. This would not only make our system much fairer, and give us control over our finances, it would gut the IRS, which would be reduced to a very small number with limited authority. It should have been done years ago, but now it might be imperative—-what happens when you poke the bear.
I would ask for strong investigative committees looking into the J6 committee and the history of the Dem House openly working to rig presidential elections. I would have a strong investigation into the closest we have come in this country to a true insurrection—the fight to disqualify Trump in 2016 and the whole #RESIST movement. I would lop off the top 25% of every federal agency, starting with the FBI and the “intelligence agencies” and make it clear that the agencies would be rebuilt from the bottom up, with every person there having to requalify for employment. I would reopen examination of violations of the Espionage Act, from Hillary to Vindeman, and hold donkey feet to the fire, making it clear that there ARE rules and they WILL be followed.
I would have hearings, and public hearings, not the Stalinist basement hearings so beloved by the Left. I’d kick Schiff and Fang-Fang’s little buddy off the Intelligence Committee, ditto for Dianne Feinstein.
If Trump is president he has nothing to lose by kicking ass and taking names. If it’s DeSantis, he can handle the heat that comes from taking strong positions.
And I would have hearings, big hearings, about the role of the Agenda Media in influencing elections in this country. Their behavior with the Hunter Biden laptop was so disgusting, there should be some consequences for that. They should be linked to investigations into the entire Biden Crime Family, with focus on Biden’s relationship with China and how that might have contributed to thousands of deaths here, as well as his turning over so much of our crucial manufacturing to that country.
Once again I urge you to see if Netflix still has the movie “The Lives Of Others”. Rush highly recommended it in his last weeks, and I have been promoting it for years. Of course, that was before we had such vivid examples of the American Stasi right here in front of us, but it’s still a great movie about life under Leftist rule.
I will have to check that show out. Re: Rush, I have been so wanting to hear his take on all this madness. Rush would be having a field day with all this leftist bullshit. I miss him
I don’t see that movie on Netflix but it’s available on Amazon Prime (for rent or purchase), plus bits & pieces on YouTube, if not the whole movie.
It’s about the East German secret police, the Stasi, bugging the home of a man and his girlfriend because an officer is looking for something he can use to either get rid of the man or blackmail the girlfriend into sleeping with him. The underlying message, though, is the frightening power of a tyrannical government to spy on citizens to try to find something that can then be used against them.
Kinda funny story about it. I saw it at a private screening in Berlin, and later as I was going up to my room I ended up sharing the elevator with a former KGB agent who had participated in the seminar I had been attending. The movie was pretty harsh about the Stasi and the fact it was controlled by the Soviets, so——awkward….
Well, you gotta say SOMETHING so I finally said “That was a very interesting movie”.
“Da, da, very interesting.”
Long silence. Then I said “I thought the acting was very good.”
“Da, da, good acting.”
Followed by THE LONGEST ELEVATOR RIDE IN HIISTORY
(He and his wife had been on the tour of the Stasi prison earlier in the day, where political prisoners had been held and tortured, and she broke down in tears and they had to leave. Guess it sucks to be seen through the lens of other people.)
And not long after posting this I found an encouraging article dealing with many of the topics:
Wilson upended the neutral federal workforce concept established by the Templeton Act of 1888, which replaced the former “to-the-winner-goes-the-spoils” system that had been in force for a century.
Wilson wanted policy experts in the bureaucracy in whom would be vested immense independent powers to regulate American society as they thought proper. That led to an explosion of regulations, including many intended to protect the newly muscular bureaucracy from electoral accountability.
Two of Wilson’s Democratic successors—Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal and Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society—expanded the federal bureaucracy into such an unwieldy, cumbersome, and costly regulatory monster that another Democrat, President Jimmy Carter, made it one of his administration’s chief goals to gain passage of the landmark Civil Service Reform Act (CSRA) of 1978.
It fell to Carter’s successor, Republican Ronald Reagan, however, to implement the CSRA, which included multiple provisions designed to make bureaucrats more accountable for their individual performance and easier to replace poor performers.
“It worked for a few years but was fought throughout by OMB, which moderated CSRA during its legislative journey through Congress and then, afterwards, helped agency experts and allies in Congress to modify CSRA’s reforms,” Donald Devine, the former Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), who managed the CSRA implementation for Reagan, wrote recently.
“Today, we are basically back to the system Carter was elected to change—but worse, as aspects of his reforms are now forbidden by both law and regulation,” Devine continued.
