All Foam, No Beer

Current speculation is that it is Pawlenty as the VP, who wasn’t my first choice, but a good choice nonetheless. He is a two term Governor from a very blue state, will wipe the floor with Biden in the debate, is qualified to be President on day one, and while he is the only “DC outsider” amongst the serious contenders, he does bring a mixed record as Governor of Minnesota. I did have concerns with his initial support of Cap & Trade although he did back away from that position, liberals call it evolving, and I do respect a politician who will admit when they are wrong, but other than that, Pawlenty is pretty solid on every other issue. He did govern conservatively and left the State of Minnesota with a surplus. His free-market position on Health Care is the right position to take and it does depart from that of Romney’s Mass. plan, but keep in mind, the health care plan in Mass. was largely driven by the Democratically controlled legislature in that state. He also has the right position on tax reform, is strong on defense, and has some good ideas on Welfare reform, so all in all, Pawlenty is a conservative I could get behind.

However, my first choice is still Rubio, in that I believe Rubio does represent the future, is very conservative, is extremely articulate, has a certain panache, and would rally an Hispanic base, but he is young and Romney may not feel that he could step into the Presidency if needed on day one. And keep in mind, the Democrats nominated a less experienced Senator in 2008, who did win and as we all know, that didn’t turn out so well, so I will get behind Pawlenty if in fact that is who Romney selects. Besides, Pawlenty did just come out with one of the best lines on Obama that I have heard in a while – all foam, no beer.

Culture Does Matter

From NRO’s The Corner:

During my recent trip to Israel, I had suggested that the choices a society makes about its culture play a role in creating prosperity, and that the significant disparity between Israeli and Palestinian living standards was powerfully influenced by it. In some quarters, that comment became the subject of controversy.

But what exactly accounts for prosperity if not culture? In the case of the United States, it is a particular kind of culture that has made us the greatest economic power in the history of the earth. Many significant features come to mind: our work ethic, our appreciation for education, our willingness to take risks, our commitment to honor and oath, our family orientation, our devotion to a purpose greater than ourselves, our patriotism. But one feature of our culture that propels the American economy stands out above all others: freedom. The American economy is fueled by freedom. Free people and their free enterprises are what drive our economic vitality…

Read the rest of it here.  Romney is completely correct – is the the culture of barbarism which prevents the Palestinians from enjoying a better life.  Give up the terrorism, give up the “death to Israel” nonsense and get rid of the kleptocrats who run the place and the Palestinians will swiftly be as prosperous as the Israelis.  It is up to the Palestinians – they have to decide what kind of life they want to live.  The world waits – you can be sure of it that the United States, alone, would pour untold billions in to the West Bank and Gaza.  Make the West Bank and Gaza a free market enclave like Hong Kong used to be and in 20 years you wouldn’t recognize the place…and you’d have Israelis asking real nice if they can join in (Israel does have a lot of success, but they still over-tax and over-regulate a bit; a leftover from the socialist days of the past).

Things can change.  People can change.  But they have to want to – and as an aside, all you liberals out there who are supporting the current Palestinian regime:  you’re part of the problem.  You’re propping up the very people who ensure endless war, endless oppression and endless poverty for the Palestinian people.

UPDATE:  Yet another reason to vote for Romney – our recovery weakest in all the world since 1970.

Obama Runs a Deficit

No, not just a US deficit – but a personal, campaign deficit:

Amid a heavy barrage of advertising by opposing “super” political groups, President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign spent more than it collected in June. While outraised again by Republican Mitt Romney…

To be sure, at the end of June Obama still had nearly $100 million on hand, but the fact that he’s burning through money faster than he takes it in doesn’t bode well – he’ll needs sacks of cash for the  September-November sprint and right now it appears that Romney will at the very least match him and may end up outspending him (and this is keeping out of the picture the super-PACs working for both sides).  This is undisciplined – this is a campaign which is not running effectively.  The vaunted Obama machine seems to be getting itself in to trouble – but no surprise to me because I never had any respect for Obama’s 2008 effort…he coasted to a win against a man who simply refused to hit hard (Obama also had a huge number of outside factors working in his favor).

But here’s the real kicker – with all this massive advertising and spending more than he took in, Obama didn’t move the electorate even an inch closer to him.  Even the biased, pro-Obama MSM polling still shows him in a bad position:  approval rating under 50%, now less than four months before election day.

Rice for Vice President?

From Drudge:

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, ‘Meet The VP’ — just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for ‘coming weeks’.

Plus:  Massive excitement in the GOP base.  Clearly the smartest person in the room (we’d have to force Rice to speak with rags stuffed in her mouth just so Biden wouldn’t sound like a complete idiot during the VP debate).  Not only cuts the rug under the racism lie from the liberals but as they are sure to try and call her a “Tom” it will actually hurt them massively.

Minus:  Bit of a reminder of Bush who still remains unpopular (though his popularity is greatly rebounding as people take the full measure of his successor).

What do you think?

Remember that “New Tone” BS?

From Politico:

Politicians recognize they give up a degree of privacy when they run for office.

But Democrats are testing the outer limits of that understanding with a practice that raises questions about when campaign tracking becomes something more like stalking.

While most serious campaigns on both sides use campaign trackers — staffers whose job is to record on video every public appearance and statement by an opponent — House Democrats are taking it to another level. They’re now recording video of the homes of GOP congressmen and candidates and posting the raw footage on the Internet for all to see…
This is just plain and simple intimidation – an attempt to scare Republicans.  By videotaping the homes (and, it seems, posting addresses on the internet) Democrats are inviting lunatics to do bad things.  Democrats complained mightily in the wake of the Giffords shooting that the mere use of targets on a map put people at risk…but now Democrats are actually giving the address, and a helpful picture of the place, to anyone on the left who takes seriously the notion that Republicans are evil and must be stopped at all costs.
If this – and the rest of the Democrat hate-mongering – doesn’t stop, then someone is going to get killed.  Depend on it.  Is there anyone on the Democrat side who has a shred of honor left and will try to stop this?

Four More Years of This Economy?

So, what is in the news today?

The unemployment rate for white men and women was unchanged at 7.4 percent, while 184,000 more black American’s went without a job in June, for an unemployment rate of 14.4 percent.

Plunging new orders suggest global recession has arrived.

More workers joined the federal government’s disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation’s jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

Is this what you want?  Seriously?  Liberals, tell us:  will four more years of Obama make this all better?  How?  What will Obama start to do on January 20th, 2013 which will turn this all around?

Will he spend even more money?

Provide even more subsidies for favored “green” companies?

What will he do to make it all better?

If you haven’t got a rock-solid answer and a means of demonstrating how that rock-solid answer will turn this around, then a vote for Obama is a mere vote of hatred…a vote you will give him not because you really think him wise or strong but simply because you hate Republicans so much that you’d rather suffer Obama than have a Republican in office.

UPDATE:  On the other hand, every State which elected a Republican governor in 2010 has seen its unemployment rate drop.   So, California, New York and Illinois, are you regretting your choice?

The Conservative Revolutionary

In his 1910 book What’s Wrong With the World?, G. K. Chesterton pointed out that the mob can never really rebel unless it is conservative – that unless the mob has conserved some vision of an ideal then it isn’t really rebelling but, at most, just going on a mindless riot.  The proof of this is the late “Occupy Wall Street” movement – supposedly a rebellion by the long oppressed mob, but all it really amounted to was a low-grade riot in favor of fastening even more chains upon the people.  The OWS people were seriously calling for even more government – government to save them from the effects of government.   They were fundamentally complaining that their chains weren’t heavy enough and if just one more link were added then they’d be free.

To be sure, the OWS people did attack a target worthy of mob violence – the bankers of Wall Street are, for the most part, a baleful influence on society.  Just not in the manner the OWS understood.  They think the bankers are bad because they are rich when the truth is the bankers are bad because they essentially follow in slavish devotion what the government demands of them.  A real banker is someone who wants to lend and invest as a means of increasing the overall wealth of the economy, thus allowing the banker to have a rake off on the now increased amount of wealth.  The government, though, is not terribly interested in that.  What the government wants is for bankers to buy government bonds so that government can keep growing larger.  And that is just what our bankers primarily do – buy bonds and then flip and twist money around from one account to another,  providing plenty of money for government to spend and plenty of profits for the bankers, but not much in the way of the increased wealth which ordinary people depend on to live their lives.  The difference is this – in the financial panic of 1907 the crash was touched off by a couple of bankers trying to corner copper; in other words they were trying to get hold of an industry which made something useful.  They got greedy and got burned and a massive financial panic ensued, but at least they were trying to control something of actual value.  The financial panic of 2008 was touched off by bankers artificially inflating financial instruments which related to no actually identifiable property…but the use of which greatly helped government to get larger.

We are faced here in 2012 with a crucial issue:  will we revive the American ideal of individual liberty which is based upon faith in God and strong families, or will we opt to turn America socialist with its ideal of personal servitude based upon faith in government and no family, at all?  Remember, we are no longer trying to preserve America we are trying to revive it.  We are, in short, trying to have a revolution which will overturn our current system and replace it with something else.  And because we are trying to revive an ideal we hold in our hearts and minds we must become revolutionaries to do it.  Conservative revolutionaries.

Do keep that in mind.  And remember that Romney is not a revolutionary.  He is a necessity because he is the only person who can eject Obama from office but he does not, at least from is public pronouncements, understand the depth and breadth of change necessary to revive America.  He might see it; the force of circumstances in 2013 will make him go a long way towards it because only a revival of America can prevent utter catastrophe for the United States and the world.  But he is not at this time a revolutionary – and we need a revolution.  Romney must win – but in installing Romney in the White House we must remember that we only took the tiniest of steps towards the necessary revolution.

A revolution in favor of a revived America means a complete ousting not just of Obama from the White House but of all those tens of thousands of un-American statists who inhabit our bloated bureaucracies.  It means curbing the power and influence the un-American statists who control those myriad, tax-free foundations and groups which lobby endlessly for more un-Americanism (think in terms of groups like Planned Parenthood and MoveOn).  It means reforming the judiciary root and branch – criminal and civil and, indeed, the way our federal courts operate on the appellate level (mad about the ObamaCare decision? Then lets have a revolution so that the Courts will do what we command via the Constitution, not what they make up as they go along).  It means calling to account those elements of the popular culture which pollute our society with every manner of egoism, greed, materialism and wickedness and piously claim that our sublime Constitution – that which belongs to us, not them, in our families, churches and local groups – allows them to do so.  A revolution means going after every last bit of the un-American system which has grown like a cancer in our society.

It is become revolutionaries – dedicated, single-minded patriots determined to conquer  – or give it all up.  We can’t compromise with things as they are.  Lies and truth cannot coexist – allow the smallest of the un-American lies to continue and the whole thing is ruined.   Our America lies chained and blinded – leeches are draining her life’s blood and are determined to finish her off for good.  She can still be saved, there is still time – but she can only be saved by entirely getting rid of the things which are killing her.

As an aside, I highly recommend that book by Chesterton.  You can find it here for free.  Though published 102 years ago, all of it is entirely relevant today.  You see, the lies which are killing our America were first floated back then (and were being used – ultimately successfully – to kill England).  Chesterton saw them for what they were and warned precisely where it was heading – and called for a revolution to stop it.

Making an End of the Nauseating “Race Card” and Other Liberal Lies

The latest blatant, disgusting lie from the left is that the attacks on Holder over “Fast and Furious” are the result of a racist, GOP campaign to discredit and remove Holder because he, and he alone, stand between us and our nefarious plot to suppress the vote.  This is not the first such lie to be floated in our political discourse, but we should make it the last.

Let us stand forth, fellow Americans, between now and November 6th and do what needs to be done to restore decency in our public life.  Enough of race-baiters on the left poisoning America.  Enough of all these liberal groups with their tax-free status and revolving door between them and the bureaucracy.   Enough of essentially paying liberals to slander us.

Obama needs to not just be beaten, but crushed – and after he is crushed it is time for us to go after the left with a will and chase them entirely out of the halls of power.  Go after them – investigate them inside and out.  I’m confident that once we start turning over the rocks we’ll find all sorts of disgusting things scattering in the light.  This is not about revenge – this is about cleansing our public life from a force of people who, essentially via taxpayer subsidy, make life miserable for all Americans who won’t bow the knee to liberalism.  For decades now our liberals have lived on the Big Government gravy train – having nothing to do all day long but devise ever higher taxes, ever more regulations – and ever more smear campaigns against anyone who dissents from liberal orthodoxy.  Holder is just a product of this – and those defending him by accusing us of racism are also a product of this liberalism-government complex designed to, come what may, thwart the rule of law and the will of the American people.

If we want to be free – if we want to preserve our constitutional republic – then it isn’t enough to just beat Obama.  Obama and Holder are not the problem – they are just symptoms of the problem.  If it wasn’t Holder running roughshod over law and justice then it would just be some other liberal.  In order to have real victory, we have to defeat the entirety of the left – we must, that is, destroy all the liberal lies because if one of them lives then the others will revive.

Obama Campaign Finds All Sorts of Ways To Avoid Spending Money

There has been a disturbing string of stories involving how Obama has managed to pass the financial burden of his campaign visits to other people.

Taxpayers, to start, have had to foot the bill for his fundraisers when Obama conveniently combines fundraising trips with official White House visits.

Today it was reveal that Obama’s campaign outright refused to cover the costs of a campaign visit to New Hamsphire, leaving the town of Dunham, already suffering in Obama’s economy, to figure out how to pay for everything involved in beefing up security for the visit. Lucky for the city, an anonymous donor came out to bail out the Obama campaign. Though this issue is far from settled, as this raises all sorts of question about in-kind contributions, and such.

A reality of a presidential campaign is that taxpayer funded resources are made available to a sitting president running for reelection. That said, there is a difference between uses those resources, and abusing them.

But telling a town to go screw, forcing them in an already bad economy that has been exasperated by Obama’s tenure to pull together an extra $20,000… that’s pretty low.

Despite Obama’s clever avoidance and outright refusal to pay campaign expenses, his campaign is spending more than it takes in.

Of course, if you are planning a wedding, you can forgo gifts and ask your guests to donate to his campaign instead… he needs it more than you, after all… despite his shifting the burden of his travel and security on the taxpayers and cash-strapped towns, his standings in the polls haven’t exactly improved.

UPDATE, by Mark Noonan:  Seems that Obama is sucking up so much Democrat money (and blowing through it so fast) that our Donks can’t raise enough money to pay for their Convention.

Someone tell me, again, how there are indicators that this will be a close-fought campaign and that the advantage is with Obama …
